So I finally decided to give Maelstrom a try, and I finally convinced the wife to let me. Only to find they do not have half of what I want. Most unimpressed. Hopefully they will answer my query and tell me they can get a Flame Cannon in for me.

Anyone else have issues with them not stocking what you were after?

Yeah, you will find Maelstrom doesn't stock the full model range. This is especially the case with the less common races.

I'll be interested to see what they have to say to your request of a specific model. Usually I buy the bulk stuff from Maelstrom eg; box sets/battleforces etc. and pick up the rest from GW online order from the AUS store. They do free delivery now anyway.

I've made numerous orders from maelstrom, but always for basic stuff and never too many multiples of one thing.  Always works out no problem at all.  But it's not so bad to order direct from gw aus for finnicky things.

IIRC it was about a year or so ago that they stopped keepinng as much "in stock" - and given the number of stock lines who can blame them?

It has however severely affected the speed of their service it seems.  They have also become a little ... slacker on communication in regards to updating one on being able to supply things or not (have an issue myself in that regard presently).

I suspect they've gotten a little "too big" and their popularity is overwhelming what staff resources they have.  Having been a long-time customer it seems the logical explanation to me.

Given the large range of stock-lines though, and the absolute cheapness in comparison to most other places (for us here in Godzone), I will be persisting with them.

Kinda thinking it a little strange that they don't yet have pre-orders up for the new WFB 8th Ed Rulebook though...  Thats where I intend to be buying mine.  2/3 of NZ Retail anyone?

I find i am really happy with them, shipping is good speed compared to what i have encounterd with like forgeworld. Yes stock is limated on some items but they do order it in and ship out in good time. But the key with them is buying bulk if you just want an odd model just by from GW or Vaga.

Might add some perspective to let you know that Maelstrom now employs about 20 people.

These days they are very much 'a Company' with all the good and bad that goes along, rather than a couple of blokes and a garage.

As someone said, they do have a lot of stock lines, and often don't have everything in stock (esp if its the 'minor' bits).... but neither do GW.... make of that what you will.

Maelstrom now have the new 8th Ed Rulebook up for pre-orders.

Even if I have to wait a week or two longer for it ...  for around NZ$77 (inc 15% voucher code for 8th Ed just sent out to those on email list)  I'd say its worth the wait.

What was NZ retail?  NZ$140?

Price comparisons like that are why I will continue to put up with some time delays on orders.

What's this 15% discount?

I have not received an email.
The last discount I received was SUMMERTIME for 15% but that closed on 13 June.

Could someone email me with the code please (if it works like that)

Thanks

For those that asked:

Quote
Hi there,

Our Summertime voucher ran out before we had details of the new eighth edition of Warhammer, so here at Maelstrom Games (www.maelstromg ames.co.uk) we thought we'd make good on our promise of saving a few quid on the superb new edition of the world's most popular fantasy battle wargame!

YOUR EIGHTH EDITION VOUCHER
----------------------------------------------------------
Your 15% off UK RRP discount voucher ends on Monday the 21st of June 2010 at midnight (GMT), almost a week to grab yourself anything from the Warhammer stable - including that new edition and the new Template Set, Counter Set and Battle Magic Deck!
It will only work on Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Citadel Hobby items, so please don't expect it to work on anything else! It will not work on Games Workshop Direct items, either.
Apart from the above, the voucher will work on pre-orders and, crucially, you'll still earn Moneyback - although tiered discounts are disabled when using a voucher of course.

Your voucher code is: WARHAMMER-EIGHT

To use this voucher simply register on the webstore, www.maelstromg ames.co.uk (if you haven't already), copy and paste the code into the appropriate field in your basket when you have selected the items you want, press 'REDEEM', and the webstore will do the rest. You are not limited to one purchase and, indeed, we would ask you to recommend us to your friends with this voucher!

Remember though that this voucher is intended for the webstore only - it does not apply to any of our auctions or shop inventory items on eBay.

Happy Ordering!

I'm gonna get most of my stuff from Vagabonds in town. They support us in tournaments and also give us City Guard members discount (15%). They are bound to have a special on the book when it comes out. Remember our local stockists of the hobby guys. I don't mind paying just a little bit more to get it with out the waiting for mail order  Smiley

You know me mate. I've always been big on buying my stuff locally and up until now I always have. However, changes in circumstances mean I currently do not have that luxury.

And that's the crux..... what are your priorities (speed, supporting local business, price???) That will/should decide where you spend your cash.

FWIW when I was in NZ I got most GW stuff from St Lukes - just co it was 'easy' for me. Only excption was when I bought an entire army, and got that off Maelstrom.

I buy from GW Sylvia Park when I need something "urgently".  Although since I started using Vallejo paints that has become a less regular occurence.

Still get Chaos Black spray there though...  1 - Haven't found any other undercoat spray that does the job as well for me; and 2 - Its not an easy thing to have shipped.

Well hands down i dont support the local GW stores. I never never go there only in extremes when vagabonds in taka and town are out of something i need. But i am just not that impatient anymore and this does not happen. I just wait for wayde to order it in.

There is only a few key things as both GW and Vaga are 40mins away from my home.

1. If i cant get in overseas or cant wait (normally all my paints and brushes and sprays)
2. The customer service is GW is crap no other way in saying i have said it before and will say it again. (GW staff are just as annoying ad the GW price rises every 6 months)
3. And 3 its nice to talk to someone who knows you even if you have not been into the shop for a month and not talk to you like a 10y/o that just started playing warhammer.

Thanks to Regan and Wayde they have made me bring what little buying i have in NZ to Vagabonds and not to else where.

I'm waiting on some stuff from Mael. In the past they have been very quick, but this time around the package is looking like its going to take the full 28 days mail time! (Been 3.5 weeks now)

Oh well, getting things half price (thanks to the bonus cashback thing they gave a while back) makes the wait worth it (esp since I only just finished uni for the semester, so could be worse).

I ordered a few things late last month, the 27th and they have turned up this friday, well at least I think they have, one box showed up, need to ask neighbours tomorrow if they had a second box stuffed in their letterbox as we are a A and B mailbox type situation. Just got back from weekend away, figures it shows up the one morning I'm not at home Cheesy
