So a quick question on these guys.
Pistol and CC or swap for Shoota?
In context im looking @ a Blood Axe list from GrumpyCon - Orks pretending to be Marines - eg 10 man squads in Truks etc

did some websearch
apparently shootas all the way
choppa isnt as awesome as it once was
basially you give up range and rate of fire for 1 extra attack in CC
general feeling is that shoota gives up options, can still beat down in melee, but can sit on an objective and pew pew dakka dakka ping

Shootas are only better on paper, and if you're looking at smaller squads running around in trukks, they will do you little good. pistol+ccw in that situation.
You want shootas if the unit will be milling around in midfield, and is generally quite a bit larger (20-30). These shootas will never achieve much, but create a large threat bubble that people will be cautious to bring infantry into.
The biggest problem with shootas is that often when you're looking to get within 18 inches, you're better to push forward with a waagh and assault that turn anyway.
Remember that a lot of the reading you come across on the internet is from people who just talk about playing, and never actually play. They think that a unit of 30 will be shooting with all models (which is rubbish, it will usually only be about 12-15), and they don't do much dynamic thinking in terms of distances and options.
I have shootas on my 2 big 30 mobs as they do a lot of midfield milling, but more often than not I would be much better served by pistol/ccw. I have pistol/ccw on my trukk mob, and have never once regretted this decision.

tis always good to have some insightful feedback
my boyz will certainly be burning around in trukks (rhinos)
i terms of theme I do prefer the idea of the shootas, but i dont want to gimp myself in game terms
