Often murmured about, lately seldom seen.
Warmachine & Hordes are back to being fully promoted at the Auckland Cityguard this year.

If you see someone playing, and are interested in the game, then come on over and take a look, ask some questions and get into it. It's not a hard game to get a good understanding of, and any player should be more than happy to give you a run down of the basics as they play – game are fast and fun.

There's already a whole raft of ideas in the works; but before any of that is announced, if there is anything anyone would like to see ... any quick events or ideas players would like to see put in to practice, please speak up and we'll see what the club can do to bring some real metal and claws to your Sunday gaming.

If anyone want a full demo, then they can be run on short notice; and if there's enough interest the club can easily organise a full on demo day – where everyone can get a quick demo before/after their other games that week.

For those that don't know what these games are, the links in the above post will take you to the websites for each game on Privateer Press' webiste (the developer). There you'll be able to find galleries with the miniatures for each faction, the background information on the world and why 'people' are fighting. These are great games which are well supported by the company that puts it out, where every faction gets releases together as the fluff and storyline progresses - with no ArmyBook/Codex-"creep" and models never becoming unusable.

You can also download quickstart rules for the game: WARMACHINE and  HORDES.
Note: these are two separate but completely compatible games - one just features big iron giants and the other giant feral dogs.

I don't want to go on too much, so I'll just say it's a nice, straightforwar d and aggressive game; where army composition, strategy, and gumption are all needed to help ensure victory. If you haven't tried it I really suggest you give it a go.

One feature at club this year is the Cityguard will be running the Wartorn Alliance Leagues.

Quote
The 2012 War-Torn Alliances league gives players a fantastic opportunity to shine in nearly all aspects of the hobby—painting and modelling, faction mastery, and working with a teammate to achieve victory for the greater good. The 2012 War-Torn Alliances league will have four seasons and begins in February.

In 2012, each season will feature faction pairings that represent an uneasy alliance to conquer territory on the map. These tenuous accords will change with each War-Torn Alliances season. League fiction will be centred on these arrangements of convenience. What would happen if elements of the Talion Charter teamed up with Legion of Everblight? Or if Circle Orboros worked with Cryx? Not only will you get to read about these pairings, you’ll get to play them out for yourself on the battlefield.

  • Gnarls: Feb. 6 - March 4
  • Olgunholt: April 16 - May 13
  • Thornwood: June 18 - July 15
  • Under the Thornwood: Sept. 10 - Oct. 7

League Map

The interactive online league map returns in 2012, with factions battling for control in The Gnarls, Olgunholt Forest, and The Thornwood throughout the year.

Season Models

Season models make their return—with a twist. In addition to fielding the league models for your main faction, you’ll have the option to field the allied league models as well. Play a big enough game and you’ll be able to field both allied armies at once!

Upgrades

War-Torn Alliances introduces a new element called Upgrades. These Upgrades are earned after battling opponents during the course of each season, and represent enhancements to your battle-seasoned warjacks and warbeasts. Upgrades are faction specific and will change each season.

League Kits

Each War-Torn Alliances core kit will include 1 scoreboard tracking poster, 1 championship medal and enough participation and commendation patches for 8 players. Reinforcement kits can be purchased to support an additional 4 players per kit.

Commendations

Players will be able to earn commendations for participation, hobby, combat and Alliance play, and the overall winner will be awarded the season medal. Make sure to check the rules for each season to find out the requirements to unlock these achievements.
The first league will be starting in a few weeks, and more details will be up as the come to hand.

These will be the perfect chance for everyone to get out of their garages, homes and isolated playgroups, and get some quality time and games down at the club. Hooray!  Grin
