I have a new army concept I would like to put in the works for Guard. Based off a WWII Panzer-grenadiers regiment, I plan on using a lot of bits to make them look more authentic but that aren't using Citadel products. Here's an example:

Using this under the rules of a Chimera I plan on changing the weapon placements to where the rules state, such as the machine gun next to the main armament to being hull-mounted at the front and counting as a Heavy Bolter. Then to give it a more of a 40k edge, replace the turret with a Chimera Multi-laser turret.

Is this allowed to be used in a tournament?

Here's a slightly less obvious example, I have a Chimera chassis, give it FW armored side skirts, add sand bags to the front, add a bit of plasta-card to make it less angled and pop a Tiger tank 88mm turret on top. It looks like a Tiger and because of It's heavy armament and extra armour, would I get away with using it as a Leman Russ Demolisher?

Its no problem as gw dont run tournies anymore. But (being gamey here) chimeras have 12 10 10 armour. If your vehicle is thin, it is sooooo easy to get those side armour hits going down at av 10. Just something to consider maybe lol:)

It depends on the thickness of card. The thin stuff is pretty flexible.

Ok, I now know where to get everything I need apart from german helmets, with the face showing (so no Pig Iron heads). I've tried looking through several hobby stores but in the end I'm more focused on something that has already been made for 40k (or at least its scale).
Anyone keen to point me in the right direction?

Oh, and no DKoK. I'd need to buy whole kits just to get heads.

I've got an idea of the sort of lists I'm looking at for this army. Something with lots of tanks, mechanized infantry units, heaps of anti-tank, a few experimental units thrown in there too to represent Germany's testing with science and maybe one or two units that can outflank when the need arises. I started off with something quite basic that I could build off from but that also incorporates all the units I'm looking to have in my force.

HQ

Company Command Squad: 155 points
Power Weapon
Vox-caster
4 Meltaguns
Carapace Armour
Astropath
(Chimera): 55 points
Hull-mounted Heavy Flamer

*This unit is designed to move up with the main force of infantry but also help with my reserve rolls and outflanking units.

Elites

Storm Trooper Squad: 168 points
(+3) Storm Troopers
Power Weapon
2 Plasmaguns
(Chimera): 55 points
Hull-mounted Heavy Flamer

Storm Trooper Squad: 168 points
(+3) Storm Troopers
Power Weapon
2 Plasmaguns
(Chimera): 55 points
Hull-mounted Heavy Flamer

*These two units give me a lot of tactical choices to work with because of they're Special Operations rule. The choice of having them stay in the Chimera, have them outflank to support my troops or deep strike them to meddle with my opponents strategy.

Troops

Veteran Squad: 115 points
Power Weapon
Vox-caster
3 Meltaguns
(Chimera): 55 points
Hull-mounted Heavy Flamer

*These are the main core of my force, move up together in a line with my Leman Russ Demolishers mixed in for support.

Penal Legion: 80 points

*Using these to Outflank and grab objectives or hold my own.

Heavy Support

Leman Russ Demolisher: 165 points

*Modeled after Tiger tanks, move up with the main core of my force along with providing full blown support.

Comes in at: 1821 points, so 29 points to spare.

Cheese is just a code word.

What it really means is they are effective at what they are supposed to do Smiley

I like those plasmagun squads, they will be great again Deathwing / terminator heavy armies, or elite Grey Knights. Heaps of melta being thrown around as well. Keen to see a WIP thread with tank conversions etc.

I'll start off by buying a 500 point lists worth which may have 1 tank. I'll build the army off from there.

Flamers just end up wasting my BS4 units. Only need them on the chimeras.

I've scraped the idea of my original list, having one both largely infantry orientated and plenty of cheap tanks this time. Will post new list soon. Finished my first 'test subject' as you will. (posting it here instead of the painting board as to keep the whole thing together)

What do you guys think:

Nifty model and a very nice paintjob. The weapon looks unfortunately out of scale though.

I agree with Nick - the weapon is huge!

Then, I agree with Damion - I.G. blokes have hands bigger than their faces! Cheesy

Looks good. What is the model anyway?

Hmm, the first photo doesn't help with the size of the gun (right in your face) but it's actually only just bigger than a lasgun. It's 40k scale.

About the build:
Legs, torso and arms are cadian. The gun's base is a lasgun with an ammo cartridge from a rogue trader space marine boltgun and some pinning meterial from the GF9 pack (the gun is as close as I could model to an MP44). Grenade is also made from said pinning meterial and green stuff. Large pouches from orks, smoke grenade from guard vehicle sprue and head is from Westwind. Rest is just mixed stuff from cadian infantry sprue.
