With a lot more people interested in Warmachine and Hordes lately down the club I thought I'd touch base again with whats on and whats coming up in the next wee while for us; Thrallblacks; We call the NZ Warmachine initiative the thrallblacks and run events all over the country as well as maintaining the blog-like noticeboard here. We have regular content from both organisers, tournament pics and player diaries/updates showcased on Thrallblacks from around the country with a handy events list down the left hand side so you know whats coming up. Check it regularly for new stuff and updates or subscribe with your choice of RSS reader. On the events side we have tons of events going around the country and a great community conducive to travelling all over to meet the guys and hang out for the weekend. Example being Josh Luke and I are headed down to Call to Arms, Wellington's showcase tournament next month for a great weekend away. Events; In Auckland we have Guardcon coming up in October where we'll all be breaking out the Battleboxes for a sharp couple of days introducing everyone to the game and honing those skills for everyone who's started playing recently. In June next year we'll also be hosting Nicon, the Warmachine Team Challenge. This year went off like a bomb with 27 players, 9 teams of three. Nicon will be 35pts, three players per team and 100% awesome fun. Extra;I am happy to provide info, advice or details on anything you might need. Just email thrallblacks@gmail.com and I'll get to it quick snap.

Was wondering lately, instead of playing random games each week, if we can maybe get some sort of campaign going like they had in Welly.
Just a thought

I'm brainstorming some ideas for a league. But with several people just barely getting into/past the battlebox stage I would like to wait until we have maybe at least 6-8 regulars who are capable of playing at the 25pts+ stage first.

We can definitely do that.
The next PP league starts Sep 19 if people want to do that,
or I am happy to cook up a three week 15/25/35pts escalation league if people prefer.

Basic rules for this years League are here. There are lots of little spicey things like weather and faction advantages as well as a global territory map where you input your games for your faction to gain ground. Adding in all those random rules might not be the greatest for newer people who haven't got all their models stuff down pat yet but we can always just play games with a league ladder and use the points per game from the PP Pack.

Most of the time people play home games but there are some regular venues like City Guard.
Pop down to the Warmachine tables at Guardcon this weekend and come meet some of the locals, thats the best way to work it mate. I'll be running the event and probably painting some Ret during the rounds.

I am getting into Warmachine with Cryx and Hordes with Circle Orboros.
Not sure who I'll play against [hoping a mate will get the table top war game bug and learn with me]
Getting the Cry Battle box and the Orboros warpack.
Will see how that goes.... anyone near or know of players close to Te Aroha, Matamata, Hamilton?
Cheers LGW

FYI Chris do you have a list of which battleboxes people are using at GC? I'm thinking of just using one of yours, since Greg will probably have his circle, plus I don't feel like using pKaya unless I have to.

I have just finished painting my guard and want a new project but don't have enough money for GW stuff atm. Thinking about starting a war machine army for my next project.
How many points do people usually play at the club and how many models do you need?

35pts is most common and thats usually about 10-20 models depending on build.

Joel I am doing an order to an overseas supplier currently we are getting a 10% discount off the order. but we could get 15% if the order is over 250USD [we are not far off this] if you want to join this group order then let me know. any discount is better then none. most of what I have learnt so far is simply choose a battle box from Warmachine or warpack from Hordes and then just add to it what you like. learnt heaps from the PPforum board. for me it was Cryx undead steam punk and Circle of Orboros due to the wolf theme. Cheers LGW

Hi,
I was thinking of getting that 2 player battle box and hopefully adding some of the pirate mercinaries to one or both of the armies. Im still trying to find out how mercinaries work.
I dont know if they are any good but I love the pirate models

Mercenaries work mosltly as a supplement to an armies troops prviding different options or addtional bodies where required.
The Pirates work on quite a linear buff mechanic. Each solo adds a level of awesome to the individual Pirates who are then the engine of the list. The pressganger unit with a few of the Solos can be spliced into a Faction unit but will dominate the points in the list and not benefit from a lot of the Faction Buffs available from the Warcaster.
The two player box is very good value though, both halves provide a good starting point for the faction and give you a good number of models to work with.

The Sea Dog Crew are a real good unit in a pirate army. Especially under Shae or Fiona they are great and combine really well with all the other Pirates. If those are the models that get you Jazzed then I would look into Mercenaries.

Joel, I have the 2 player battle box on pre-order, if you want to play some games with it before buying, perhaps you should hit me up when i've got it on board.
I love the pirate models too, and when you're getting into a new wargame it is ALWAYS the better idea to run with whatever inspires and motivates you. Try the battle box first to see whether you like the factions in it, and if not, just dive straight into a pirate-themed merc army. Yarrr!

Im actually not going to be able to play any wargames for the next 4 weeks or so. I was planning on doing some painting to help get me through my withdrawal, hence the idea to start a new army

I'm sure someone is, but I'm not familiar enough with the non-shore areas of Auckland to know.
A lot of people do live central-ish so popping down to an event or commenting on an Auckland-local Thrallblacks post will probably net you a couple.

ok finalized my lists going to get Cryx and Cygnar will be sending it away early next week... so once it arrives i'll be bussy painting so in a month or two I could be ready to play 15,25 or 35pts worth of Cryx/Cygnar. [if anyone is keen then msg me so we can try and organize some games still a NOOBIE with regards to WM/H] LGW if anyone wants in on this order you'll get 15% discount on the price of the items. if not no probs.... just trying to spread the savings and cut back on the p&p costs. order thread: http://www.cityguard.co.nz/forum/index.php/topic,3741.0.html
