Cheers guys. We all had a great weekend but 16 games in 4 days has left me utterly shattered (well drinking till 4am didn't help either i guess Tongue)

My results for the weekend:

12-8 win over French Wood Elves, thanks to the 16 wide Plaguebearer wall stopping him from shooting anything Cheesy (Yes, I felt very dirty...). He actually only killed 66 points of Horrors in the whole game, while I picked off enough units with magic to get the win.

11-9 win over Evan Ferris's Daemons from Aus. My cunning plan (well I tell myself this anyway) of losing the entire unit of Plaguebearers + Herald in one turn to his Thirster, let me kill his Thirster with mine and then got enough other units (thanks mostly to dual Gifts of Chaos, best spell EVER!!!) to get the small win.

0-20 smashing to the Canadian Lizards. I deployed like an idiot which let his Stegs and Temple guard get to me around a forest untouched with my Horrors in no place to even cast spells until it was way too late...So stupid.... Luckily it didn't matter as we got the 100 anyway.

9-11 loss to Scottish Dark Elves. This was my most enjoyable game, helped immesureably by 5 shots of fine Scottish Whiskey and the fact that Jeff's 300 themed DEs were fraking gorgeous!!. I was playing well trading small units but then the Thirster failed to overrun 10" off the table and lost half wounds to damn Rending Stars.. which dragged it back to a 151 VP point loss Tongue One VP into the bracket... still happy considering I usually get smashed by Dark Elves

9-11 loss to Finish Lizzies. Worst game of my entire life!!! He just sat in a corner and cast comet and conflag at anything he could see, then ran out and contested table quarters. I hid  in the other corner and the game was over in about 45 minutes... Hooray for draw hammer  Roll Eyes Meh, we beat them in the end, thanks to Harry being so awesome he smashed a Siren Song Thirster list Cheesy and Dave walking over some Beasts.

10 all draw vs Greek Skaven. I had ridiculous luck and he didn't. Bell took 3 wounds from Flickering Fire in turn one and the Doom Wheel decided that instead of frying my Thirster it would Misfire charge it instead. But on the last turn the 13th spell irresistably deleted my Plaguebearers unit and he passed a LD 7 test on the remainder of his Grey Seer unit with all his characters turning a big win into a draw... FAIL!!!

Pretty happy with my results, bar the one game. Since I had some bad match ups as I was usually being thrown up as a stall.

Will post photos tomorrow. I need sleep!!

Hey guys,

Firstly sorry for not updating my blog during the event, internet access was not as readily available as we were told it would be, but within the next few days I should have full reports from all of my games up. But to summarise:

3-17 vs the French Tomb King player, I took a risk in this game to try and win the round and was 1 Skeleton off killing his big Skellie block and going through into all his Priests... But that's how it is.

12-8 vs Locky, I was very pleased with this result especially since the last time we played I was unlucky to get a draw.

19-1 vs the Canada Wood Elves, I really expected him to just hide but he didn't so I killed all his men.

20-0 vs the Scottish Skaven.

18-2 vs the Finnish 'thrister Daemons. This was probably my best result over the weekend, it was a matchup I was really expected to lose but I had an opportunity to win it so I went for it and it payed off.

7-13 vs the Greek Orcs and Goblins. I am still beating myself up about this game, I made some shocking mistakes which definately cost me the win and with it being the last round it is easy to think if I'd played better we'd be a lot higher up. But only 1 shocker out of 16 games in 4 days I guess I can't complain too much...

The event in itself was absolutley awesome and I will definately try to get back next year, I was very happy with my results (except the last game...), winning the singles event especially was great and very unexpected.

Cheers.

Team New Zealand Represent!

Phil, The games were in general very cagey and defensive (not helped by my army being Uber points denial), unless you're Dave Grant, where its "Straight down the middle" Tongue Wink. Every turn was, "Where can I pick off a few more points to get the win" which was generally almost nowhere, for me at least. I think in 6 games I charged my Thirster 5 times, because I could almost never find a way to get a charge in without getting smashed in return. It was weird playing so cautious the whole weekend, completely different to my usual throw the stuff out there and see how it goes Cheesy

It's not how I'd want to play every game of Warhammer but it was an awesome mental challenge, from trying to plan everything out to the tenth degree. The Perfect farewell to 7th Ed. imo

Anyway, my Photos can be seen at: http://s339.photobucket.com/albums/n448/JamesMilner/ETC%202010/

My highlight though:

Jeffs DE are soo cool. I know that's why you didn't kill too many - it would have been such a shame to take any of those models off.

If your interested....

Singles event was great fun, but 10 games of warhammer, before the main event was not a great idea - although it was fun beating people 20-0 then swapping armies and winning 20-0 again.

My games were generally OK match-ups (advantage of being Captain), but Lizards are (were) 'probably' the best ETC list, which helps.

More often than not Lizards went first in match-ups, cos there are no bad ones.

France: Played Empire (ETC is Alter, Stank, 2 x lvl 2, Knights, Shooting). Slann miscast and killed 11/14 Temple Guard turn 1 whilst stood in front of the War Alter... bugger. Terradons also failed vs 5 free company, meaning I couldn't get to his cannons for a few turns. Then played ace and got a 10-10

Australia: Played Empire (Gav Clark) Trees in the middle helped and Sending Temple Guard, Stegs round different ways meant he had to split the alter Stank. I then nailed him, whilst feeding Skinks to the STANK. Killed pretty much everything except the STANK & Alter (who were ignored) for a 16-4.

Canada: Played ex-Kiwi (from ages ago) Adam Clark. Played him before, great guy. He had 2,600 Ogres, ingluding a 600 pt Rhinox Unit and 5 Maneaters + 4 Heros in another. VERY scary, but Terradons are ace, so he never got to do anything interesting and was tabled by Turn 4.

Scotland: Played another ‘friend’ Tim Gronenberg and his big papa deamons.  Lizards are great vs Papa and a combination of a turn 1 pit killing the Tz BSB (his chariot was fine and was ‘really’ annoying) and a turn 2 irresistable lurker putting the scar vets into the nurglings (6 bases already) meant I was always going to win. No trappings on Papa meant the skinks ensured it was 20-0

Finland: Played a Beast player with LOADS of units (2600 buys a lot of crap, as well as a lot of monsters). Was able to play well causing LOADS of panic tests, drawing out the Gorgon with some outstanding terradons and generally being great. He passed 2 rally tests turn 6 to stop himself being tabled. 20-0.

Greece – WoC with Prince: Was too tired, and played like a retard. Slann miscast for fun, but was VERY disappointed with how I played. I lost due to bad dice, (Steg overrun needed a 6, got 4, Daemon Prince surrounded by skinks who all failed panic/terror and legged it...) but I never needed to be in a situation were I was relying on the dice like I did. Like Harry if I had played it properly the extra points would put us in top 10. That said despite 4 turns of crap play/dice I played insanely well in the last 2 turns to claw it back to a 14-6 loss (it was looking like 20-0 for sure at end of turn 4).

Overall a great weekend.

My blog is now updated with my report from Autumn Incursion last weekend at Maelstrom.

Depressing as it is (Tomb Kings really don't work in 8th...).

Reports from the actual ETC are coming... Honest... (No one remembers how to play that game anyway).

Cheers,
Harry.
