Battlefront Miniatures of New Zealand have decided to drop Maelstrom Games as a retailer and so, accordingly, Maelstrom cannot obtain Flames of War, Gale Force Nine or Wargames Illustrated anymore.

the reason is, Battlefront is piss off about Maelstrom games giving us 15% discount with free shipping, so they stop them from selling their product.

sad news really, although I don't play flame of war but I really like Galeforce nine modelling material and gaming aids and I always get them from Maelstrom games... now I don't know where I can buy them..

They probably sell them cheaper than battlefront did themselves, meaning they get more wholesale sales than retail, and we all know where the real money is.....

I think this is why GW have a bunch of 'direct only' kits. Most business' will realise when they are cheating themselves out of potential sales, and with your average CEO's wage, that's not going to carry on for long before they do something.

BUT they charge for shipping Roll Eyes

But they have a very good website and a massive line of products.they give a discount if you sign up to there e-mail list.

I have ordered stuff from Wayland Games before and the postage was minimal, they calculate your postage for you before you have to commit to a purchase so you can always check it first before you decide to buy.

The last time I ordered the Hellpit Abomination (which is not small) and some paints and magic cards magnets and some other hobby crap and the postage was only 3 pounds!

With the slightly cheaper price than Maelstrom it worked out about the same cost as buying at Malestrom, or maybe a few pence cheaper overall.

It's a great alternate site if you cant get what you want you want from Maelstrom.

I've had a couple of dealings with Wayland - have some stuff on pre-order. They seem pretty great, decent and community focused.

From everything I've heard, the BattleFront&Maelstrom thing is more about Maelstrom claiming to be a B&M store but focusing its sales pretty exclusively around being a webstore.
...and BF don't support webstores (which is a great thing for a company to do... just a bit unfortunate for us kiwis).

I just changed the BattleCry to BattleFront as I believe it was a typo

the whole story is up on Maelstrom website.
including emails between the 2 owners and letter from the lawyer.. everything is there, so you can check it out.

it is all about the money.. nothing but money.

I've read it.

Though I'm not sure I would trust anyone who puts anything serious (or long) on the internet to defend themselves.
- Maelstrom have a vested interest in being the good guys, BF have a vested interest in supporting clubs stores and other places where thier games will be played and sold.

I'm sure lies and half-truths will/would be spread by both sides.

Sad news.

I know John M at Battlefront very well.

I have known Rob Lane for many years, even before Maelstrom.

I don't want to offer an opinion, when I don't know all the facts, but I would suggest decisions were made for good reasons (and reading between the lines I think I know what they are).

While I don't play FOW, I respect Battlefront's position. Their stuff, their business etc. I don't know, I'd be far more up in arms if GW stopped selling to Maelstrom, but hey.
