Currently Warmachine hasn't been terribly present at Cityguard ... and it is very very rarely played at Vagabonds.

Where abouts are you based? There's quite a number of people who game together in little home-clubs during the week.

Also, give us an idea of what faction/caster you play, and how many points you are gonna have together.  Do you visit vagabonds takapuna, or vagabonds in the city?

You'll get good at it quick and enjoy the game more if you find a few more experienced players to have a jam with.  If you've got the 2 player starter set khador with pSorcha, 5x Manowars, destroyer and juggernaut - some good additions are a war dog, winterguard + kovnik josef gregorovich, and maybe the great bears.

I think both pVlad and eVlad can make do with those basic models as well.  If you like sorcha, definately try her epic counterpart, eSorcha.

I noticed the lack of Warmahordes at citygaurd also, is this due to many playing in smaller garage groups or different areas? As the attendance for Equinox would suggest a thriving community of players in the Auckland region, even though some players may be from out of the city.

The fact that I would be unsure of regular games is a worry I have when looking into new games.

Roughly half of the Equinox field is travelling players from the huge community fostered around the noticeboard style blog thrallblacks.b logspot.com of which a most of the auckland locals are becoming active participants. Check out the "Cryx Noob" series of posts from Auckland old boy Dave Stent as he delves into the mysteries of Warmahordes or tune in to Thrallblacks Radio our NZ centric and Auckland based podcast.

In Auckland there is a strong garage gaming culture and and pseudo clubs like the Dojo I personally play at are quite common. If you are an Auckland local send an email to thrallblacks@gmail.com and I'll attempt to hook you up with the gamiing group or gamers closest to you.

Auckland City Guard is the biggest Wargaming club in NZ.

If you want to participate and expand the community most wargamers meet at a club.

We are trying to foster a bigger Warmachine attendance at Auckland City Guard and will continue to offer the games system at our conventions.

Please get a hold of me or our Warmachine representative at Auckland City Guard if you would like to pursue the hobby further, we'll welcome you into the fold:)

Regards,

The President of the Auckland City Guard.

...
Don't get too far ahead of yourself, the majority of Auckland gamers have no presence on the Thrallblacks; and the site mostly caters to the Wellington and Hamilton scenes along with your small part of the Auckland Scene. But that's not to say it's not a good repository for events in those cities, nor that Dave's posts aren't awesome.

EDIT: for the sake of Chris, the first sentence above is in reference to the comments "most of the auckland locals are becoming active participants (of the Thrallblacks community)" and "Thrallblacks Radio our NZ centric and Auckland based podcast"; and I don't think that sentence is unfair in its clarification.

@Placator&Sleepyface: You can expect to see much, much more Warmachine goings on at Cityguard in this coming year. Wink

Not interested in a beef mate but I didn't say presence I said participate in the community.

Out of the 20 Aucklanders registered for Equinox 3 are new players who I hope will have an awesome time and get involved with the community and 13 out of the remaining 17 are great participants already.

It means I'm not going to argue semantics, but I did not say what you say I said.

Regardless, Thrallblacks has grown an awesome community that ever growing tournament numbers and community involvement show is only getting bigger and more awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing as much of the gang as could fit at Equinox.

Expect to see Privateer Leagues and organised mini tournaments on each Sunday next year at City Guard.

I'll let the Auckland City Guard Warmachine rep "Hausdorff space" on forums "Hadyn Cooper" to post the details soon.

There's a group of about eight people that regularly attend garage gaming over on the dominion road area - none of those attend any clubs and rarely make it to tournament events these days, I somewhat feel as though that is partly what constitutes that sentiment a significant portion of auckland warmahordes activity is not associated with cityguard.  It's also noteworthy that two of the most prominent and successful players of the game (james and ian) aren't active as much as they used to be, james being in AUS and Ian being more committed to family affairs.

But despite that, we're making efforts to get those guys more active and involved and unify things a little more.  We're talking about people with a fairly casual approach to wargaming, and who are content to stick to what is already working for them, and for whom the cost of travelling & club/tournament fees is perhaps more significant than for the rest of us.

In my own opinion, the thrallblacks community is definately picking up speed, and it's great that equinox has a good turnout for warmahordes.  I've been offering my own encouragement to those sitting on the fence about whether to attend such events, but rome wasn't conquered in a day.  I'm glad for the progress with the scene so far.

Those guys still attend tournaments, they just don't have all that much interest in the 35pt two day events that some people seem to champion, due for a mix of (what they consider to be) uninspiring game size, cost (event+travel) and time (they have better things to do than spend a whole weekend on the previous two issues); and can take a bit of convincing or encouragement to attend.

It took about 5 minutes to get them signed up for Equinox, which this year replaced their annual 100pt event (so one could understand that some of them might be reluctant to support it). They have also had some bad gaming/tournament experiences in the past ... which combined with their weekend time restraints (the dominant reason) may have led them to originally forgo Cityguard as a common venue.

As long as they're provided with events that will be of interest to them, and they can make it, then I'm sure they be coming along.

Great to hear that the greater Auckland warmahordes boys are getting together.

All the events we are organising at Auckland City Guard will be supported by Privateet press. I'm just in midst of organising it with their Club and promotions manager. The events we are planning at Cityguard will be minimal cost (~$3 every sunday or less) To come join in and play. As I've said Hadyn or I will announce it once everything is solid. Should get you guys to come outta your gaming garages and mix with all the other locals. Yeah I know its cool aye!

It will be great to see warmahordes at city gaurd. Encouraging other systems and players can only help the community as a whole.
Looking forward to what you guys have planned in the new year and be keen to participate. I think Equinox is going to be a cracking event max numbers and 4 different game systems. Cudos to all those pushing the scene and encouraging gamers to get involved.
