Fluffycon Summary

As part of Battlecry we’re very pleased to announce summary details for Fluffycon, WHFB tourney, 18-19 February.

The full pack for this will be available in a few weeks time – I’ll update the thread accordingly.

Battlecry are currently accepting registrations via their website. They have an awesome venue again at the ASB Stadium in Kohimarama. We have locked in a max of 20 tables, so this will be first come, best dressed. Registration costs are very reasonable: $25 is the early bird cost if you register by 15 November. The organizers are working very hard to produce a similarly large event to previous years and talking to all sorts of gaming connected companies and clubs about being involved. It promises to be a fantastic tournament.

An ideal event if you’re looking to try out a tourney for the first time or you’re an experienced gamer wanting a different sort of a tactical challenge. We have 20 tables available on a first come, first best dressed basis. If this is one of your first events, you will need to have your army completely painted to a basic standard. This means at least a couple of basecoats and finished bases! Other than that with its emphasis on fluffier, less hardcore builds it’s a great tourney to get a good feel for the game and enjoy two days of fun and relaxed gaming.

Glen Tibbles and I will be the TO’s for the event. Here are the headline details:

2000 points.
6 rounds. Scenarios, mysterious terrain.
60% Battle, 10% Sports, 10% Painting, 20% Fluffycomp.
No special characters, allies, storm of chaos or other weird stuff.
Chaos Doofs, DoW are fine.
Core must be at least 700 points.
No lord choices, no double rares.
Maximum of 100 points to spend on magic items and anything similar (marks, abilities, powers, demonic gifts etc). Does include magic level upgrades from L1 to L2, doesn’t include BSB upgrade.
There will be modified ETC hard caps and army specific restrictions set out in the full pack.
Sports – 5 point scale, peer scored with some checklists for additional (non scoring) feedback on how you felt the game went.
Painting – armies must be painted to a minimum ‘3 basecoats and bases finished’ standard. We will be enforcing this. You’ll get 75% of the painting points if you’ve gotten your army finished to a basic tabletop standard. There will be a separate player vote to determine best painted.
Fluffycomp – peer scored (like sports) at the end of each game against some simple guidelines. TO’s will add a score each and we’ll then drop high / low. We will use the TO’s initial scores to seed the first round draw. And we’ll add the cumulative fluffycomp scores to the battle points to work out the swiss chess draw.

While you can enter with a list that complies with the hard caps you run the risk of your peers and TO’s scoring your fluffycomp accordingly. Fluffycon has always been about taking a list that isn’t ‘optimal’ for a conventional tournament and using some of the less common options in the list. Players are encouraged to really get into this mindset and then enjoy the different tactical challenges on the tabletop – but battle is still set at 60% to encourage some good competitive gaming.

Feel free to email me at reid.pittams@aderant.com with questions in the meantime. We’ll update this thread with further info such as FAQ’s and sample lists going up in the coming weeks.

Cheers
Reid.

Awesome! Looking forward to playing in this next year - thanks to you both for picking up the TO responsibiliti es Cheesy

Have "booked" the use of an Ogre Kingdoms army for FluffyCon - hopefully they're still able to be as fluffy as they once were Wink

Might have overlooked this... but are grudges allowed? I think I still owe Josh for the kicking he gave me at the first Tin Soldier tournament all those years ago.

Good stuff guys, glad to see you running it.
At first glance I really like the restrictions in the pack.

At home; I play Dark Elves, Empire and Warriors of Chaos for the most part. However if I'm borrowing an army, I'm happy to literally play with anything. Part of this whole travelling thing is to get new experiences and stuff, so it kind of fits in anyway.

Dave - per Skellie's post - grudges are fine.
Richard - I'm very keen to see the new Chaos Doof list used. I'd ask that you submit your list well in advance and be very 'considered' in what you take as I don't think its practical to figure out any army specific restrictions for them. I'm a 'big hat' fan - so anything that helps make CD's more mainstream is a plus in my book. Happy to exchange emails with you once you've got the book to see sense we can make of it.

with flights to pombgolia to pay for i think i may have to unleash the twink and knock the chaos off the name and use them as regular dwarfs. i dont think that santa will come for a visit till easter  Sad

i have given it a bit of thought so watch out for the lammocopter and the mage lord who looks like a runepriest with my rock unit filler as an anvil of doom

Hi all,

Sorry for the delays, the player pack is up on the Battlecry website....

http://www.battlecry.co.nz/events/wargaming/warhammer-fantasy-fluffycon

We have circa 8 confirmed entries at the moment with a number more pending as I understand it. I've extended the current registration cost of $35 through to the list cutoff date of 10 February to help people with time to register. Anything we get in the last week will be subject to keeping even numbers in the field and the cost will go to $40 - so no guarantees after the 10th.

Update on the VC's... Got a chance to read my book over the weekend, didn't realise it was getting released this far out from the tourney. Very happy with it so no issues with people using it at the tourney. I couldn't see anything obviously broken so I'm not seeing any need for army specific restrictions. I think its pretty clear what are likely to be the harder / softer options if you're thinking about your fluffycomp score. My only suggestion would be don't go nuts on etherials and please, get your list in well in advance so Skelly and I can take a look at it.

Haven't had any other questions on the pack since it was published but will put up an FAQ if needed.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

There will undoubtedly be a few options for you to choose from. Do you have a preference? Maybe if you can narrow the field a bit we can do some digging and come up with a list of figures you can work on a list for.

If you haven't got the time / inclination and just want us to roll up on the day something sorted for you, we can make that happen as well!

LMK.

Well beggars can't be choosers and all that. I'm happy to play with anything.

If I have a choice, I'd like to give wood elves a go.

No worries, let me see if we can make woodies work - will be back to you in due course....

Also, while we're at it, your reputation has proceeded you and one of the guys coming from Wellington is keen to give you a game in the first round - are you ok locking in a 'grudge' for your first game?

His name's Ray. Feel free to trash talk him.....

You'll be pleased to know he spent some years in Old Blighty and has a fondness for a cleansing ale, so a few pints on the outcome sounds like the way to go.

Feel free to post your potential list here so that all us poor colonials can see what dasrtardly force you're thinking of crushing us with.....  Wink

Nik in particular (check his sig) is probably really keen to see how a master gets it done. Sorry Nik, had to be said....  Smiley

There's gotta be someone in the world who knows how to get Wood Elves to work properly, happy to learn from a master.
4th place at FluffyCon is my spot, happy enough if I could achieve it yet again this year... although this year I've decided to go for the assured 5/5 for comp Tongue

I think that there should be ales all round, regardless of game outcome. In fact there's not a whole lot of point waiting for an outcome and ales can proceed any game resolution. I look forward to meeting and playing Ray.

Skelator, can you manager something along the following lines:

30 glade guard, two command groups.
24 to 30 dryads
2x 5 wild riders ( just musicians)
5 to 10 wardancers
4 treekin
Treeman
5 waywatchers
1 eagle
1 BSB
1 wardancer hero

I've got a few points to jig around, but that would cover all eventualities

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Skelator,

I've submitted my list to Reid. Once I know that it's not illegal, I'll let you know exactly what I need, but your collection easily covers it.

Let me know what sort of beer you like.
