In answer to why we care about ordering online:

I think this is because GW's toys are (probably/maybe) the best, their fluff, too but mostly because we've already spent thousands on them.

Why sell your armies for a fraction of the price you paid in order to start a new system you'll bitch about in a few years when they get too big 'n greedy?

Will hypothetical forementioned gamer ironically return to GW only to have to buy ANOTHER army?

Nose.Cut.Spite .Face?

Get the drift?

I see a lot of people are picking up warmachine/hordes, but I think very few if any are actually selling off their GW related armies.

After spending soo long assembling and painting a mini, I'd be loathe to sell it on unless I was really strapped.

GW's toys and fluff being the best is something akin to tunnel vision. It's really, if not purely, a part of being caught up in the game.

They have some good stuff, but overall the quality in thier whole product is questionable.. . I say this having experienced the change in moving from GW years ago i.e. without the current additional baggage.
- I mean, I'm not being biased here; I remember back when I played GW and puzzled at other companies minis, etc.

Has any company other than GW got "too big and greedy"?

I'm surprised Josh hasn't had more to say on threads like this, he's the only one of us who has been active in both PP and GW systems for a solid stretch of time.

Noone is suggesting that selling armies has even been a good EV decision, but putting an army on the shelf for a while doesn't destroy it or force a sale. I think its good to see so many of the club guys giving a go to other games and in particular Warmachine being the largest and most stable of the alternatives. Especially when there is such a low buy in cost (~NZD$60 Battlebox) and a typical army costs maybe ~NZD$200 which could include that box.

(BTW: the Warmachine version of Black Reach comes out September priced at RRPUSD$99 so ~USD$80)

I do agree though that people who spend all their time in one background become immersed and invested in that IP (which is a good thing) to the extent that it may prejudice them against others.

Sometimes I have this problem with the Privateer IP but while I may only play WarmaHordes I do love the 40k background and when I can I read novels and play their derivative videogames. But after innumerable go's I just cannot paint that many guys for one army (WFB or 40K) or justify spending so much on toys from a company who's ruleset and policies cause me to rage so frequently.

I kinda agree with Luke, Josh is a great example. Guy manages to play really well at Warmachine and still plugs those WFB armies in, hell he's even running TS4 for everyone.

Ha.

Hypothetical gamer is anyone. You, me, even old Hausdorff space who didn't read my post in any detail  Wink

Sure, we are all annoyed by GWs decisions but thinking it's odd people are glad to be able to buy online again is odd in itself. It's as though other systems have suddenly become -wait for it "THE GREAT MESSIAHS OF GAMING" Really? Really, really? Really...?

I didn't say another Company was as big 'n Greedy as the big GW. I said it would be funny when the new Company you cuddle up to becomes this way. What then? Abandon ship again? Ringa ringa rosie as we change games? If that's your thing, ok, no sweat. I'll stick with GW even though they irritated me. I doubt any company is perfect.

I'm not anti PP, WM or anything else. It's a good thing that people are trying other systems. I just couldn't be bothered. The point I made is that I (and thousands+ like me) have spent thousands on GW. Maintaining our addiction is cheaper than jumping into a new system which I may or may not like.
Boycott them if you want (I will for this year, too). Stop playing? Why? I've 4 fully painted armies, why the hell would I start buying/painting/investing time in another system. As a father of 2 small children my time is at a premium - one of the reasons I can hardly get into WHFB (much as I want to), never mind Warmachine or anything else.

Besides, GW stuff IS the best, why else are they the biggest/most successful.  Wink

Ha ha. Enough flaming already.

I added the last sentence to get a rise. Smiley Nothing better than nerdrage. Or more amusing.

Oh, and btw. Nice drawing attention to something I edited. Creates a little excitement, huh?  Grin

I read your post in detail... several times, it's just confusingly written Tongue

I also considered editing my post to indicate that, but thought my comments were worth making regardless.

You're the only one who seems to find the post confusing. I was simply commenting on why we are happy to buy online again despite disbelief from several quarters.

Anyway, I apologise. I'll write my posts more carefully in the future. Possibly using shorter words and simple sentences.

...or is that longer words and more complex sentences, explaining every tiny nuanced thought in detail?

I forget.

Senile demetia does that.

I don't know why you're so... I don't know what word to use.

Your initial post was an undirected "answer to a question", with three of the four sentences being rhetorical questions.

I'm not chiding you for that... and I wasn't before.
My initial reply was countering or extending one of your remarks, and querying another.

Don't take things so seriously.

You having a bad week Carl?

It all boils down to different points of view man, you're invested and don't have time nor the spare money to shop around because your kids eat both. On the other hand despite a job that consumes nearly as much time I have plenty of spare money (no spawn yet Grin) so a couple of grand as a sunk cost doesn't bother me as much.

Its even better for me because it led me to the game I prefer in leaps and bounds and who's miniatures (hit and miss as much as GW) I prefer anyway.

Now you've explained your point of view its not so incomprehensib le anymore.

No offense taken and none intended. Difficult with an online post because ypu can't hear tone but my comments were all wrly humourous, not sarcastic/caustic or upset (perhaps I should use emoticons more often?  Cheesy Grin Wink Smiley Roll Eyes Tongue Embarrassed Kiss Cry

Huasdorff, old man, you sound like my wife (small joke -my wife's a darling. Maybe you are, too). Cheer up, dude, wasn't attacking you - my online commenting skills are poor at best. I apologise.

I was making a post because of all the vitriol flying about (some of which I feel myself). In any case, this thread has seen interest so it can not have been a complete waste/irrelevant to everyone.

Besides, I like rhetorical questions. Let's people fill in the blanks for themselves, besides, some questions can't be answered.
