The Ogre Journey
«
on:
October 12, 2011, 08:01:41 PM »
I have decided to compete in OZ with Ogres extensively in 2012.
In order to speed up the progress, I went on ebay and bought myself a 3000 points pro painted ogre army. The army deleted almost 1K off my bank account but I was very happy with the models. Firstly they are painted to well above table top standard, secondly the army does not contain any "failcast" models.
The army consists:
tyrant
2 butchers/slaughter masters
brusier bsb
hunter
12 bulls (3 not painted)
10 ironguts (3 not painted)
25 Gnoblars
8 leadbelchers (4 not painted)
1 gorger
5 maneaters (1 not painted)
3 monkeys
1 giant
and a bunch of bits of pieces
Basically it is a 7th edition army and requires lots of work to make it Competitive in 8th edition. Therefore my first expansion is to add all the new "toys".
From a new source, I got myself some new ogre models for a insanely good price:
6 Mournfangs
2 Ironblasters/ Scraplaunchers
2 Thundertusk/Stonehorn
all for $270 AUD (still not as good as maelstrom games though
)
With these add on, I should have close to 4500pts to play around with and should be able to build a variety of army lists.
During mid November, there is "Thunderstomp 2011" a 1600 points 2 days tournament at 150km north of Sydney. I think it would be the perfect opportunity for me to try out my new ogres.
"thunderstomp" runs by the same group that ran "castle assault", so it still uses the f**king rubbish panel comp, allows hero special characters combines a few rule restrictions and modification.
From the experience I had at "castle assault", comp did totally nothing so I decided to stuff it and build the hardest ogre list with the models I think I can get painted in time.
Depend on if my expansion would arrive in time:
My 1600 list:
Slaughtermaste
r w/ crown of command, armor of destiny, ironfist, sword of striking
Brusier BSB w/ HA, ToP, ironcursed icon, GW
12 bulls FC, ironfists
5 mournfangs, FC, dragonhide banner
dog
dog
dog
ironblaster

Bring on the fatties. Good luck Simon for the year of the Ogre. Post some pics when you get the army finished with all the new toys.
BTW Can a Slaughtermaste
r wear magic armour?
For 1600pts you're going to absolutely ruin some peoples hobby hehehehe enjoy

Funny what a new Army Book does, only a few months ago most people would have called you a mug for fielding a O.K army, now they are the shizzle. I always thought they are awesome and now are definately one of the best looking armies would have taken them if I hadn't started with Daemons
Look forward to see pix of your army Simon.

Impressive army Simon, certainly a sweet score at that price. Especially with all those mail order figs, damn I should have bought more in the UK.

If you get the big miscast, your ward save is not going to help you, in all other situations the slaughetrnmast
er regains wounds with every spell cast, so even if you miscast when on one wound, you will regain a second wound before the miscast is resolved
Nice work. I like the hunter.

so much for my ogre journey.
Marcelo just posted in wargamerau, the Battle Pilgrims had decided not to run Dogcon (end of Jan) and The Pilgrimage (mid Aug) next year.
thats 2 of the biggest fantasy events gone.
Can-con is still going but the player pack is shocking (absolutely Piece of Sh*t)
what is going on in OZ??

after 3 weeks of waiting, I finally received my parcel from the US.
It was a bloody long wait but I was very happy to get
2 thundertusks/ stonehorns
6 mournfangs
2 iron blasters
for $270 AUD.
Just when I was browsing through the net today and was looking for some "alternative" models to represent my "sniper" ogre maneaters.
I came across these!
ogre pirates by TITAN FORGE!
these models are fantastic! and furthermore, TITAN-FORGE are doing a speical mega ogre deal
a ogre pirate captain
a pirate BSB
a pirate Voodoo mage
6 ogre pirates
all for 97 pounds (include shipping)
I just cannot resist it and bought a set myself.
However it is limited to only
50 sets
so get it while it is still available!!

I was working like a cow last year, and finally I got a few days off during Xmas.
So I took out the box of models which I left aside since Nov and started to add some new toys to my Ogre.
assembled 6 Mournfangs, a thundertusk, 2 ironblasters and some ogre priates.

Simon that army looks rad! I Think I might invest in an army to own, doubt if I get the time to actually play it though.
Nicon is in June, check the Events calendar. Register early and you can get a cool as NZ tournament under your belt. See if you can convince some Aussies to come too so we can smash em bro

I didn't think there were any good Aussie players left. We've been smashing them in ETC. I hope you reminded them of that
They love a bit of sledging do the Aussies, as you do you. If you want a tough game come back to NZ.

Just finished Dogcon.
I came 2nd overall.
I should come 1st, but one of my opponent took a point off my sport and his reason was "I didn't have a good game because you smashed me
."
anyway, 4th in thunderstomp, 4th/3rd in Cancon, 2nd in DogCon. Clash of the titans in 2 weeks time, if I can get in top 5 I can guarantee a spot in 2012 OZ masters and maybe a place in ATC NSW team.

Well done Simon. Given the number of Ogres playing at Dogcon, your result can't be attributed to your army alone.
It must be rough dropping a position due to a sports hit. But I keep telling you, doing your
boogie woogie
victory dance when you get a 20-0 is not going to go down well with everyone

true, true. next time I will do my victory dance AFTER he sent the score sheet!
The Dogcon TO added up the battle score wrongly so I actually came equal 1st because I have the same final score as the person who came second. (I did bash his daemon in round 4
)
I wanted to make some really cool battle reports with battle chronicle "
http://battlechronicler.com/
". it is an awesome and free battle report maker, but it really takes a lot of effort... so maybe next time..
G1 VS high elf.
level 4 shadow mage
level 2 metal mage, steal PD.
BSB prince
horde spearmen
horde seaguards
horde white lions
horde swordmaster with banner of sorcery
horde Pheonix guard
eagle
eagle
So my ogres were going to get pitted, my mournfangs were going to get MM to death and my death star was going to get winrazered.
I basically threw all my DD to stop Pit of shade every magic phrase and fired my cannons at his level 4 every turn. By turn 3 his level 4 mage finally failed his look out sir and died then my ogres went straight forward and destroy everything in their path.
By turn 6 he had his phoenix guard, sea guards, BSB and level 2 mage left which were hiding behind a hill.
17-3 WIN.
G2 VS ogre
a guy who work for GW. His list:
slaughtermaste
r + toys
tyrant + toys
BSB bruiser
horde ogres
horde iron guts
horde maneater with poison and snipers.
No idea what he was doing, he didn't move anything more than 3 inches from his deployment zone. His tyrant got assassinated by some mournfang and maneaters.
I killed 12 ironguts with my flaming sworded, death star of doom on their charge, paniced his unit of 14 ogres, slaughtermaste
r and butcher off the board.
Then he spent his last 2 turns hiding his maneaters behind a tower, by turn 6 he had 1 maneater left.
(his unit of maneaters is like 600 points)
18-2 WIN
After the game, he decided to give me a sport hit, his reason was "I didn't have a good game"
G3 VS Dwarf Akhter Khan.
His list:
anvil, scroll, spell eater.
bsb thane
rune smith with Rochallenge
horde of crossbow dwarves
horde of scouting crossbow/GW dwarf
20 miners
20 miners
cannon with all toys
cannon with all toys + flaming
grudge thrower with all toys
grudge thrower with all toys + flaming
Some highlights:
my ironblasters hit his cannons 6 times and I rolled 6 ones to wound.
His cannons killed my mournfangs, lots of ogres and ironblasters.
My 12 wide iron guts line reached his gunline and destroyed everything they touched.
anvil of doom and 1 cannon left by turn 6.
17-3 Win
