Continuing the proud GuardCon tradition, and taking the place of the original Games Workshop Auckland GT, the Auckland City Guard is proud to bring you GuardCon 2010.

Tournaments included this year:

    * Fields of Blood Fantasy
    * NZ HARDCORE Warmachine/Hordes
    * Lord of the Rings NZ Grand Tournament

The Organiser is Nick Irvine, guardcon@gmail.com

The cost to enter an event is $35 until the 20th of August, then $45 up until the 3rd of September. Late entries after this time at the TOs discretion.

The event will have catering on site, lots of prizes on offer, and a Saturday night poker event. Spectators are welcome.

The player packs can be found here

The official FoB FAQ thread is here

Cheers Nick, pack looks great.

I'd like to grudge Antony Kitson's (borrowed) Wood Elves please. Might pay to start a seperate thread so all the abuse and trash talk is directed appropriately?

Great looking players pack. The peer bonus points system is a particularly nice idea. Well done to all involved!

Looks good nick. Apart from the victory points. 2400+ is way too hard to achieve at 2400 points. With no quarters, banners being worth less, your asking someone to kill everything in the other army (with no half points) whilst losing next to nothing themselves. Quite hard to ahieve under 8th as it is unlikely that you will get through the battle unscathed. Just my 2c after playing a few games.

Also wondering if anyone is offering up accomodation for the weekend?

Thanks, this has also been pointed out by Marcelo on wargamerau. It is likely the VP tables will be revised, if more playtesting continues to confirm that the big wins are too hard to achieve.

Are you travelling by car to Auckland or flying in?

I have a big lounge and many mattresses for crashing on, but no car to transport people to/from venue for the weekend. If I had some transport help I can put up 4 to 6 people at my place.

Nope, as we don't have a license for it. But if you can find someone with the right certificates, and pay the license fee... sure... but then we will have to check everyone who is attending to make sure they are over age, or have a parental accompanying them...

He's a lurker who hasn't got enough strength of character to make constructive comments at the source.

Maybe he doesn't have a life and we should just feel sorry for him?

His criticism lacks integrity and forethought.

8th edition has only been released for 20 days, what makes this guy such an expert?

Don't know who he is. Looks like he's chosen to overlook a couple of things:

1) there is no composition score as such for this tournament, and
2) these are guidelines, not hard caps (aside from the magic)

Each to their own at the end of the day. I think lots of us are still operating with a 7th edition mindset but I don't see a problem with erring on the side of caution for one event early on in the piece.

Does Call to Arms have any guidelines? If not - excellent! We can see how it works. Is there a veto option in place for CtA?

Fields of Blood has guidelines? Excellent! We can see how it works.

I can tell you right now that FluffyCon 2011 will definitely have hard caps but that's maybe due to the unique nature of the event (everyone should be aiming for "extremely soft" and getting into the spirit of the tournament) more than a multitude of immediate issues with 8th edition.

it will be intersting to see whats a fluffy list and whats a hard list now that there has been a top to bottom change to much about how things work

Guardcon Comp gets international exposure
While it's unfortunate that it's negative feedback, it is only on the internet, and the majority of feedback I have received in person and via email is positive.
I thank Reid for his comments, I think they sum up our point of view nicely.
Time will tell what it takes to make 8th Edition a good tournament system, and I am looking forward to contributing to that knowledge by trying something out. It takes more courage than manicpsychotic has to actually put your ideas out there in practice.

The guy who posted the Guardcon comp system on warhammer.org. uk was one of the Wellington (non-Warlord) locals.

He attended Runefang, Horned Rat, Skitterleap and Vermintide last year. At each he took Daemons and scored lowest comp (all Panel-based). When Warpfire (UK Masters system), Runefang (DogCon) and Horned Rat (ETC) were run this year he chose not to attend.

You can read more of his problems with comp here
