Hi all, as some of you know I am working on updating my Stargate themed army for the new Necron codex. As I don't actually use Necron figs in the army at all I'm having some issues coming up with equivalents that I could use for units whilst keeping in theme.

I've found workarounds for the Ghost Arks (scratch building is proceeding apace), but am struggling to come up with an idea for Tomb Spyders. At present I am using Tyranid Rippers as scarabs to represent Goa'uld larvae, but need to think of a big based fig that could feasibly create my swarms.

One option in my old army was to use a Sarophagus with 2 or 3 bodyguards on a large base (swarms are stored in the sarcophagus, bodyguard do the fighting). Another option would involve replacing my swarms with scarabs or something which look like Replicators. I'm reluctant to do that though as it means undoing some of the work I've already done.

So what do you guys think? Some knowledge of Stargate would obviously help me out here :-)

Thanks mate. One or 2 of what, though? That's the problem, coming up with a direction to go in. I'm open to suggestions though. Do you think a small Replicator faction in the Goa'uld force would look Ok? I'm thinking it might be the easiest option.

Ooh, just remembered this from the old series: Goa'uld Queen

Sure they're supposed to be really rare, but it seems like the best option. Now, any ideas of minis that might fit the bill? They'd need to be roughly Tomb Spyder sized.

Just found these. On big bases they'll be perfect, I reckon!

Sweet, thanks Laz. I may just do that. I think I'd probably need about 60 of the little buggers though, would that be too many? I'll reimburse you for materials, obviously.

Pukeko, would you mind giving me a height measurement of the snake? I've ordered a batch of 8 pretty cheap on ebay so that should be all my needs taken care of but I want to make sure I build up the base so it's roughly the same height as a real Tomb Spyder.

On that note, does anyone have a real Tomb Spyder they could measure up for me? Pretty please?

Sweet, thanks. Will have to get sculpting!

In the meantime here are some WIP shots of my Ghost Ark scratchbuild.

Stargate Necrons

I did my best to match the scale from photos of the Ghost Ark online but I don't know if I was successful yet. It's about 21cm x 11cm, so I think it's pretty close. I'll be adding more details in the next week or 2, starting with a stargate in the front section and some guns in the side arrays. Also have some shields coming from Crocodile Games with Egyptian symbols which I'll probably put on the top half of the rear temple section. I'll also put an Eye of Horus symbol on the back. The Sarcophagus is how the units get to regenerate.

Basically I wanted to match the idea of the Monolith, ie an Egyptian style building that happens to fly. I'm pretty happy with the results so far, just need to make a few more once this is done.

Cool, thanks. On a big scenic base it should be about the right size (if not a little taller than Tomb Spyders).
