The subject line says it all really. How do I post photos on this forum?

Antony - register for an account with a photo-hosting site (I use photobucket). Upload photos to the site as per their instructions. Make sure the photo is resized for use on a website (easy to do - photobucket has a drop-down menu that lets you choose this option).

On the main screen, below a thumbnail of the photo there are four link options:

Email & IM
Direct Link
HTML Code
IMG Code

Click on IMG Code. This will copy the name of the link.

Paste this into the CG post on the forum.

And there you go.

http://imageshack.us doesn't require registration.

Step 1: Go to http://imageshack.us and upload your picture. The fields should look like the picture. I don't recommend entering your email address in the box. I also don't recommend using their resizing feature since you won't have any control over what will happen. Better to upload a picture that's the correct size to start with.

Step 2: Once you've uploaded your picture, scroll down until you find the "Direct link to image" and copy the link provided.

Step 3: Go to the forums and click on the insert image button. Once you've done that, past the link you got in step 2 between the tags.

And you're done. I usually preview the post to see if I've messed anything up. I've probably made some of these pictures too wide but you can't really tell until after you've posted the message. Even if no scroll bars show up in the preview, the may show up in the actual post since other users may run a different resolution to you and I think it's narrower than the preview window even on the same resolution.

And as you can see, the pictures are indeed, too wide. You can appreciate how inconvenient it is if there are multiple pictures and some of them are too wide as in order to scroll sideways, you need to scroll down until you see the scroll bar. Then you can scroll sideways. But then you won't be able to see images nearer the top of the post as you're scrolling sideways.

P.S. Well, I usually don't have my browser window maximised so they don't fit on my browser. If you're running 1280 x anything, they'll fit which I guess is what most people are running anyway. Remember, the preview window is wider than the actual post so if it only just fits in the preview window, it'll be too wide for the actual post.

Pfft. Registering. Why would you register when you could instead, not register.

Pfft. Text-only instructions. Why would you read text when you could instead, view pictures.

But seriously, there are advantages to using a service where you have to register. In my example, if you forgot the image link, you would have to find where you posted the image so you can get the image's link. With a service where you have to register, you can just log in and get the link. I usually just upload the image again.

Thanks for that, as you can tell I've been busy following your advice.

Cudos to you Nick for showing up teacher there.  Wink

With regards to images, taking photos of tin solders is tricky. My very average (poor) efforts testify to this. One thing I'll do in the future is snap my pics from far enough away to ensure that they are in focus, and then resizing/zooming to frame the mini correctly. It is hopeless trying to take a photo from 2' away.

There's a lot of very tricky, philosophical, pedagogical, teachery stuff that went into that post that has clearly not been noticed. Which was of course my plan all along.

I could have posted something long-winded and visual but I chose to go the short route and post simple and to the point. This takes into consideration the age of the learner, their mental capabilities, their technological understanding. ..

So essentially my post was targetted towards an over-the-hill Warhammer player with technological insecurities. Nick's appeared to be aimed at someone studying computer science (a disturbing trend in his posting).

To each his own.

(jokes Antony... much respect to all over-the-hill Warhammer players. Hopefully the younger sexier newer breed of Warhammer enthusiasts don't know you off the pedestal too quickly. Don't want you to break a hip or anything...)

Yeah... that was probably a bit too much. Sorry about that.

I'm a bit tense because I'm trying to avoid heavy metal guitarists and irate blues/roots drummers who are having petty teenage conflicts over a combined gig. Sigh... you just can't please everyone (or anyone sometimes!).

I apologise with reservation, absolutely convinced that you have no problems setting a VCR or adjusting your pacemaker.

You mean the other way around? Not to disrespect Anthony, but I would have thought that a set of instructions with pictures and clear step-by-step directions would have suited a technologicall y inept audience. Whereas someone who was studying computer science, that is, someone that was technologicall y savvy, would be expected to already know how to upload and post pictures on a forum.

In fact, my post wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Because of the nature of our hobby, the need to post pictures of finished or in progress work is relatively common. Thus, I saw Anthony's post as an opportunity to write a set of detailed, step-by-step instructions with pictures on how to accomplish this.

The reason for replying is to give the moderators more work. Well, that is assuming they do remove the pointless discussion.
