Cannon ball going through say three ranks.

Q. If the first guy makes his Ward save does the cannon ball strike the guy behind him?

Yes. Bolt thrower damage says "IF the first model hit is slain, the bolt hits the trooper behind" (90). The cannon damage description makes no such destinction and just says "one in every rank it bounces through is hit." (Pg88)

In the 8th edition rules, a particular exception to the 'all models in line with the bouncing cannonball are hit' is when it fails to kill a monstrous creature.  They give this as the only exception, so if you don't kill an infantry model due to its ward save, the guys behind him are also hit.
