Gidday,

I went to buy some Simple Green to do some model stripping and came to the realization that I have no idea which is the product that gets purchased by club members: in other words there are heaps of Simple Green's - which one is the one I want?

Thanks,

L P

Its easy go down to a the gasy or repco by any random brake fluid buy a tub with screw on lid and you are done, cost about $10 will strip anything and not damage plastic models. Leave models in there for a few days if they have lots and lots of paint. Pull out brush in water with stiff brush if still needs more stripping follow process untill happy.

Are you sure ANY brake fluid will do this? Dot 4 should but Dot 5 Fluid being silicone based probably won't strip things too well and if the model has enamel paint it will take longer than a few days to strip it.

Does the Simple Green stripping process take a few days also or is this a quicker alternative than brake fluid?

Sorry for the thread jacking Lezle...

Simple Green is just that. In a bottle (usually spray type) with a green label, with the name Simple Green in big letters on it.

Simple Green takes a few days but does a decent job. When I was stripping CSMs I got into a good routine of leaving one lot soaking while I painted the previous batch. 5-6 weeks of soaking will shift anything  Grin

Electric toothbrush also makes the scrubbing easier

Warehouse brake fluid doesn't work, I tried. buy from Repco.

Seriously, Brake fluid is way better than simple green.

I bought Caltex Dot 4 brake Fluid. I left the models, both metal and plastic, in the fluid for two weeks... and nothing happened!

I was of the opinion that B.F. was the bees knees as well - now I'm just disappointed. Sad

Damieon informed me that Simple Green did the trick - hence this topic.

Simple Green, works like a gem on metal figures, not quite as good on plastic, with the assistance of a toothbrush, a Stanley knife blade and a bit of patience . I use it all the time to clean up the crap I buy off trade me and highly recommend it.
Also its great for get rid of super glue and cleaning the rims on the car.

I haven't tried breakfluid, but I have tried simple green and it did not work well for me.

I found a clip on youtube using plain old Dettol disinfectant and tried it out, this stripped paint really well and it does not hurt plastic figures either  Smiley

Lezle I have a bottle in front of me right now. It says

'Concentrated
Simple Green
All Purpose Cleaner'

It's 650ml and has a spray top. It works fine for me most times, though there is some kinds of paint it seems not to touch, often undercoat on really really old models. If you can find anything that claims to be more concentrated then I'd go for that

It's a good product but it's not a miracle maker.

I think your"palm tree" brushes are ready for replacement and no amounty of brush preserver will fix them. When you get your new brushes use the preserver after every few times you paint and your brushes should last that little bit longer.

Now if you could find a product that actually stops the brushes curling it would be a miracle product.
