I'm almost out of plastic glue again, and don't really feel like buying yet another 5g bottle of stringy plastic glue for $14.

I like to fully assemble my models and then paint them, so I'm considering switching entirely to super glue, you can pull arms etc. off and re-glue with fairly minimal hassle. However I've grabbed a few small tubes from hammer hardware and they have a fairly poor quick set time compared to GW super glue. after having two bottles of GW super basically fall apart and start to dry up, I'm looking for an alternative to this.

In the states everyone uses gorilla super glue brand, which you can basically hold the pieces together for 5 seconds and forget about it. Anyone have recommendation s on quick setting, cost effective superglue?

I'd personally always go with plastic glue for plastic models. I don't recall where I got my bottle from, but it's 'Italeri Non toxic cement for plastics', 34ml and has lasted me for 2 large armies over about 8 years. Brilliant stuff.

If you are set on super glue, I use 'Selleys Quick Fix Non-drop Gel Superglue'. You can get it from the Warehouse. Works pretty well, though I've also used gorilla brand and found it good. You should get the 5-10 second bond that you're after.
I much much prefer gel over liquid. It's far easier to work with and I think it bonds better as well.

I might give a few other plastic glues a chance, I've only used GW stuff currently, and I find the applicator gets blocked up badly, and when it gets old it becomes super stringy, leaving strands of glue everywhere.

The bottle I have just has a long nozzle, which I keep blocked up with a pin. Occasionally I'll have to poke around a bit to get it open, but normally it's fine.

I get my super glue shipped in.
I'm currently out of the stuff and will be making an order soon.
It's professional hobby super glue and comes in Slow, super and instant bottles.
I use the Super which takes about 10-20 seconds to cure and which also acts as a filler which is awesome.
The instant is the stuff you want for fast bonds.
The glue is quality glue which means it will dry non brittle and the bond will last a lot longer than cheap glue.

1/4oz (~7g) Bottle is $10    -- It's way better than any super market or warehouse glue. Should last you for 2-4years, 3-6 large armies is what I've used them for.

If people are keen I can take their orders and I'll mail order it in a couple of weeks. Let me know if you're keen.

The best glue I've ever used is the hobby glue GF9 makes. It act like super glue should (dries hard in 5-10 seconds and glues on any surface) Yet it doesn't have all the hassles you would find with other super glues such as sticking you fingers together (easy to pull apart with enough force) and doesn't use a silly brush like GW's (I mean seriously? Applying super glue with a brush? Are they insane?)

2nd the GF9 Super glue. Been really happy with this stuff went from hot stuff to this as vaga stopped selling that. So it was GW or GF9 and the GF9 has been king and been very happy with it as good as the old hot stuff.

$2 shop supper glue is ok for urgent fixes but i would never glue my models together with it. Models get a hard life at tournaments you want to make sure they dont fall to part better glue is worth the extra cash and hell glue lasts forever. I buy maybe one a year and that normaly because the nose of the bottle is all bugged and full of dry glue i cant cut off any more.

I'm gonna order some good quality super glue with Phil next time he gets some, I have enough cheap stuff to get me by.

Any good alternatives to GW plastic glue? I've never tried anything else, but I'm finding the GW stuff is expensive and it appears to dry out in the bottle too, I've got some stuff that's maybe 6 months old, about 30% left, and it's all goopey and stringey Sad

What plastic glue you guys use, from where and how much?

Humbrol. It is great. Under a fiver, too. When I can't get that I get this:

I bought a tube from Hobbycity. It was $5. It dries very quickly, but stinks to High-Heaven!

Testors reminds me of UHU in its texture and smell, so if you've ever used that you'll know what I'm talking about. Smiley

all those names you guys have said are low end crap glues. They work for a time but expect to have to be gluing bits back on when you pick up the models.

All glue over time will dry out a little and go a little stringy. It due to it being opened.

I dont see why you are worrying about $15-20 for some good stuff. Take if from me modeling cheap does not work you waste money in the long run and are unhappy with your work. Just spend the cash and do the job once and right the first time.

I'll take your word for it Laz, I'm not wanting to compromise on quality if at all possible. I still use GW black spray cans 'cause I just don't like anything else.

With most things there is a cheaper alternative that does the job better, guess this isn't the case Sad

Cheap works but only for a short time.

So when you are playing in the 6 game tournament arms are going to fall off. What is not good.

Cheap is good for things like display boards and scenery.

Anything in the world these days cheap stuff does not always end up cheap in the long term. This accounts to anything really better to spend the money for a better product.
