What-ho Chaps!

The call has been heard and I shall not disappoint; at this years Can Opener I shall sally fourth my Warband and make a...

Return to Mordheim

The tourney of the year is back!

Which may sound bold, and maybe even cocky, but just ask the participants of last years event what the hot mumble was all about to see what thou miss'd!

Date:

The Eighteenth Day of the Month of June the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Eleven.

Registration cut off is the Twelfth Day of the Month of June which be a Saturday so I can sort out things the following day at the club.

Cost:

$10 and three cans of food.

Tourney Rules

Only Warbands from the main rules book may be used unless I, the Tourney Organizer, make an exception.

Return to Mordheim will be run in an informal style with fix'd warbands that gain no experience.

The rules used will be those as read in the rule book under the heading "Fighting Individual Battles" on page 165.

Strictly one on one games play'd on a four foot by four foot table.

The Gold limit will be 1000gc. This will give enough men or skills to make the games exciting. 500gc is just to small to hold the interest in a tourney with no experience upgrades, treasure, trading etc...

This tourney will be strictly battle orientated:

A win/loss system will be the order of the day on a ladder table: An opponent will only be played once.

Four games shall be played - plus the Finals, where just like last year, first on the ladder plays second, third plays fourth etc...

There are no draws in Mordheim; it isn't an option at all.

A prize will also be awarded for the most enemy kills through-out the tourney across all games. e.g. if you play four games and kill ten warriors in those four and the other competitors get less, you win. A tally chart will be used to keep a record... simple stuff really.

A time limit of 55 minutes per game will be in place.

How-ever! For those incredible games that sees two warbands of equal stature locked in a bitter struggle to the end, e.g. no-one is failing a rout test, a Victory Points system will be put in place.

If there are an odd number of participants a bye will have to happen I'm afraid. Sad, but, well, there it is.

Time-table:

I shall most likely be arriving at half past the hour of eight or there-abouts to set up the tables and fight off the other gamers participating in lesser systems who have suddenly realized the error of their ways! Cheesy

All times are approximate:

9:15 Introduction - So, what is this"Mordheim" game anyway?
9:30 First game
10:25 Morning tea
10:40 Second game
11:40 Third game
12:35 Luncheon
1:05 Fourth game
2:05 THE FINALS!
3:15 or so: Prize giving

Scenarios!

Each match, across all tables simultaneously, will be played using one of the following scenarios which will be determined by my own reckoning on the day:

Street-fight
Defend The Find

Two of my own devising:

Capture the Cannon
Recruitment Drive

The Final shall be Skirmish.

Consult the rules book; ignore the experience and Wyrdstone parts.

One will need:

-$10 fee and three cans
-a fully painted warband (no un-painted models this year!)
-a knowledge of the rules
-a warband roster
-a rule book. If thou have none;
-a knowledge of the rules
-dice
-tape measure
-a winning attitude and a smiley golden face
-a writing tool
-a scrap of paper
-terrain if thou art bringing some
-cans
-a good nights sleep before-hand

The Usage of Cans

This will be fairly simple: one can for one re-roll of a die that you cast. If you wish to force your opponent to re-roll a die, two cans must be used.

How-ever many cans are brought is up to the player bringing them. If one wishes to use no cans through-out the tourney - fine. If one wishes to use many - fine. The main idea of this tourney is FUN.

Other stuff:

Pay careful note to the rules regarding the purchase of Skills on page 165.

Once again - there is NO experience.

Great-weapons and other two handed things that the rule book says strike LAST! do not. If you charge with one of said weapons the charger goes first.

No mounts this year. Horsey's, big rats etc.

No Dramatis Personae are allowed.

Last year Hired Swords were rather good... a little too good. So:

Hired Swords may be Hired. But! Add the gold crown and the upkeep cost together to make a  purchase... then double it! e.g. Pit Fighter: 30gc + upkeep of 15gc = 45gc times two =90gc

Because lets face it, otherwise they are pretty cheap for what you are getting, and the destruction they brought to last years tourney was impressive.

No more than two Hired Swords per warband.

Prizes:

First: $50 voucher from Vagabond in the town
Second: $25 voucher from Vagabond in the town
Destroyer (most kills across all games): Something really good.

The Players:

Lezle - Mercenaries
Andrew - Possessed
Mike - Witch Hunters
Rob Shirley - Skaven
Derick - Lizardmen

Maybe:

Aaron - Skaven

Feel free to register your interest here.

Jolly good!

Huzzah! And so shall it be that the down-trodden, oft-beaten and ill-fortuned Witch-Hunters of Sigmar's Fury made their return to the ruined city of Mordheim!

For Sigmar!

For Frodo!

FOR PONY!

I shall be joining with my possessed once again. Now the only challenge is to finish up the warband Wink

Now for spells, Are we allowed to pick which ones or are they still random like normal?

That's the story fellows!

I like the randomness. That is what we played last year, correct? Saying that though, if one wishes to build a warband around a certain theme I don't see why it should then be random, as one would presume that the wizard would know what he's doing. Cheesy

I think the choice should be up to the individual.

If one wishes to create a warband with a certain spell for every game, or have a laugh and make it random, who am I to impede on a bit of fun?

I'll add the two of you to the players list in the main topic above.

Given that Great Weapons now always-strike-last-always in WHFB, why keep the house rule to make then not always-strike-last in Mordheim?

The answer is:

Because that is how I like it.

Speaking from a biomechanical point of view, just because one has a long sword doesn't mean one suddenly has to play the Patient i.e. wait for ones opponent to attack.

Would be keen on Mordheim too. Always liked the game.

Just a query do Great weapons just strike initiative order or is it on charge?

Also what warbands allowed, just the book, white dwarf, or town cryier?

Sorry if still being decided.

Good question Placator. If you charge with a great weapon you strike first - from then on you strike last always. If you are charged you strike last anyway. Make sense?

Top show, Joel! I'll add you to the list along with Placator.

As for your other question, Daniel, I take your name to be Smiley, If you find a list you wish to use anywhere, send me the link (they are all free on a website which Andrew knows the address of,) and I'll say yay or nay.

For there are some really un-fun warband rosters out there kids; Paul's Dark Elves... Shadow geezers... or what-ever they were from last year spring to mind. Undecided

Yes, I think that be a goodly idea... how-ever! It must come at a price!

Maximum of two spells; second spell 50gc.

Suite everyone?

Feel free to offer a different opinion.

Just a question over spells. Are they not generated just like getting skills?

Also is it possible to give a hero spellcasting if they don't already have it, as long as they have academic as a skill branch?

Placator : From above:

"I like the randomness. That is what we played last year, correct? Saying that though, if one wishes to build a warband around a certain theme I don't see why it should then be random, as one would presume that the wizard would know what he's doing.

I think the choice should be up to the individual.

Either choose which spells you want, or roll in each game on the appropriate table.

Yes. You may have a hero with the Academic box ticked choose the spell skill. Makes him rather pricey though, doesn't it! Undecided  Smiley

I was reffering to the question of price over spells, i.e like skills so same price as skilss 40GP. It realyy doesn't matter to much to me was just after clarification. Sorry for the confusion from my post.

So would giving a character a spell cost 40Gp for the spell casting skill, and then 50Gp for a spell. Total 90Gp, I agree mite be too much investment in one character.

Thank you for the help.

Have you found a warband you wish to use, or are thinking about using?

I am keen to play but will have to see how I am placed closer to the time.
My Estalia Which Hunters Have heard rummers of foul things afoot and may be sent to investigate.

Not sure on this so thought I would ask.

Its says in the rules rare items can be purchased at the price stated so what price do you use for say eg. Bugman’s Ale 50+3D6 gc ?

Thanks Johnny

Good-day,

I am keen to have you as a participant.  Smiley

Just let me know closer to the time and I'll add you to the list.

Great question!

I believe this rare item business came up last year at the last minute; I shall rule: Half.

E.g. Let us use the case in hand - 3d6 is the price; a maximum of eighteen can be rolled, nine is half, and therefore 9gc shall be added to the items cost. So the total would be 59gc.

Sound fair?

 Shocked

The Champion returns!

Allright, Aaron... but you realize that if you pull-out I'm going to call you selfish - Mordheim beckons! Don't let a little thing like having a baby stand in your way of further conquest! Wink

Thou shalt be PENCILED in in 1H pencil.
