Warhammer Fantasy at CanOpener 2011

Auckland City Guard has a strong history of supporting our community with our yearly can drive and charity day. This year we are supporting Auckland City Mission with our can drive also we are supporting our south island cousins after the Christchurch earthquake with our fund raising. We would like you to come and help us in doing this and at the same time have a lot of fun spending a day playing with your toys throwing dice around.

Warhamer Fantasy At CanOpener:

18th June 2011, 8am Start.

5 Games of 1600pts, One day tournament.

Venue: Auckland City Guard Club, 52 Hepburn St, Freemans Bay, Auckland Central.

Entry fee is $10 plus a minimum of 3 cans of food (for dice rerolls). You can bring along as many cans as you like and spend them all 
Paid at the club in advance to reserve you a place or at the venue on the day.

There will be Cafe at the venue and funds from this will go to help the Christchurch Earthquake appeal.

What will I need to enter?
All you need to bring with you to enter Canopener is the following, $10 and a minimum of 3 cans of food to donate during the day. The cans we are using for dice rerolls during the games.
Event format
Canopener format this year is a 5 round 1600 point single day Warhammer tournament.
We will be using the main rule book scenarios with a little extra added.
Rounds will be 90 minutes long with a 10 minute turn around period. Timetable for the day is on the following page.
Please come at 8am to help us set up initially. It will lead to a much easier day for all of us and stick around to help us pack up after a fun days gaming.
Payment options
Please bring cash on the day there is a dairy that you can get cash out from if you forget just round the corner.
Parking
At Freemans bay there is room for several cars inside the car pack and also there are quite a few free parks on the road and the side streets just outside from the centre.

Building your army
Aside from cans and cold hard cash you’re going to need to bring your army if you want to take part along with dice tape measure and templates.
All armies must be 1600 points and have typed/ written army list with you on the day that fit the restrictions (below) please bring your army book(s) and main rule book.
Armies must be from the latest rule book for the army released in NZ up to and including 1st May 2011. Chaos Dwarf and Dogs of War players will have to use the respective Indy lists, see TO for a copy.
The format for composition is hard caps with a few things that in a 1600 point game will be banned to keep things fun. After all it’s a fun day not a serious tourney.

 Army specific restrictions

Empire:No steam tank, no duplicate war machines.
Warriors of Chaos: No infernal puppet, 0-1 knights.
Chaos Dwarfs: Take Hell cannon or Earthshaker, 0-1 blunderbuss unit, no duplicate war machines.
Dwarfs: 0-1 miners, no anvil, no duplicate war machines.
High Elves: No Book of Hoerth.
Dogs of War: None. Use Indy GT book (see above)
Daemons of Chaos: No siren song. Flamers max size 4, second unit of hounds counts towards rare point’s allowance.
Brets: 0-1 unit knight 10+ in size.
Lizardmen:  0-1 any Steg, 0-1 Terradons, 0-1 Chameleon skinks.
Orcs & Goblins. 0-6 Fanatics, no duplicate war machines (2 for 1 counts as 1).
Tomb kings. No Liche lord, no duplicate war machines.
Skaven: Take Hell pit abomination or warp cannon, 0-1 Skaven engineer,  0-1Gutter runners.
Wood Elf: 0-1 tree man.
Vampires: No coach, no Helm of Commandment.
Ogre Kingdoms: No slaughtermaste r, may take Rhinox as rare choice (which Stomp).
Dark elves: No Ring of Hotek or Sacrificial dagger.

 Terrain and Line of Sight

Players are encouraged to discuss the terrain on their table before each game. Forests and rivers are mysterious terrain, other terrain pieces will be noted if they are other than normal. Hills of any height block line of sight to all models except those with the 'large target' special rule, and buildings block line of site to and from all models.

Painting

There will be no painting score given out. However we will have a peer judged best painted army prize that everyone who plays will have chance to vote on. So you don't need a painted army but if you want to be considered for best painting bring a fully painted army.
Scenarios

Game one: dawn attack extra rules.
The most expensive unit to make it on to the enemy deployment zone scores its vp as a bonus this includes any hero's inside the unit as long as the unit is unbroken.
Game two: blood and glory.
Play all 6 turns as normal but the side that wins the victory conditions gains an extra 400 vps to add to their total also if at the end you are unbroken you gain an extra 200 (this may apply to both sides).
Game three: meeting engagement
The most expensive enemy unit scores double victory points if destroyed before the end of the game hero's and lords give up and extra 50 points each if killed.
Game 4: battle line
Kill the king. Killing the enemy general will net double his points on top of all bonuses for killing an army general.
Battle 5: watchtower
Hold the tower at the end of the game nets 400 points extra
If you drive someone out of the watchtower it scores 100 victory points. You can get multiple points for this.

Additional victory points

You score the points value units that are dead or fled.
Kill a lord level 100 points
Kill a battle standard bearer 100 points
Seized a regular standard 25 points
Underdog challenge 50 points
Kill a hero level character 50 points

Sports max 25 points

As we are at a charity event I'm sure everyone will be having fun and play nice. However we will be scoring sports to hopefully ensure a fun and exciting day for everyone in attendance.
After each game you will be asked one question to review you game it will be a yes or no question.
Did my opponent in the way they played the game and acted spoil the enjoyment for me? If yes it will score 0 points if no it will score 5 points.

Winning the Tournament
Battle points max 100
Sports points' max 25
Bring your rule book and army book 5 each
Score out of a max total 135 points. Tie break will be battle, Sports, rulebook, army book, in that order.

What to do with the cans

No you haven't brought the cans for my lunch, but if you have thanks.
The reason you have brought the cans is to swap them for dice rerolls to use during the games. You can re roll as many dice from a single action as you wish for a single can donation.
You may not use a can to reroll a reroll.

I have had a few email chats with Phil and we are both keen to have a look at the new warhammer forge chaos dwarf army on the table. If anyone wants to run it instead of the Indy army book, they are more than welcome and both will be legal for the day but not a mix of the two.

Did I overlook a specific cap on Rare choices? In the players pack above OGs seem to have a Fanatic cap and a warmachine restriction - didn't see anything referencing Manglers...?

4 Mangler Squigs is 260pts and is the sum total of my Rare choices - well short of the 25% Rare allowance (400pts for a 1600pt list). There is nothing in the OG book limiting the number of Manglers for any size list (as there is for Pump Wagons).

Bought my cans tonight. 27 cans for $35. Watties have some crazy specials on, such as $3 cans of soup for $1. Could have got a fair few more for my dollars but figured I'd throw in some tasty-but-expensive stuff as well - real people have to eat this stuff!

If you're taking DoC you won't be needing your Seaguard then will you. That sorts out my army choice. I'll show you how Seaguard should work, if you're agreable, and don't mind being beaten by your own army:)
