Q1.
How does everyone feel about facing 2 Hell Cannons in a 2400pt games. Bear in mind that they are still STR10 and str5, do get armour saves outside of the hole. They are monstrous so are T6 get 5 attacks plus thunder stomp. When it misfires theres about 15% chance it'll blow up your Archmage, mage, Vamp lord , Slaan etc.
Q2.
Since HC follows rules for monsters and handlers this must over ride the BRB rules on warmachine assaults for HC. So you would treat it as a unit and you would not be limited to the assault party rules?

Sure it may make blocks cry. but thats what you pay for with points.
It has a Less than 33% Hit rate.
Doesn't Move if its shooting.
Can Blowitself Up
Correct It is a Monster, Not a warmachine

IMO
2 HCs = not fine
same as 2 hydras, 2 HPAs.
if these were not allowed in 7th edition, I don't see why they should be allow in 8th.
if you need 2 of these to win, you should play 40k.

Forgetting the (rather good) shooting option of the Hellcannon for a minute, it's freakin nasty as a monster alone. Unbreakable, T6, 5 wounds, Thunderstomp..
. I can throw it at your most expensive unit and watch the grind over 3-4 turns. Then go back and remember that it's a sweet war machine also. Two would be ok if there was a LOT of concessions in the list (like 2 chars, no lord or something), otherwise too tough me thinks.
Chaos have a bunch of sweet rares anyway, why not give a giant/Shaggoth a go?

I think 1x HC and 1x warshrine is a winner
(comp & efficiency considered - you'll need to support your unit(s) of 50x mark of khorne marauders with great weapons anyway, while dropping the HC template on your opponent's unit of the above)

I agree with Josh in some sense though i wouldn't use the word concession, because to be honest, What is a concession under 8th, I don't know exactly that is. It comes down to how the rest of the army is formed. Just having 2 hell cannons does and should not mean that I hate this list automatically.
I would like to see how it plays out first off, rather than condemming it straight away, this is why i said it is fine.
2 trebuchets = fine IMO etc ( which is the same only -2 modifier for armour)
You make good points josh, Though Hellcannon = No armour, compared to the rest of the army. Meaning its my number 1 target for any shooting i have, Warmachines(rocks , bolts , cannons) , Arrows.

The Hellcannon has a 4+ armour save, on par with most monsters. Good points thought Peter.

Hell Cannon is not about just shooting. It's a Monster and it blows up the oppositions mages. It miss fires and eats all its crew, so what it still can fire. At least in 8th when it eats its crew it means it has lost wounds. I have so far seen 3 games where Hell Cannon misfires blows up all mages on the board and the resultant boom has won the game single handed on turn 2 or 3. Hence 2 hell cannon and such filthy true stealth cheese is not acceptable in my book. I scoff at ppl who think an elf on a great eagle is stealth cheese

We played it wrong Phil.
It's a Monster with handlers. Wounds cause on the monster can randomise onto the handlers (5+). Once the handlers are dead it's a Monster Reaction test. You cannot otherwise attack the handlers in any way. So when your chariot charged it - attacks go against the Hellcannons WS/toughness, randomise on the crew... then it eats your chariot and all is well with the world.
It's a nasty piece of kit (and in the few games I've run it I've completely forgotten the Thunderstomp).

My Hellcannon chomped through 37 slaves over about 4 turns against Vaul. Rolled 5,6,6,5 for the Thunderstomps. Take that you rats! And yes, The HC basically just has a 5+ Dwarf save vs shooting/magic.

Phil, Your eagle should be able to delay it a turn,
sure you dont kill it but its 50pts to stop the thing shooting.
So don't run your army at it just an eagle
5 A = 3 Hits = 2 wounds
you lose combat by 1

I personally really, really dislike the direction the Oz warhammer scene has taken over the past years or so (since they started going to the ETC). For some reason, every list I've seen for about 12 months from WAU is absolute filth. This is possibly due to a misrepresentat
ion of players by WAU (which, imho, has is no longer worth visiting due to the trolls and waacy-ness), but I personally hope that the NZ tournament scene remains detached from that kind of gaming.
The day discussions like 'Is 2 HC, etc acceptable in my Gateway/uber list acceptable?' is the norm in NZ is the day I stop playing Warhammer.
By refusing to bandwagon jump, the NZ warhammer community has shown maturity and a dedication to the game remaining fun for all, an attitude that may not return to Oz for a long time. Let's hope it stays that way.

To be fair, I for one use them as a sounding board to remind me when the thing that seems cool in my own head isn't just dumb/broken/etc. If you think the list is as soft as butter and are happy with it, why post it up?

so hc gets thunder stomp useing the indy list chaos dwarfs its seems to me only fair that death rockets and earthshakers get stomps (being as they have a stats much lke an orger where are hc has stats of a gaint kind of)
