Hey boys and girls

It has fallen to me to sort you all out something for can opener.

Initial thoughts are 750 points armies and five rounds

Missions are yet to be announced but will not be Standard Missions.... be prepared for something different Grin

Cans can be traded for rerolls in the game and to buy a secondary mission for each game ..... more to come on this

Any questions, thoughts and gripes are to be sent this way

Hope to see you there Smiley

Something with a black hole perhaps?

Seriously though, thanks for stepping up old bean. I do have a question. This is the first time I've heard of Canopener and there is talk of cans for re-rolls or secondary missions. Does that mean if you get a bad roll, you can just say "Here's a can of food, give me a re-roll"? Also, any particular food?

That is pretty much how it works.... you come in with a mountain of cans and if you do not like your dice roll you trade in a can to reroll it  Grin standard rule apply though cant reroll a reroll.

As for type of food remember it all gets donated to the city mission so no jellymeat Grin

Scouts are coming out to play me thinks, Talon has been upgraded to a captain with boltgun so i could run full scouts. Another last place i think for me like grumpy daemon  Grin Grin

All we need is some shotguns!! Don't need this thing called Power Armour!

30! Hope they weren't cans of caviar and Foie Gras.

What's the etiquette btw? Do you bring them all in with you and use them as you need them? Or do you bring a whole bunch in and get a credit for X amount of cans that you mark off as you use them? Or do have them in the car ready to give at the end of the even? Or just tell people you're good for it and pay it at a later date?

Or perhaps I should just wait till the players pack comes out.

BTW Paul, my missus took exception to saying "No Jellymeat". She claims most homeless people quite often look after stray animals better than many.

Cans of food or other non-perishables that the Auckland City Mission can use in their food parcels. Here is a link to their website list: http://www.aucklandcitymission.org.nz/information.php?info_id=69&mID=84

So fruit, baked beans, spagetti, tomatoes, meals in a can, soup, fish/meat and other staples like pasta, rice etc.

Needs to be as new as can be, can't be crusty cans from the back of the pantry Smiley

And if you want to donate other things, like toiletries that's good too.

Most people usually bring in their stash of at least 3 cans (part of entry fee) and spend them... some of the guys last time brought slabs of cheap cans and just used as many as they could in the games and donated the rest afterwards. And we took photo's with each game group with their piles of donations.

But they are really good for running away from a fight Cheesy.

You used them well in that second fight. My lack of Anti Armour really hurt me. Have redone my list after our discussions. Will be interesting to see how the new list goes.

Laz and I played two 750 games last Sunday. The first one took about 90 minutes, but that includes setting up. The second one took about 1 hour (and that's with me being a noob with the new codex).

Just read them. Some fun missions. So hoping at least one or two people roll a 1-2 in game five.

Thanks Paul.

Players pack for Warhammer 40k at Can Opener

Can opener is a one day event to be held on 18th of June 2011 for the purpose of doing our bit to help out  the community while doing what we love, playing games. Entry is $10 ($5 for the Hall Hire and $5 for Prize Support) and a minimum of three cans of food for in game use and venue is Freemans Bay Community Centre.
Freeman's Bay Community Hall, 52 Hepburn Street, Auckland

Warhammer 40k will be a five game 750 point tournament with armies selected from the appropriate Warhammer 40k Codex.
There will be five rounds in the day, games 1-4 will be one on one. Game five will be a Multiplayer all on all of three to four players per game depending on numbers. Games 1-4 will be played on a 4’x4’ Table game 5 on a 4’x6’

Round 1:0830-1000
Round2:1000-1130
Lunch:1130-12;00
Round 3:1200-1330
Round 4:1330-1500
Round5:1500-1730

The Cans
The big difference between this tournament and others is the use of can donations. During each game a can can be donated (yell out and I will collect it) to reroll a single D6 Dice roll (not a scatter dice) you cannot however reroll a reroll you have previously failed. Secondly cans can be traded in to purchase one secondary mission per game as mentioned later

Choosing your Army:

The permitted armies will have a published and available codex listed below.

Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Black Templars
Codex: Blood Angels
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Space Wolves
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Daemons
Codex: Witch Hunters
Codex: Grey Knights
Codex: Imperial Guard
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Tau Empire
Codex: Orks
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Tyranids

If your list specifically allows allies, either in its codex or a result of supplementary list published in another codex then they can be used.

Weapons, armour options and upgrades chosen from the codex must be shown on all the models in a unit. You are encouraged to use converted Citadel miniatures to represent units not yet available.

Forge World/Imperial Armour units are not allowed to be fielded; however players may still use their Forge World models to represent a unit from their codex. Individual units that may have multiple rules versions will follow the rules presented in that army's codex. Please take the time to review the relevant FAQ's for clarifications .

Special/Unique/Named Characters may be fielded, provided their individual rules allow them to be used in armies of 750 pts or less.

The 'What You See Is What You Get' (WYSIWYG) rule is in effect. That means all units must be easily identifiable as the particular codex choice they represent and that any and all weapons/options taken for a unit must be clearly represented on the model(s).

Victory Points
For games 1-4 one point will be given for a loss, three for a draw and six for a win.
For game 5 one point will be awarded for players who have no troops in the scoring zone, three points to any player that has any troops in the scoring zone (but does not win) and six points to the player with the most points in the scoring zone. Two points will be awarded to any player wiped out, with a two point bonus if it happens in turn one or two and a one point bonus if it occurs in turn three.
Painting
While it will not compulsory to have a fully painted army I like to see fully painted armies as I walk around and if I don’t see them I become sad (you don’t want to make me sad do you?) It is only 750 points do your best.
Sports
There is not going to be an official sports score, but keep in mind the purpose of this tournament is to have fun and help charity, there is no massive prize money and no scores will be put towards any ranking system the golden rule is don’t be a douche. I reserve the rights to dole out penalties to anybody breaking this rule 
What you will need on the day
Your Rulebook and Codex
Your Army and at least one objective marker
Dice, Measuring devices and Templates
Pen
Cans (at least 3)
This Players Pack (I will have some copies but bring one if you can please)
A good attitude

The Missions

Each mission has the standard Deployment and Victory condition rules that apply from the rulebook but also “The Catch” which is the special little rules I have added just for this tournament ….. enjoy 

Mission One; Kill Devil Hill
Deployment; Spearhead
Victory Conditions; Annihilation
The Catch; In the centre of the table will be the objective hill, kill points can only be gained by units with at least one model on the hill

Mission Two; Abduction
Deployment;    Dawn of War
Victory Conditions; Capture and Control
The Catch; Before the Game one HQ choice from your army is handed over to the enemy (If you have a character and retinue only the character is handed over). This character is attached to an enemy squad and is moved with them, but is also an objective. Any shooting against the escorting squad must be allocated against the character as per the normal allocation rules. The character can be freed buy wiping out the escorting squad and having a friendly model within six inches. At which point the character can act as normal yet still counts as an objective.

Mission Three; Reconnoitering the Rim
Deployment; Dawn of War
Victory Conditions; Seize Ground
The Catch; There are four objectives, these are the four table quarters (note one unit is permitted to hold a maximum of two Quarters at a time)

Mission Four; The Talisman
Deployment ; Pitched Battle
Victory Conditions: Capture and control
The Catch; Each objective is a mighty talisman beloved by the side that holds it, but is also cursed and each turn D3 models within 3” of the talisman must make a strength test or wither and die.

Mission Five; Killing Floor
Deployment; Table Quarters
Victory Conditions; The player with the most models within 4” of the objective wins
The Catch; There is one objective the Dead Centre of the Table. Unfortunately a small group of Jokaero  have set up a tea party under a impenetrable force field right on top of it . At the start of your turn roll a dice for each of your units within four inches of the marker. 1-2”Fling Poo”, The unit is at -1 Int and Ld for the rest of the turn as they are pelted by Jokaero unmentionables . 3-4 “Watch this” the unit takes D6 strength 3 AP- shots as one Jokearo shows off. 5-6 “Have some Tea” The unit is at +1 Strength and Toughness but -1 WS and BS as they drink the potent Tea. Jokaero love vehicles (mainly for parts) so any vehicle coming within the four inch threshold will take D3 shots, the first and third shots counting as a lascannon the second as a multi melta.

Secondary Missions
The idea of a secondary mission is to earn you more points, at the start of each game you can trade a can to purchase a secondary mission you do not have to tell your opponent  what it is (but you do have to tell me) to increase the chances of success. However fortune favours the bold you can announce the secondary mission to your opponent to make it worth double the points on offer. Only one mission per game and each mission can only be chosen once per tournament.
Secondary Missions
“Off with the head” Kill opposing players HQ choice(s) +1VP

“They are not that good” Kill opposing players Elites choice(s) +1VP

“Slow them down” Kill opposing players Fast Attack choice(s) +1VP

“Take out the big guns” Kill opposing players Heavy Support Choice(s) +1VP

“Gather around me” Chose one HQ Choice he must survive the game +1VP

“Over There” Get one unit in enemy deployment zone at the end of the game +1VP

“Keep them out” Have no enemy units in your deployment zone at end of game +1VP

“Capture that point” Nominate one piece of terrain you must have at least one of your models in that terrain and no enemy models within it at end of game +1VP

“Wipe them out …. All of them” Completely wipe out opponents army +2VP
