Simon and I will be trying out the Kings of War rules from Mantic Games this Sunday if anyone's curious. The rules and army lists (written by Alessio Cavatore) can be downloaded free here:

http://www.manticgames.com/Hobby/Gaming.html

By all accounts it's intuitive, simple to learn but with deep strategy. We'll soon find out, I guess. The best part is existing Warhammer armies can be used. I'll be playing with my freshly assembled Elves.

Thanks and congrats to Simon for winning our first Kings of War game today.

I really enjoyed the game, very fast & easy to pick up. If anyone else is keen to have a go with their Warhammer army, take a look at the free rules and army lists here:

http://www.manticgames.com/Hobby/Gaming.html

We managed to set up and finish playing our first game by 3pm. Once we're familiar with the rules there's nothing stopping us from playing twice in a club day.

yes, thanks for the game.

I really enjoyed it too, in my opinion, it is a very balance and simple system and very easy to pick up, most of the units can be represented by warhammer fantasy models. The rulebook is ONLY 12 pages, so it is very easy to learn and the army books are all free to download and only 1 page!

I think it is definitely worth giving a go if you like fantasy.

I didn't realize you were playing this to-day. I would have had a wee gander otherwise; I'd be keen to give it a burl in a two weeks time.

Yeah Lez, I can run through a game with you in a couple of weeks if you're interested. Do you have figures already?

By the way, Simon, we played a few rules wrong. Friendly units can move through one another, but not charge. Also, handguns/crossbows and war machines can't move and shoot in the same turn. Finally found the rule in the 'Moving and Shooting' section on page 6 of the rules. These weapons can only be fired if they are given the halt order in the movement phase (so no change of facing either).

Next time, stunties, next time!

Great. Yes, I'd be keen. I have a huge Empire army... well, actually, it's modeled on sixteenth century Landskenechts (nerd-like chuckle!).

I'll bone up on the FREE rules over the next wee bit, write up a list, and waffle along for a game. Smiley

Ok, only issue at present is the lack of a Human lis but I hear that will be rectified in the next few weeks (fingers crossed). In the meantime you could always use one if the existing lists:

Undead
Elves
Dwarves
Orcs
Abyssal (Chaos) Dwarves

There are fan made Human lists on the Warseer forums I'd be happy to play against with my pointy-eared gits. 1000pts is a good starter game so take a look at the options and we'll have a game.

1000 points it is. I'll get busy.

Ah. I was just about to send you a PM; sorry, a family gathering has been announced and I must obey.  Angry

I'll try for the week after, but I'll have to check my ski-ing dates... It may be a while before I can give this a go, me thinks. Sad

On a lighter note, I must say I am mighty impressed with how this looks like it will play - big units and ultra simple!

I'll get back to you in the next few weeks.

D'oh! Oh well, anyone else keen for a game this weekend? Weekend of the 17th I'm giving Kevin a game of Warpath so that may not work for me either :-(

If you guys want to have a game then, that's fine by me, I'm going to get my brother to test the rules with me to get a feel of it.  Tongue
However, if you guys are going to play each other on the 17th, please let me know beforehand so I can look for a game.  Grin

Warsmith - I challenge thee to a game of Warhammer Fantasy, this Sunday!
You name the points and my fancy pants High Elves will match you Smiley
(fancy pants - because they don't wear skirts like a bunch of sissy girl elves)

Note: if need some proxies (spearmint/hydra/Witchee poos) just let me know and we can probably sort something out

Weasel-Fierce wouldn't mind trialing a game of Kings of War if your keen.
I havn't read the rules but can have it done by sunday, let me know what points. I can bring down some dwarves to represent either mantic dwarves or infernal dwarves or high elves to proxy elves.
Would be a good break from warhammer.

Sweet, sounds good. I have 1000pts of Elves so if you played Dwarfs/Abyssal Dwarfs that'd be good. The rules are an absolute doddle so you should have no problem reading them by then.

I'm Regan, by the way.

Lez, I'm free for a game of KoW on the 17th. I've been a busy little bee and have added quite a few troops to my force so can do up to 2000pts now :-) 1000pts is still a better idea for a starter game though. Let me know if you're free.

Sorry, old bean, I can't make it on the 17th as I'm off ski-ing - it's a tough life being in the jet-set, but as they say, some-one's gotta do it.  Wink

I'll sort something out upon my return.

No worries.

So looks like I'm free for a game of Kings of War or Warpath if anyone's keen on the 17th.
