Having not read the new rule book or taken in much about the rumors or facts on the new edition I see the next two 8th ed tournies are both 2400pts.

Is this the new norm up from 2250pts?

Can anyone elborate why 2400pts and not 2500pts or even 3000pts?

Can only speak for Skitterleap.

2400 is easily divisible by 4 (even for Gen Y/Z).

Also forces some tough choices - yes you can take that Dragon but the rider has less accessories.

Army composition is now determined by percentage, not unit count limit.

Heroes and lords 25% max
Core 25% minimum
Special 50% max
Rare 25% max

With a 2400 pt list, that's a max of 600 points you can spend on heroes or Rare
(you can take 8 rare choices of single salamander hunting packs = 600 pts)

It seems the standard OS is 2400.

GW would probably encourage 3000pts, their sales would take a huge leap over the next 6 mths.

We could run with 2000pts, which is also divisible by 4, but then GW doesn't get to sell as many models. From the player perspective, many are used to giving their heroes toys, how many characters on terrorists can you take for 500pts?

Another of the main factors is the speed in which 8th games seem to be played. My first ever game of 8th (i.e. reading the rulebook before every action) only took 3 hours at 2250 points. It's perceived that a 2400 points game of 8th edition should (once the rules are practiced and known) take as long to play as 2250 points in 7th.

Heroes and lords 25% max

That would be 25% for each so 50% can be up on the hero's and lords total.

Sorry, yes you can have 25% in Lords and 25% in heroes.
So its not so much of a limitation as I initially thought.
(now where did I put that Engine of the Gods ...)

okay they all seem to make sense, thanks...

The only on I'm not sure about is the 25% Lords and 25% Heros... WTF!!! 50% of the army on Characters is a bit overkill

8th Ed games go quickly and will get quicker once the rules are sorted out.  Played a 3500pt game last night and it was over in 2 hours as combat just goes BOOM BOOM BOOM
