Where: Ponsonby Pool Hall
When: Sunday 13th from 6:00 to 9:00
Cost: $15 per player
Why: raise fund for CHCH quake relief fund
Game formats: its pool Smiley
what to bring: Dice and Toy soldiers not required, all equiptment provided

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Plate

How it works
Qualifying round:
Players will be split into 4 groups (4 or 5 depending on numbers)
Each player plays the other member of their set, best of 3.
The players of each set are ranked 1 thru 5.
In the event of a tie, coin toss(or dice roll off to determine place).

Those that place 1 or 2 in their set will play in the cup
Those that place 3 or 4 will play in the plate
Those that place 5 will play in the bowl

The following rounds will be elimination rounds, best of 3.
The final round will be best of 3 or 5, players choice.

Rules:
There are no penalties (except for those specified here), No 2 shots.
If you 'miscue', bad luck.
If the white is on the cushion, you can't move it out, shoot from the position.
If the white is sunk, the ball is played from anywhere in the 'D' and can shoot backwards.
If you are on the black, you are expected to make a fair attempt.
If you are on the black and you sink the white, you lose.
If you are not on the black and you sink it, you lose.
It you sink your ball, before the black is sunk (on the same shot) you win.
If you sink your opponents ball, at any time, no penalty.
(so if your opponent attempts to block the pocket with his ball and you sink it, no penalty, even if you are on the black)
If you hit your opponent's ball, or the black ball, before your ball and your ball goes in, you don't get another shot.
If you lose by 7 Balls, the rule is that you buy your opponent a drink of their choice(we don't need to see you dance).
If balls are moved accidently by hand, or by cue slip move back to approx position. Its a hard call, just be carefull.
Any rule query check with Derick

Just a follow-up to give everyone some info about what were going to do with the money:

Ponsonby Pool Hall Owners are giving us use of the tables for free
(Thank you Elias and Paddy)

I have been approached to contribute these funds to a specific fund connected to the Christchurch appeals.
Below is some information re the Sumner area and what some good people are doing down there to help keep the kids together and have some schooling.

We are trying to give some ‘Targeted Practical Assistance’ to the residents of Sumner, linking schools, businesses, sports groups etc to the town and seeing how each group can assist the other.
The town has major damage to the infrastructure . They have some power and some water but no sewerage system.
The bank account we are depositing funds into is the Sumner Residents Association account which is the Welfare group formed for this disaster including the local – Fire Service, Police, Coastguard all working together to help the residents.  Westpac 03-1599-0097463-02
Sumner School has 12 classes in total, it is to be re-accessed as far as soundness goes.  School currently is closed,  a field school has been set up running in a paddock with tents running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. They have no power so no access to information.
Van Asch deaf school suffered damage families camping on grass.  They are awaiting ministry assessment.
Both school grounds are being used for helicopters to bring in food.
I have been communicating with Stephan Dujakovic from the Welfare group. He says it is real nerve racking driving on the roads that are able to be used.
They are going to have a community meeting on how to rebuild Sumner.  Library is red stickered, council building is red stickered similar to our Anzac Road building lots of clubs have lost there place to be.  Lots of people are loosing hope.
Stephan says he feels privileged to have been part of his community for this disaster in regards to how they are pulling together.
Stephans email is  stephen2d@yahoo.co.nz  he would love to hear from you. Or phone on 0274 568 177  they would love to hear from the schools.
Stephan works for telecom in the design area and is coming up to AKL sometime soon and would love to meet some of the people from Browns Bay who are assisting their town.

From the Herald Tuesday 8th
By Monday the refugees are sick of being victims. The Redcliffs citizens' centre is collecting information and publishing it in a newsletter. A similar centre springs up in Sumner.
There, Stephane Dujakovic, 36, and Kate Proudlock, 30, have opened the old school hall and are organising information and supplies. Most importantly, they have created a base for children.
On Tuesday, after the two minutes' silence to remember those who died, the field is filled with children playing games.
"We're just desperate to give the kids some routine," says Debby Schefer. Teachers have stepped forward and parents have signed up children for unofficial classes in English, maths and other subjects. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in tents on the school field donated by a refugee agency.
There is no criticism of the official effort. It is accepted that the need is too huge to meet perfectly and that communities need to help themselves.

It was fun, we didn't get a big turnout there were a total of 10 people
We raised a sum of $155 for the CHCH earthquake victims

The important thing was we enjoyed ourselves, it was a really social event.
Daryl and Bill showed us they knew one end of the pool cue from the other,
Phil and Nick showed us they should stick to dice as a weapon of choice.
Gavin came in first and graciously offered his prize (box of chocies) to the girls.

Next time we organise something like this, I'll try to give more warning and have it at a more convenient time for more people.

The Fantasy players totally outclassed the 40k players. Cool
Considering they never turned up, just shows they knew they were beaten before they started. Angry

How's that for talking it up? maybe next time they'll turn up and we'll raise more money for whatever the next natural disaster is  Grin
