Tom Baker was an awesome doctor. Then I went off it. David Tennant did well. Still unsure about the new one.
BTW, just a bit of trivia. Llala Ward, who played Tom Bakers side kick in Doctor Who, went on to marry Richard Dawkins and has even recorded some audio books with him (Richard that is, not Tom).

A friend of mine is a total Dr Who fan.
As a result I have the whole series... as in all of them (1200+ episodes)
Some of the early one were 'lost' or badly damaged. So all there is are still shots with voice over, bit like a radio play.

Wiki
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. As of 25 December 2010, 770 individual episodes, including one television movie of Doctor Who have been aired, encompassing 213 stories. Additionally, four charity specials and two animated serials have been aired, and two short sequences—"A Fix with Sontarans" and "Attack of the Graske"—were produced and involved the interaction of a viewer; the former was a segment of Jim'll Fix It and latter was a fully-interactive adventure. The show's high episode count resulted in Doctor Who holding the world record for the highest number of episodes for a science-fiction programme.[1] For comparison, the Guinness World Record holder for the highest number of consecutive episodes, Stargate SG-1,[1] aired 214 episodes.
Each story in the original series (1963–1989) is a multi-episode serial, with two exceptions: the 1965 cutaway episode "Mission to the Unknown"; and the 20th anniversary story The Five Doctors. The characters in the column after the serial titles indicate the code used by the production team to designate the serial, where applicable, and are followed either by the titles of the individual episodes where given or by the number of episodes otherwise. Unless otherwise noted, episodes in this period are 25 minutes long. During the early seasons of the programme most serials were linked together and one would usually lead directly into the next. Starting with the 2005 revival, the production team abandoned the traditional serial format for a largely self-contained episodic format with occasional multi-part stories and loose story arcs. Unless otherwise noted, the new episodes are 45 minutes long.
Additionally, some other subsets of serials and episodes exist. Some are unmade: they were proposed for a variety of reasons, some even reaching post-production, but not broadcast. Some episodes from the 1960s are missing due to the BBC's 1970s junking policy, and thus their serials are incomplete. In the first two seasons and most of the third, each episode of a serial had an individual title; no serial had an overall on-screen title until The Savages. The serial titles given below are the most common title for the serials as a whole, used in sources such as the Doctor Who Reference Guide and the BBC's classic episode guide, and are generally those used for commercial release. The practice of individually titled episodes resurfaced with the show's 2005 revival, when Doctor Who's serial nature was abandoned in favour of an episodic format.
The three-digit story numbers are not official designations but are merely to serve as a guide to where the story stands in the overall context of the programme. There is some dispute about, for example, whether to count Season 23's The Trial of a Time Lord as one or four serials,[2] and whether the uncompleted Shada should be included.[3] The numbering scheme used here reflects the current internal practice of describing "Planet of the Dead" (2009) as the 200th story, used in the official magazine's 407th issue.[4] Other sources, such as the Region 1 DVDs of classic Doctor Who serials, use different numbering schemes which diverge after the 108th story, The Horns of Nimon (1979–1980).

1200+ I may have exaggerated that a bit
But if your really keen want I can do a file count later and let you know.
Some of the stories were 10 - 12 episodes long. Minimum was a about 4.
I've been watching them in sequential order, though I've skipped a few that were too badly damaged.
I am also a Fan of stargate, star trek, babylon 5, farscape, Battlestar Galactica etc...
I guess pretty much all sci fi series I guess.

my gran who was at the time 70 was a huge fan of ds9 she really liked the costumes . and followed the plot closely as well . i remeber going for a visit to see her once and i thoungh she could not change the channle on her tv till she gave me a play by play of the last 4 or 5 weeks worth of epesiods . followed by going on about the costumes and make up
it was brilliant it became somthing we talked about till the end of the serise. i think we even watched the last one together

trek goes normally for about 7 season with about 20 eps per season. this excludes enterprise and the original series.
only one that made 7 seasons where Next gen, voyager, Deepspace 9 but it did can caned in season 3 and brought back after a few years.
I dont see them making any more star trek in a while.
And SGU has been canned after 2 seasons what really sucks.
They love canceling all the good sifi stuff and putting more crap on for teen girls.

picard... 'lets engage in a dialogue with the borg number 1'
kirk...'spock, damn your logic, lets kick their arses and sleep with their women.'
now thats why kirk rules. in the original series and the re make. he rules.
nah, i just cant face having SG1/SGU/SG atlantis/ SGwhogivesarat
sarse in my top 10. plus, it annoys laz cause i know how much he likes it.....

Kirk the character was more interesting than Picard, but Shatner was terrible compared to Stewart. Picard as a character was really a little boring, but Patrick Stewart did such a good job with him that he was better. I have TNG on DVD but never bothered with TOS for the exact reasons Laz pointed out. I like cheese as much as the next guy (sheesh! I even have all four Resident Evil movies) but the original series, although some awesome story lines, was so cheesy it would turn me lactose intolerant.
As for Stargate. It took a couple of seasons for me to see past McGyver and see O'Neil (what is it with him and Irish ancestry?). It was a good series, but you're right Richard, it got a little silly towards the end. Probably because they needed a new antagonist and the Ori were pretty lame. They probably should have stopped at seven seasons rather than go through to ten. It would still make my top ten though. And I'm sorry, I know there are a lot of Babylon 5 fans out there, but it did nothing for me. I was given the entire series to watch from a mate and got through half of the first season and gave up. Same with Farscape (of which two of the lead actors incidentally went on to Stargate SG1's later seasons - crap, I'm such a geek - I' stopping now).

Farscape that is so in my top ten that kicked ass.
True to them failing the last 2 season of SG-1. they should have stopped at season 8 and not done 9 and 10. But Atlantis i say turned out to be very good, if you have watched it a few times like i have you will see alot of things you miss first time round.
Random how the two farscape actors got in them but i still say that chick is hot.
Also if people have noticed alot of the sifi stuff of late has Zena in them. I am sure she is in caprica shows her face in battle star and in SGU also in no ordinary people. Sifi Slut!!
