Let me direct you all to http://studiomcvey.com/

For those who don't know, Mike McVey is the most infuential miniatures painter of all time, he originally started with GW, leading the painting team, writing 'eavy metal articles for white dwarf, painting many of their models and building their dioramas, and judging golden daemon.

He left the company and started his own business, studio mcvey.  The miniatures are absolutely fantastic.  If you read the 'about our miniatures' part of their site you'll see they do what is basically 'finecast', but seriously fine and without botchups.  It wasn't until last week that I finally bought a miniature, the raven priest.  I couldn't find something in warhammer I wanted to represent with one of their models, but circle of orboros in hordes is perfect.  I'm going to use this guy as p&eKrueger and even mohsar.

The model arrived a number of days ago and it was perfect, except a little bit fragile and brittle where the 'raven' spell effect extends from his mouth.  I've ordered other models which I will use in my hordes army as well.  Will try to bring him on sunday, and pics forthcoming as I finish painting him.

he left GW then joined PP at one point, got sick of the boss at PP and the whole family moved back home and started his only site.

I think his wife paints better than him.

Not sure that's exactly true. When he left PP he cited issues with his work visa, given that he is British and PP are based in the US. Not sure if that's the whole story though.

It's interesting Studio McVey is turning out such good stuff, though, as Mike McVey's own attempts at sculpting aren't fantastic (see the old Chaplain Lemartes for proof). He attracts good talent though, like Kev White from my favourite independent mini company, Hasslefree Miniatures.
