I might be wrong, but it seems that each version of warhammer had its thing that people typified it as...

6th Hero hammer - tooled up Heroes/Lords

7th Monster hammer - watch out for the dragon or the hydra

8th Magic hammer - Purple sun, Dwellers etc

Any thoughts?

It's much easier to rely on magic now, and magic has greater potential to end the game - so I would somewhat agree.

5th was hero hammer iirc
6th was magic hammer (with the one giant pool)
7th dunno?
8th seems to be infantry hammer to me.

magic although a lot more "powerful" but it is no where near as reliable as it was in 7th or 6th edition.

8th edition is more like "army list" hammer.

8 horde hammer

hving been playing on and off for ages 8th seems to me to be how 4th adn 5th wanted to be and more and evolution of them than 7th
