Qualifiers who have cemented their places for Masters even with a couple of events to play still for the rankings year have received their invites.
This Year sees a even spread of contestant from all the main regions in New Zealand so far. Something that will add to the intrigue of the event. Will 40K be once again dominated by Wellington savey? Will another WFB trophy travel to talented Christchurch. We all will know mid December when some of the best players in the country collide.

A reminder that Lists are due 25th of November, pls return email to the address of your invites. Late lists will incur penalties.

Please also note that the pack requires a painted army to be fielded and this is to be to a table top standard. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Dinner venue has not been cemented as we have a unprecedented number attending this year which currently stands at above 45. Partners are welcome but please pay the extra $25 to confirm their places as I need to make sure we have the seating.

Since it's such a good turnout we probably will hold a secret Santa xmas pressies on the night. I'll update everyone as soon as I get the confirm that the venue can take us all.

Really well checked list guys shame about the shambles in formatting. This has stopped me from transferring it quickly to the blog. You guys should really stick to word pad if you have so much trouble with Excel, pdf etc. I'll sure to remember this next time i ask for submit lists Wink Lists should be added to the blog in the next 10mins.

Hi Phil,

Can you please indicate what Lore people have chosen where it has not been included on the list with their Mages.

I didn't include mine as it was self-explanatory but will now:

Grey Seer - Ruin/Plague
Warlock Engineer - Ruin
Plague Priest - Plague

Thanks

Had a mare transferring some of the lists and don't have time today. Would quickly ask all competitors to oblige and put their lores down in this thread if they can, thanks.

Obviously a few of them aren't reading this thread.

Should only take a couple of minutes.

Phil,

There has been a thread on The Warhammer Forum over the past week regarding the +1 for 1st turn roll. It appears that unlike 7th that there is no rule that excludes Scouts from the Deployment process. As a result the RAWers are now indicating that if you have scouts in your army you now automatically give up the +1 on the roll for first turn (unless you both have scouts when you roll to see who has the +1).

Apparently this doesn't extend to things that come on as reinforcements e.g. Tomb Scorps, Beastmen Ambushers, Miners, Gutter Runners who choose not to deploy as scouts, Gorgers etc.

But it does affect anything that deploys as Scouts at deployment - e.g. Shades, Gutter Runners who Scout, Waywatchers, camo skinks etc.

Must admit it was a new one on me  Embarrassed Anyway can we get a clear call one way or the other prior to event as to how the Masters will play. I'm ambivalent but would like to see a consistent method to avoid any suggestions of gamey-ness.

Thanks

RE: Scout Question.

Player who finishes deployment first gains +1 depending scenario. Scouts are then 'Set up'. I don't see that much ambiguity there really. ref. scouts, deployment BRB.

All lores will be printed on army lists handed out at the event. Don't have army lists with me at the moment. May get to it when I get home. Much more convenient if competitors put their lores down (I know you read this thread Wink )

Shadow, like the other cool kids.

FYI the ETC FAQ addresses the Scouts rule;

Quote
36. Do scouts count as deploying units, meaning the player who deployed a scout unit last never gets +1 for the 'who goes first' roll regardless of who finished the deployment of units first?
A. No

ETC rulings are not WHFB cannon. In this case they are simply wrong in thier conclusion, probably a hangover from 7th (where this was the case)
8th edition rules are very clear. RAW = scouts count as a deployment, reserves, EBtS etc do not

well that would be your raw interpretation of the wording, raw interpretation also says vanguard is a deployment as it states "after all other deployment" referring to itself as a deployment
what about ambushers? im sure u could look for enough wording in there to count that too

we are playing etc restrictions dunno why you wouldn't consider the etc faq a decent guide for things that are not 100% clear

*shrug*

Masters I using ETC pack yes? ETC rulings perfectly relevant here. I agree that the rulebook indicates the opposite, but for this tournament there is a clear ruling.

Good players good lists should be a great tournament.

Just a note should get some TAB style betting on the whole thing.

There is a TAB pool going it's at the Auckland City Guard backroom...

We aren't using ETC Faq's in this tournament to be precise but the calls will be pretty much similar.

>We aren't using ETC Faq's in this tournament to be precise but the calls will be pretty much similar.<

Thanks Phil.

Having followed the ETC FAQ formulation process the authors admit that they have changed some rules from the rulebook/army books in the interest of balance and/or clarity. This was needed for the ETC where there is a range of languages and playing cultures.

For any people I play, my general approach to gaming is to use the respective rulebook/army book as written - plus any relevant FAQs. Where there is disagreement with a playing partner I'm happy to talk to the TO and have both sides plead their case based on the rules. Of course any ruling the TO wants to make is what we play.  Smiley
Certainly don't see a rules discussion as a problem - it's the way we all learn. e.g. last week I learned that when you roll to see who goes first, the winner has no choice - he must go first. I've been playing it wrong - throwback to 7th - for almost a year and a half.

Looking forward to this event immensely. Over half the field I've never played and most - bar Joe - I haven't played more than once or twice.

Can't wait.
