I'm just in talks with my engraver to make sure that he can spell Chinese last names. I hear that one syllables is the bane of engravers and they spell it wrong continuum. Great to see you or your disciple putting the cups up 2012, I really enjoyed the top notch company of the Wargaming throng over the weekend and it's an experience not to be missed.

Love my Comments on the FOB website just because i dont go and play at welly i am somehow a no one.

"Matthew Robinson: No disrespect to Matthew, but I have no idea who he is. I've never played against him, and I've never heard anyone talk about having played against him. I don't actually understand his inclusion, as he's ranked 42nd, and has a season high of 19th at battlecry with his dark angels. *shrug* - it will be an interesting weekend for Matthew."

About right a Lez.

I got asked on the weekend no disrespect but why did you get invited to masters.

I told Phil next time i get an invite to masters he can put it where the sun don’t shine. Good games and fun weekend but some comments from some people just can really put you of going to tournaments.

I fully don’t promote that sort of talk when i am running my tournaments. This is meant to be a friendly community!

Apologies that you took offence where clearly none was intended (and as much was directly said so).

I was doing an introduction on each of the players, and couldn't do an introduction because I had never met or heard of you, or anyone who had played against you.

The reason why I mentioned that I did not understand your inclusion, was not actually a dig at you, it's because I actually _didn't_ understand your inclusion, which is because Phil was not clear in any way shape or form about how he was doing the invites, where as in the past when the masters have been run there has always been crystal clear transparency - and I had upset people asking me if I knew why they were passed over despite placing high enough to get an invite, they had been working hard all year attending tournaments doing their best trying to earn a spot.

I was going to leave this and not reply, but I genuinely do not want to have caused you any hurt feelings or offence, as I seriously meant none at all. I just wasn't able to provide any information as I haven't had the opportunity to build the strong rapport I have with every other member of the field.

How did your weekend go? Was it interesting? We didn’t get a chance to meet still, but your eldar army looked fantastic

Hey Matt

I think it was me that asked that, and, similar to Charlie I was not intending to cause any offence just trying to get an idea around the decision process that was used to give out the wildcard entries.

Sorry if I caused offence or put you off attending in any way, it was certainly not my intent.

The eldar were looking awesome, you have done a great job on them,

Hope to see you at battle cry!!

Thanks for those comment from you both that does make me feel a bit more at ease. I am sure a simple email to Phil could i cleared things up at the time. I class myself as quite we known around Auckland, i know i don't attend as many tournaments as i would like but family commitments get in the way and i find it hard to get out of Auckland. For those who do know me know that i build and paint a new armys yearly and due to that i suffer at tournaments due to limited play testing.

I got my invite due to a few things helping out with cityguard for meany meany years, and Phil being aware that i am a good player and just have limited time to attend the tournaments to get me up the ranks. Both 2009 and 2010 where bad year for my gaming wise. My bug army did not quite cut it due to the theme i took and the same with my deathwing this year. If you look at all my armys i have made i build to theme not to wining, not saying i don't try and make the best list possible with what i got.

Most people will recall my armys not my face at tournaments i try and not brag. I am sure you would recall the Blood angel deathwing army from battlecry this year. But for 2012 i am enjoying the Eldar and loving how they play, I was keen to go to masters not to win as i knew that was a very slim chance but to play test for 2012 and it worked. From the weekend i have found key flaws that have already been fixed and ready for battlecry 2012. That all thanks to the people at masters what is a better way to test an army than to test it with the best of the best.

If you talk with who i played i hope there comments are good and that i put up a good fight, i did make some big mistake that cost me at least two wins.

Hey Matt,

You are fully deserving of a spot at the Masters as you did as much during the year for the hobby as anyone that was there on the weekend. I am sure you enjoyed your games and I just have to say some wargamers have very little idea the impact of some miss placed words.

Cheers,
Phil.

For those who would ask for clarification I have not had an email from you to address the fact. Perhaps directly asking a question would have been the best course of action. To clear up any misinformation idle gossip and here-say I'll provide the information which was emailed to you via multiple emails and was available on the Internet for all to view.

Quote from my Blog which featured the Masters 2011 - http://elvenglades.blogspot.com

"...The requirements are the same and the top 10 ranked players in the country will gain automatic entries into the competition along with the previous years winners. Due to an ever increasing demand for the dollar in maintaining a quality event the field has been increased to 16 players in each of the Warhammer tournaments and FoW remains at a 14 man tournament."

1. Emails three months before the Masters event were sent to Players all the way down to ranking 25 in NZ rankings. Included in this was potential players who could from past results seemed like a possibility if they performed well in the remaining tournaments in the rankings year to also course up the rankings. It was stated clearly that if no return email was received by a period of a week you would be struck off the mailing list, this was repeated two days before the cutoff of the week's notice. Those that did not reply to the two emails was struck off the list of potential qualifiers.

2. Initially the field was set at 14 which would include the reigning Masters Winner and three Wildcards. The field was fleshed out to 16 to cover the cost of the venue and running costs involved with the tournament. Wildcards were the TO's discretion and they included Tournament organisers around the country and Icon holders for their respective armies.

Nb: Selection for Flames of War had another system and was decided by the FOW Umpire and the National ranking representative .

For those that feel they were hard done by not getting into the Masters Then you did not place in the top ten so therefore were not automatic entries. For those that seeked clarification from me via email, I have already returned the same information and I view it as rectified. I don't blame you for seeking comfort but only good results from the upcoming tournaments will gain you entry into next years masters.

My view: Instead of creating an idle gossip uproar perhaps a better way would be to seek information and be more informed.

Hi guys,

I am the rankinghq person for NZ Flames of War.

The system that the FoW umpire used was the top 12 and then the top 2 south islanders.  Mainly because of the paucity of south island events.  There are roughly 150 "names" on the NZ FoW ranking list.

I did some number crunching for Steve some months ago and worked out a likely top 30 Northerners, and top 10 Southerners.  And then people were asked to indicate if they were available for the weekend.

I travelled to Conquest (Christchurch) on the last weekend of October, and when I checked with the then remaining 5 South Islanders (who were all playing at Conquest) on their availability, all of them indicated that they were unable to travel to Auckland for Masters.  As it is, the top 2 two of them played, and finished 1st and 2nd, at a FoW event at the Hutt Club held at the same time as the Masters.

The FoW Masters ended up with:
1 from Battlefront
1 from Tauranga
1 from the Hutt
1 from Shannon (Horowhenua is home but he works at parliament)
3 from wider Auckland
6 from Hamilton (all Immortals)

On another note I issued all of the 2012 Tournament dates to people at the Masters and have sent it round the country earlier today by e-mail.  The e-mails went to Tournament Organisers and the persons who fill roles in the various clubs round the country.

All the best for your gaming in 2012.

Regards,
Rob

Looking at the FoB posts, it wasn't just you that got your toes stepped on Laz, looks like the intention of the messages were lost in translation over the internet.

Congratulation s to Dave on coming third! Always very modest about his gaming skill, good stuff Smiley

none of the south islanders could be bothered coming up to the marseters for fow (way to go poochie on winning bedecon!) as they all would rather have gone to bedecon in welly.

u did fine matt. i spent my weekend laughing at tristans txts as his daemons kept getting butt #$%^!
... i told him his list wouldnt cope with the builds i assumed would be there! poor bugger. good experience for u and him tho.

yeah, i aint been to welly in years for a torny. not fussed really. rather stay close to my kids. but saying that if i had the chance id show up down there and abuse people with as much skill as i do up here. mind u, when u only play a max of 2 torneys in flames and 40k a year instead of 7 or 8... there aint much chance of me troubling the top 50! heh heh.

just a question though guys... how many players in the masters have won a best sports award in a GT?
(i only got two at 40k and two in fow...)
anyone got the stats?

yours in stirring,
daemion.

Clarification that NZ Masters invites will be determined on the results in individual competition.
