The Auckland Wargaming Open 2012
14th & 15th of April 2012 (the week after Easter)

Venue: Remuera Commerce Club
27-33 Ohinerau Street, Remuera, Auckland

TO: Robert Power - contact thepower_guy@hotmail.com

Points: 2000pts. No comp.

Format: 6 rounds - 3 per day (note that the number of rounds may be adjusted depending on numbers). We are aiming for 32 players initially and if we shoot past that (which I'm hoping we will) we will be aiming for 64 players (which is also our limit).

Painting: Armies must be painted to a tabletop standard to win any awards or prizes. This means three colours and fully based. We will be using a similar system to OTT, any models which are not fully painted are removed at the end of the game as casualties, which allows for the odd unpainted model for people who have put the effort in (if you run out of time to finish 1-2 guys or leave a model at home etc etc) but punishes people who don't.

Scoring: This tournament will be using the so called NOVA format (after the tournament in the US that first used it). Essentially its two competitions in parallel, the main tournament winner is the one player who goes undefeated (the scenarios used ensure its only one) and the Renaissance Man competition which has equal weighting on wins, painting and sports (that is 33% in each, a true all rounder). Scenarios are structured so that draws are not possible, every scenario has 4+ levels of objectives which are all in play at once so if you tie on the primary you move to the next one down to determine the winner.

Registration for this event is open. To try and avoid issues with random un-referenced payments showing up I will send out bank account details directly after people email me to register. It will also be possible to pay me directly on EA Elites club days if you organise it in advance. Note that the early/late entry fee is determined by when you pay NOT when you register.
Early Registration (closes 19th Feb): $35
Late Registration (closes 1st April): $45
Lists will be due 7th April.

The first draft of the Players pack is now ready to go, including Missions. Hopefully you can access it here https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1wqjq98HbZtPCeEssomDaf7F0VtB18Cd2xHcFmHeLSi0. For some reason the formatting is a bit screwed up, particularly if you have a widescreen, so just email me and I can send it to you if you want a proper copy.

Its also probably worth mentioning that there is a bar on site and that it will be open till 10-11 on Saturday. We are working on getting a discount for all players, although the prices are pretty reasonable anyway.

Please contact me if you have any queries.

Edit: We have added a Fantasy Doubles Event. Expect more details in the next week. Contact Nikola @ figfigfigfig@hotmail.com for details and registration.

Robert

Assuming they are "fin-ished" on time (groan).

Sounds like something I might be into attending as well.

Updated the first post with entry costs.

Also note that we have managed to get access to an additional side room at the venue which won't be needed for the 40k tournament which has space for 5-6 (6' x 4') tables. This space could be used for running a Warmachine or similar smaller scale tournament or demo games. If anyone is interested please get in contact with me asap.

Just re-read the OP and saw the second to last paragraph (the bit about the open bar). Count me in Cheesy. I suspect my opponents will find the going easier and easier as the day progresses.

Define ranked? If you mean will the results be uploaded to RankingsHQ then yes I'll sort that out, otherwise I'm not sure what you mean.

Just a reminder that early entry closes on the 19th, so if you want to make use of the cheaper early entry fee you need to sort out payment asap.

Numbers are looking solid for 40k but we still have heaps of spaces left, so get all your mates to register. We have also added a Fantasy Doubles Event which will be run by Nikola, contact him figfigfigfig@hotmail.com for more details.
