The new models for the VCs certainly look very cool, but have limited myself to 2 maybe 3 armies (depending if I score my stank). But good times ahead for Chris.

Ah those centre piece models are top notch. Anyone gots them some Skellies and Ghouls for a cheap sale.
2 or 3 armies are just not enough Aaron :

Ha Ha, Phil. Its what happens when you collect one army, and tinker with another, they breed and before you know it, you have 2 cough 3 armies.
I wont say how many 40k armies I have then. I haven't checked lately, and I'm too scared to look.

New vamp models aren't really doing it for me. They carry the stink of large "must have" models designed to screw you out of your cash to be competitive. May take a look at the book to see if I can work with what I have, otherwise it's down the road for them.

I'm just trying to figure out just how much green stuff I'll need to fake a vortex of ghosties. Anybody have a spare Corpse Cart I can slap into the middle of it?

All of the new big models for released for last year for all armies are
must have
only from a hobby point of view. With the exception of the Tomb Kings sphinx none are required for a "competitive" build. I think the models are running out of the stores because they are so cool, not because of they are the new "hydra".

Well haven't spent money on a white dwarf in ages, but i'm glad i picked up the latest one with all these new dollies.
There are some awesome closeup shots of the 3 girly vamps sitting on the throne and the detail is bloody amazing. The black knights are also really good too, with some ace looking detail.
Glad i don't need to much to update my army

Would have to agree with The Master(loving the new username by the way) Neither Orcs and Goblins or Ogres really need their big gribblies, but arn't they nice and shiney. It will be interesting to see if the VCs big stuff follows the same route.
I have to say however it seems like the new books have a list of requirements, Big creature, monstrous infantry, and new kits over reeplacing old ones.

Just checked out the New Coven Throne thingie for Vamps. With a 4+ ward and Spectral steeds M8, can we all say better than hydra and omg Vamp Lord on a Alter hic.
I heard that the New High Elf book has canons as a 2 for 1 choice ...

Does it cost a mere 175pts, have a high strength breath weapon and Hatred?
Or is it 250pts+ and a stupid place to put your general?
It does look a lot prettier than a Hydra though, I'll give you that
Lots of transport pain involved with that model.

Yeah but losing the guy on the war alter doesn't force your whole army to take a leadership test.
Nor does the Alter crumble.
I think you will possibly see it by those who build there list around it(or just love the model). Without the rest of the book it's hard to say.
Cannons/ Rocks will still love it. 4+ Ward or no 4+ Ward. ...
+ its only T5 which is sooo much worse than T6 for some reason.

What about the mortis engine with +2 to cast on vamp lore and spell/effect that causes wounds on everything nearby that you dont get to dispel, and boosts/grants regen to all sorts. Cant forget the reroll D6 for winds of magic that will be manditory now, coupled with cheap casters and cheap arcane magic items.
Balanced 8th edition VC? Yeah right! One only needs to compare with TK to see who got the short end of the stick...

the vargulfs are exceptionally awesome looking figs. that giant monstrosity thingy coven throne is just too busy a model for me and kinda distracting in all the details... and yeh Big D, u are so right. it just stinks of the "we gotta stick a big model in every book now"... but at least its cheaper than the failcast bloodknights!
