Guys,

We are planning to take a NZ ETC team to Poland in August 2012. We already have provisional interest from a lot of the class of 2011, and a couple of new people interested.

If you would like to go, or know more please let me know. As its a LOOOONGGG way we need to plan early. We try to get the team is finalised well before Christmas.

Please note: this is the only NZ forum I post on, so I would appreciate it if anyone who posts elsewhere in NZ could copy this there as well.

Thanks

Thanks for the interest, I've had a few PMs which is promising as well... to everyone interested, I need to know:

1) How definite are you that you are able to make the trip??

2) Are you a Kiwi, or international interloper (like me)?

3) What armies do you play, how long have you been playing?

4) Which players do you know well (so I can talk about you behind your back).

If you would like to know more about what goes on in terms of discussion/planning there is a 'Private' ETC forum. You need to register on 'The Warhammer Forum', and let me know your username - I can then get you access.

Please note, the "selection criteria", if it comes to us having more than 8 players definitely interested, in order of importance will be:

1) How likely is it you will be able to make the long and expensive trip (late drop outs are NOT good)?

2) Are you the nice, sporting kind of person/player the Team will want to hang out with, and be a good representative of NZ gaming?

3) Can you play warhammer?

You can ask any of the guys who've been - the event is ace, but a big commitment. FYI as a guide we generally need to finalise the team well before Christmas due to the need to confirm travel arrangements etc.

Got 5 PMs overnight.... some good interest going on so far - so thanks guys.

"how does the draw work with etc "

Not sure what you mean - selection of team members I have explained (briefly), Round by round match-ups is 'complicated' (ish). I suggest you look at ETC section of 'the warhammer fourm' under 'Pairings' if you want to know more.

That said, the team are required to say what results they expect to get vs each list - always assumed opponent doesn't make mistakes (this year that was 216 lists to review in a week or so - will be more next year), and the Captains job is to make sure we get more favourable match-ups (get 'greens' avoid the 'reds).

'Current' plan for selection, and timeline to ETC is likely to be

1) See who's interested, full list by end of September.

2) People who have been before discuss candidates, we get input from anyone else we know in the NZ scene... etc

3) Team announced start of November, flights etc get book.

Around Nov the Comp will also be 'close' to finalisation (generally 'tweeks' only by this stage), and we will start to determine armies/lists.

4) After much practice etc, Team has 'provisional' lists and match-up ideas by end of March

5) After review of match ups we make changes to Lists/Armies as required (on reflection this year we should have had more lists that can take out shooty armies... too many bad match-ups for the Team on these).

6) By end of April we should be close to 'final' lists, these are then practiced with and tweaked as required, until list submission start of July.

This may seem like a lot of time/effort, but it is NOTHING compared to most of the other Teams (Denmark/Poland will typically have played 100+ games with their ETC lists, and spends HOURS discussing every detail of comp/lists/match-ups...etc)

@ Dave posted a similiar callout on the South Island Forum

I'll be at Guardcon in a couple of weeks, if you want to ask any specific questions regarding ETC, prep, event etc. I'll do my best

would love to if i could get to run out with my choas dwarfs noone plays them apart from me and i recon i could catch a few people flat footed untill i run in to the cannoncon empier armies and anything in dragon armour  or anyone who really knows how to play (so everyone at etc)

my pick is mr wu for team new zealand

you may call me a dreamer but i would take my chaos dwarfs against any of the vamps from etc  i have looked at most of the lists on the other thread and i would pick that i would get 15-5 wins most the time

Thanks for the update Dave, certainly a keen showing and good luck to all the applicants.
I appreciate the management involved in forging definite plans moving forward.

I would like some ETC Warhammer Forum access at some point if possible, same user name.

Dual citizen, living in Canada, in Europe next summer for work.

Also touring around NZ until Oct 24th - want a game?
