There are now a fair few of us who have bought fleets (or are thinking of buying fleets) for the Spartan Games game system Uncharted Seas.

Part of the appeal is the fairly low cost of entry into the game (especially if you buy from Maelstrom games, where it will cost you between 17 and 31 pounds for a playable starter fleet) and the simple and easy to learn game mechanics.

Anyway, I think there's enough interest to get a small campaign going.

The plan would be:
* Start on Feb 27th. This gives interested players ~6 weeks to find some spare cash, order a fleet and have it assembled in time. It's also after BattleCry!
* Fleets of ~450 points (basic starter fleets)
* Playing every weekend for 4 to 6 weeks, depending on interest

The campaign mechanic would be simple and map based.
* Using the Uncharted Seas map, place players starting tokens in squares roughly equidistant from each other.
* Each player can capture one square per turn by moving their token into it. When a player attempts to capture a square owned by another player, a game is played. The winner of the game owns the square.
* Some squares are occupied by pirates or other NPC races, and are only captured on a 3+. Alternatively, if there is another player present who would like to play a game then they can step in and play a game on behalf of the NPC fleet.
* Games would be limited to a certain number of turns, or time, so that we could get 2 games as well as all the moving around the map into an afternoon

Players aim to gain points, the player with the most points at the end wins.
* 1 point for every square you own
* 1 point for every game you lost
* 2 points for every game you drew
* 3 points for every game you won (excluding against NPCs, which are 2 points)

There are plenty of ideas about campaigns, tournaments and scenarios on the Uncharted Seas forum, which we could use to spice up the games once people get comfortable with the rules.

So, are any of you interested?

P.S Spartan Games are awesome enough to provide all the race specific rules as pdf downloads for free, as well as cut out cardboard fleets for the Orcs and Iron Dwarves, for those who are keen to give it a try but don't want to commit to spending the money

450 point might be a bit small.
These are the base points values for the starting fleets:

Dragon Lords: 475
Iron Dwarves: 480
Orc Raiders: 470
Imperial Humans: 455
Thaniras Elves: 455
Shroud Mages: 455
Bone Griffons: 470

Yep, I took that into account. I think that if the 455 points fleets stay as they are, and the larger fleets drop a frigate (~25 points) then we get more of an even points balance

Sounds good. Also wondering, since you mentioned about the basic starter fleets does that mean we can't edit our lists say as to take out a few frigates and replace them for another unit the same price or drop the battleship for other units. (still sticking to legal force organization of course)

Here's a list I was hoping to use:

Iron Dwarves

Forge Class Battleship: 120 points

2 Hammer Class Cruisers: 100 points

3 Mortis Class Frigates: 105 points

2 Chisel Class Destroyers: 90 points

Belcher Submarine: 35 points

That comes in at 450 points. Would you allow this?

Lols.
unless things have changed, legal force organisation barely exists in the game :p

If people do have other models then sure, they should be allowed to use them, I just wanted to make it clear that 1 starter set would be enough to play.

I've read about fleets of 30 frigates - that'd be hilarious!

Go for it Smiley
If you have models which use the extra rules for submerging or flying, you'll need to read up on them and bring them along so you can show them to your opponent Smiley

There is a force organization but it's just for tournaments and the likes.

Option 3 in the Composition pages:

looking over some things lastnite; unless things have changed recently with tournament fleet composition rules, I don't think specials (subs, airships, etc) can be taken unless it's 500pt lists (numbers allowed are based on every complete 500pts).

And there's a simple fleet builder that can be downloaded through here: http://forum.spartangames.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3437.0

Hmm, I guess we have 2 options. One is to disallow those models, as I wouldn't want to force new players to buy a starter box as well as an extra blister or 2.
The other, which I prefer, is to allow 1 special per 450pts (basically, 1).

We could 'escalate' the league.

Run it at 450pts for the first few weeks, after which players can (if opponents agree) 'expand' to 500pts - 500pts being when (IIRC) specials come in.

It states in the comp that each special model fits into a class out of three, Class 1: for every 600pts you may select 1 special sqd, Class 2: for every 500pts and Class 3: for every 300pts. I included the sub in my list for the reason that it only required an amount of 300pts (class 3) to be fielded.

@Hunter_Flood - good stuff, problem solved. Class 3 specials are in!

So, is anyone else interested at all?
Has anyone got multiple fleets that they could lend out for this event?
Does anyone know any non-cityguarders who might be interested in playing?

I've told Damon (plays Warmachine at club occasionally), who owns some Bone Griffons; might be able to pull in a Shroud Mages player too.
...am half heartedly trying to convince another two people to pick up the game also.

I don't have a spare fleet (beyond the unbuilt one I'm selling), but IIRC the have downloadable cutout fleets on the site?

@HarasinCreed: nik or hunter might be able to hook you up with a demo game in the coming weeks?
- I'd be interested to watch, I've only played two patch starter games. (I'll be bringing that sub in for Hunter this Sunday...hint hint)

Sweet. BTW, if Lezle isn't still interested in the Human fleet mind if I take it off your hands as well? Though of course he still takes precedence if he is interested. The more players the better.
I have also told a friend that may be interested in the hobby, mostly because he doesn't make a lot of money and I said it would be perfect for him. Going to give him a test game sometime soon.

I shall endeavor to purchase a fleet.

I have made my fleet out of Lego.

Yes, you read that right. I shall not walk in shame.

Feel free to sell the fleet to James.

Thank you

Lego? Hope you've got that to scale, you don't want ships the size of Land Raiders.

Fear not! I followed the 13cm, 8cm, and 4cm length scale. I hate centimetres.

The great thing about this is that with a bit of imagination, some number eight wire, and a good old kiwi can-do attitude, I can make any race that I wish to! Hoorah!

Ok i would like to play a game this Sunday if the number of people is ok if uneveness is a problem i wont play. I have not played before so i am clueless as to how it works. Also i would need to borrow your other fleet if i could James and if it is possible get a lift back with you. If none of these things will workout that is fine i will stay home and have a cry instead.
