Has anyone else spotted Spartan games latest offering? http://www.spartangames.co.uk/dystopian_wars.htmlSomething about this setting gets my attention much more than their other games, Firestorm Armada and The Uncharted Seas. What makes this game for me is the fact it isn't just a ship game, you can play games at sea, on land, or in the air. And I'm guessing that if you made half your gaming table the ocean, you could combine all three in one game. And while I like the fleets so far, (especially the pre-dreadnought look the Brits have got going) it's the ground aspect of the game that's got the potential to hook me in. http://www.spartangames.co.uk/dystopian_wars_previews.htmlSomething about those tanks and landships calls out to the part of me that used to play Epic years ago,(Space Marine that is, not that B&%%#*!T Epic 40k travesty) and misses pushing little tanks and gargants around a table. Did I mention that there are airships packing tesla coils. How cool is that!

Steampunk wargame!?!? Awesome!!! Might consider picking up a rulebook, but I'm not in a position to buy too many new miniatures at the moment

They do look interesting... but what is the scale, I couldn't work it out.

The scale is 1/1200.
I was nosing around BGG and found out that the Brit landship is around 65mm long, and 49mm wide. And the Prussian zeppelin/carrier is 142.5mm long

Thanks for that. The size gives me some sort of prespective. I always find it laughable when people say 1/1200 or 1 to whatever as if the thing actually existed and this was modelled on it. I know its to give a concept of scale, but ... it is fantasy

I guess one good thing about game designers attaching a scale to a fictional range is that it kind of gives a starting point for designing terrain and buildings.

I know of a couple of guys who have been following the game spoilers with interest.
My only worry with the game is how land and sea mightbe/are integrated. - You have to fully set out the table before you can consider armies, etc. Whereas with US or FA you can play the same army on any table.
The minis do look especially sweet though.

It looks just like Uncharted seas but in space.

I've got a couple of FA ships, a couple of guys have started playing it down in Hamilton.
As Hunter_Flood said, it's US in space (so missing a couple of rules - wind, diving, LoS, collisions; and with a few extras thrown in for good measure - shields, fighter wings). Unlike US (and like DW) it uses a generic 'magic/orders' card deck too.

Umm, I think this is the rule book that Chris and Richard showed me on Sunday. They are thinking about running a demo at BattleCry and playing some at the club. Looks cool!

I would get in behind that. ...works out quite reasonably too. Though what fleets would everyone take? I keep looking at the British, but can't quite get beyond Prussia and my memories of Red Alert tesla coils awesomesauce.

If I were going to play I'd pick the empire of the rising sun, or whatever the Japanese equivalent is called. That's quite unusual for me as normally I automatically gravitate to one of the 'good' races. Unfortunately I can't really commit to a new game system at the moment

Finished some of my ships today. Neato. I've ordered a megabundle. Will be selling surplus fleets when I've figured out which one I want (most likely KoB). I know of atleast another 4 wanting in on the game.

where do you guys order/buy the models? when and where do you play? You pretty much have to order it from overseas; but as I understand it, most of the players at club have now 'quit' the game ... Spartan Games have great ideas, but suffer from some beer&pretzel gaming issues.

I wouldn't mind playing if a group of us got back into it. Uncharted Seas has kind of gone downhill with us.

This pretty much sums it up. The minies are beautiful, and we really tried to like the game, but yeah. Just too many things we didn't like about how it plays.
