Are currently in the process of painting a large resin model and was looking for a spray on matt varnish to use once it has been finished to seal the paint better for actual gaming use.

On small 28mm metal models I have been using a water based brush-on matt varnish which is actually for sealing artists canvas and while it has sort of worked, it is too thick to use on the finely detailed larger resin model without thinning down considerably and using four or five coats.

I was hoping someone could advise of as brand and where I can buy a good quality matt varnish spray that will seal well and not frost up? Thanks.

Go and see Claudia at Gordon Harris Newmarket, just down from your work - she's me mate: ... she's that sheila that asked if I rode a motorbike, or if I just wore my helmet because it was raining... Haha Huh

G.H. have a vast array of spray varnishes.

There was a spray product called "clear" which I used to use for print jobs.
That worked with ink jet ink and gave a matt finish. I think it was designed for canvass painting.

I recommend "Vallejo Matt Varnish, 60mL", it's brush on. $5 from Maelstrom and should do at least a couple of armies worth.

Was really looking for a spray to save time and also ordering from Maelstrom won't make it here in time for GuardCon so will need to find something else a little quicker but are keen to give it a try as I like the Vallejo paints. Is it water or spirit based?

It's in stock and should arrive next friday if you order it now. I get my Coat d'arms and P3 paints at the same time and they take 4 working days to arrive. The Matt vanish is all acrylic which is water based. If you're brave the vallejo water effects is the shizzle.

I went to go to Hobby City opposite the ports today but the shop was empty and there was an opening soon sign in the window? Is it Hobby City that is reopening there, have they moved to a new address for them or worse still they are closed for good? Any ideas?

Aaron, Hobby City amalgamated with another shop and moved to Mount Wellington months ago. Everyone knows that! Roll Eyes Tongue

They reckon it has four times the space and four times the product... but to me it appeared they just have the same amount of product with four times worse lighting. Cheesy

Go to Ikes Emporium in Browns Bay on the dirty old shore. They have a clear matt spray called "Moana, artist varnish matt". $7 per can and it is the BEST!!! No clouding and it ties in colour blends really nice.

I second Moana Matt Varnish. Been using it for years with no issues. And when they say Matt they really mean it, it is a dead flat finish.
