Yet again, didn't put in the work to make movement trays and let myself drop several placings as a result - six players above me with lower battle points!

Still, got over this after a couple of minutes - I was extremely lucky to be at the top of the tables for much of the tournament in the first place.  Well done to the high placers.

An epic second day for me, and a personal best finish.

Thanks to my opponents who delighted in pummeling me, and those who graciously allowed me to return the favour.

See you all at future events.

Cheers Nick and Mrs Nick and all the helpers

I had a great time and played 6 great games against 6 great opponents.

(Most people say that sort of shit and don't mean it cos they got to play at least one muppett)

I mean it !!!!

N

PS - of course it helped that I managed to dodge anyone who might have been tempted to take themselves too seriously.

I recommend taking a suck army for this very reason  :-)

My results:

Game 1 vs Joe Dixon: 1-19 loss. Beaten by a better player, and some nice rolling (that's my story anyway). Time to submarine!

Game 2 vs Ryan Simister: 17-3 win. Ryan is kind enough to throw 700 points away in the last turn. Thanks again matey! Should make our grudge match interesting in two weeks time.

Game 3 vs Henry Poor: 20-0 win. Unfortunately for Henry, he rolled poor spells and found out the frenzied Nurgle warriors and Chosen (with 4+ ward and stubborn) are the shizzle!

Game 4 vs Nikola Jaksic: 6-14 loss. First three turns I lost 3 units to Gateway. Played cagily after that and scraped it back a smidge. Cracking game.

Game 5 vs Anthony Kitson: 14-6 win. Smashed 'em bro! Win based on the Jugger-tank's ability to refuse to die and some very poor magic phases by the wood elves. Also, warriors tend to like the Watchtower scenario.

Game 6 vs Paul Davidson: 10-10 draw. I was initially nervous facing 250+ rats, HPA, WLC and doomwheel (and dreaded 13th spell). Gave away the Nurgle warriors to shooting, kept the A-bomb honest with lightening and difficult terrain test fails, Chosen survived 2 Dreaded 13th spell attempts and being combo-charged by 14 censor bearers and 5 rat ogres to survive the game with 2 models left. Demon Prince was a hero killing 40 clan rats, WLC and Jezrials. I won by 192ish points, 8 battle points shy of an 11-9 win  Grin

Best tournament I've played in ages, and can't thank my opponents enough for 6 fantastic fun games. Very happy to finish up equal 7th, my best ever final standing.

For what its worth...

Game 1 Vs Vod's Demons. Loss 15-5
I was walking into this expecting to come out with a 20-0 loss.
First mistake I made to to be sucked in by vod's fast moving flankers. I moved my temple guard unit forward to try to get away from being hit in the rear by the great unclean one and a couple of fiends.
Then dwellers went off. Vod rolled a 6. Then I looked at the board and all I could see was the Temple guard was about to get smacked by a unit of bloodletters.
They charged and by turn 3 The slann went down to killing blow.

Game 2 vs Amy's pokemons. Win 13-7
This was a fun game. I got dwellers off on double 6's. Having Vines is great, but not when you roll a 1. This in turn reduced my lvl Slann down to a lvl1, but he was still alive.
Amy's unit was hurt but not too badly.
I was able to bait Amy's big boss unit and keep it away from doing anything useful, while I picked off the rest of her units. The Gorger came on, then faced the devastating  magic of a lvl 1 Slann and got taken out Smiley

Game 3 vs Carl's Lizards Loss 12-8
Its actually good to play against Lizards. We both had Dwellers, but I don't think either of us got it off.
I tried to charge a unit of saurus and a steg into Carls Temple guard. The Steg got in and held him up for about 5? turns before succoming to wounds. Carl keep challenging with his champion, then raising him back from the dead.
On my right flank, a unit of Kroxies and a unit of sallies, beat up a bunch of skinks and chased off a steg (which rallied). On my left some skinks and sallies chewed up a unit of saurus and a unit of Razordons.
It was a good game.

Game 4 vs Rion S's Chaos Loss 19-1
Started off the a dumb deployment mistake. The slann was too far to offer much in the way of leadership support to the rest of the units. Must remember the 12" bubble... one day.
This scenario was random deployment, Rion rolled a lot of deploys on his Right, and when I rolled... yep half my army Deployed on my left.
Rion charged his Dragon ogres down the left flank, into the combined firepower of sali's and Razor's. They shoudl've gone down, I should've rolled better. Instead, he got to charge my salis, after losing combat, the nearby Kroxies ran off the table, the nearby Razor's did the same.
2nd last turn I got off Dwellers on his lord's unit. IF. Enough damage for his lords unit to take a panic. he rolled an 11, then he ran 6", 1" further and he would've bounced through his own unit off the table. This time I did not have vines, but Rion had puppet.
I roll a 3 on the worst outcome, slann pops.
Good game Rion.

Game 5 vs Nicholas's Skaven disguised as Empire Win 11-9
We both roll for Life magic, we both have the option to take dwellers. By mutual agreement, we don't.
I won the toss, but didn't have a core unit of less than 20 models. Nick's unit of 40 spearmen took up residence in the watchtower on turn 1. So I pretty much ignored the
watch tower unit, and picked off a few of his other units. Sallies got off a panic on the unit just about every turn. His stubborn leadership 9 w/- re-rolls from his BSB didn't help me much.
Fun game.

Game 6 vs Russell S's High Elfs Loss 12-8 ?
Pretty tired by this time, didn't see his Dragon lining up for a charge on my steg till it was too late. His archers tried to pincushion me all over the place, it was hard to get into combat, everytime I charged something it'd run away. I had trouble getting a handle on this game, but Russel is always a good sport.

All up good fun, well done Nick

Wicked tournament. Was quite suprised I pulled off 4th after the bad, bad things Jack and his watchtower friend managed to do to me.

Big thanks to Nick and everyone I played. Especially Josh, A: for letting me 19-1 him and B: not murdering me in my sleep afterwards for it.

Cheers Nick - good fun and some interesting learning experiences Smiley

Yeah sorry about those 1s mate - I wasn't reading/understanding anything by that stage. Daryl's Dwarfs were making my brain bleed out my ears; call it mental exhaustion.

My statistical analysis-fu is weak but do these graphs essentially mean:

- people enjoyed themselves

- they were mostly pretty happy with the kinds of lists they saw

- it looks like most people were (on a VERY rough average) happy with the comp/restrictions and don't want to see MORE restrictions introduced

- the majority would be happy to attend another tournament using similar rules

- most people, taking the "comp" system into account were encouraged to attend?

I think a lot of the anger and ranting pre-tournament was largely due to people not understanding how to deal with things that look hard in other people's lists, assuming that nothing can be done, and feeling like they are going to be at a disadvantage.  OR not understanding why the seemingly innocent choices they have made in their own lists were rejected as OTT now that the game works so differently.  That's basically what it broke down to in my books, i'm as guilty as anyone else with regards to the above, and seeing things work in practice really cleared the air.

I'll repeat here what I wrote on my feedback form though, - examples of 'on target' lists should be plentiful and very clear before a tournament, this helps new players and experienced players alike when we are dealing with a new ruleset.  I think that was a fantastic feature of FOB '09 and could have been of great assistance to entrants of FOB '10.

I think the weekend was awesome, I had 6 great games and 6 great opponents and it was good fun.

However, for those who care, this is my 100% honest feeback, I was very unhappy with the unclearly, vaguely writtin guildlines stated in the player pack, and with the large number of vetoed players range from tournament newbloods to longbeards clearly indicated that.

and I personally will not attend another tournament with a similiar playerpack.

Placement's after the three 7th equal finishes should to be increased by 2. For instance, 27 players finished better than me but the list says I'm 26th. It's correct on RankingsHQ.

For FoB Daryl Painter has been logged as using Vampire Counts. He was actually using Dwarfs.

I'll take that Vampire icon thanks Wink

I hadn't announced the RHQ update as I was going to get the normal post tournament news article up as well.

Im very confused by the way the rankings work. When i go into my personal list of tournaments what is the difference between the ones that are highlighted in blue compared to the ones that arent. I thought that the blue ones werent counted for the points but were in the last year, however it does mean that im denied the 50 points from guardcon but get the 35 points from last years fields of blood. can anyone help me understand this complex system.  Smiley
