Wow really nice base, would of love a WIP for it. And more on how you got the static grass to look so nice.

Awesome work. I'm guessing the static grass is the clump foliage/grass tufts from the new sheets from GW. I would like to know how the roots are done

Lazarus: why thank you, and i agree it's not that bad (for a first attempt at least).  i shall post a WIP when i make another one, and maybe, if you are lucky, a tutorial either on here or my (extremely new and currently without posts) blog

Aa7: you are right, i used mainly the smallest ones on the 40k sheet.  however, i am not happy with the way it looks, so i recomend going to this site for higher quality grass: http://www.slavetopainting.co.nz/

juiced: you are correct also. i pulled out some weed/grass roots, gave them a huge wash (you DO NOT want bugs/dirt/parasites etc on there), dried them, and then stuck them onto the base (before priming/painting) using superglue and a substance called superglue activator (also avaible from slave to painting).
...and, er, just so you know, it is miss nosebleeds. i may have brutish looks and boyish tastes, but i am still a female member of the species.  Embarrassed

NeckFace: epic thought! that deserves both a fist and a high five  Grin

Dont take a fence from Juiced comments, it just a rare find that is all. But you do find females better at the painting/modeling side of things than men. Already looks like you showing me up on some things  Grin,

Maybe i am getting to old  Huh

none is taken.  it actually made me laugh a bit, i just thought he should know.  i am aware of the rarity (commonly haunts vagabond/gw when in a city) but i never thought i had a natural edge on the painting/modeling side.  i just thought my mutation caused that. leaves me to question why so many of the great artists and mini painters are guys though.  Huh
and you are NEVER too old.  Grin my kendo sensei tells us that kendo is like climbing a huge mountain, and everybody goes up the slopes at diffrent speeds, and that the speed is never constant, it changes over time.  i figure same goes for painting and modeling right?  Smiley

Great stuff Claire for posting your skills on the forum. Hope you get enough time to paint more and show case some more models soon.

That base does look like you dug up some Tron dirt for reality, so nice choice of colours and real roots Smiley

thanks there! but would you believe i only used washes to achieve the effect (and perhaps a tiny bit of drybrushing too)
and also you are not the first person to say that it looks like it's been dug out of the ground. does it really look that good?

It would not have looked better if you'd photo-shopped it  Wink
