My test subject for my Pre-heresy Emporers Children:
Lucius Swordmaster

I finally got a decent look with the whole NMM after like a year of trying
So other stuff iv been working on in all my free time

doesn't look too over-exposed just out of focus.  this is where the depth-of-field stuff Tuatara posted comes into play Smiley

nice hack at the NMMs, for lucius i'd just suggest highlighting all the way to skull-white on the gold bits.  but i guess you've still got a bit to, he's looking great so far

Thanks for the nice comment (HACK,HACK i say;D) but as to the going up to white on the gold ive done that previously and it always just comes out looking yellow for some reason but ill give it a go on the next model. Should have some picks up tonight.

it only has to be subtle - just small dots of bright highlight, light reflections sort of thing.

I see from another thread that you got the AS18K airbrush set fro The Train Depot. I'm looking at getting an airbrush setup, is it any good?

Based on my limited knowledge of what is good and bad id say it works really well. So i would recommend it. But you should but a new dropper something alot smaller because i found i was using like 2 times what i  needed and i just couldnt get smaller quantities of paint with the one they supply.

Thanks for the feedback.
Juiced i also used to find my banners came out pretty average but i find if i get artwork someone else has drawn or painted it helps alot because i can then see where the hightlights shading goes etc.

And Lazarus this was anitially going to be my golden demon entry but i only started it a week after entries closed. Undecided

Mold lines need to be gone. Pics are a bit bad so cant really see the paint job but they are sticking out. I would recommend getting rid of them it will make all the difference.

Love your freehand work, it's top-notch. But the mold lines and spur points really hurt the overall feel of your stuff. You just pull your miniatures off the spur, or twist them, don't you? you need to clip and file dude. Your painting is to good to let mold lines ruin the vibe of your work Smiley

The thing is im too poor to buy the models new so 90% of this stuff someone else pulled of the sprue as to the mold lines, ya my bad. But im not going to be going over and redoing them so they will have to do.

P.S. love the word vibe, but no one in NZ seems to use it

nah man, use vibes all the time

for dealing with peep's shitty rough second hand models; turn it into battle damage Smiley

mold lines really should be attacked though

everything is looking great man, a real step up from your Legion of the Damned army

So i was looking through a whole lot of 40k pics and came across this Sanguine picture

and it was the first time ive seen sanguine and been like "cool that really looks like an awsome warrior not some guy whos been stabbed and is now lying on the floor crying because he didnt learn how to use a sword and now there is like an intire unit dedicated to guarding something about his name and everyone in his whole chapter gets this "black rage" thing which is a curse but is really awsome in game turms." Anyway i decided i would try and build him so this is the first pic ive actually started to build his wings but havent got a photo yet.

More feathers done.

His sword/spear thing

And here is my chapter master i decided to put the banner on his back instead of using it as my objective marker.

AWSOME WINGS Grin i hve never seen such detailed green stuff wings before, out side of white dwarf.
question is how are you keeping the mini balanced, it might need a bigger base?

Thanks Juiced. Funny thing is that right now the weight seems to be working alright and it actually balances. But latter i might just make him a lead base.

That pic is awesome.

Yeah he does look chunkier then a normal marine in that pic. termy armour might do the trick and justify those huge wings.

I was going through my case and came across my Lysander model that i had started to paint a while ago. So i striped him and decided to try out the Zenithal Highlight technique. So here is the start:

Over all quite happy with the technique it did take a while for me to get used to painting onto white but i think i understand it now.

After about 7 hours of building and a couple hours of painting my Sanguinous is finished.:

I am also happy to report that i won an award for the Mad Orky convertion challenge down at St. Lukes. No idea what place i came though.
I hope the photos are not sideways when you get to looking at them.
