heres the players pack for any that are interested.

CAN-OPENER WARHAMMER 40,000 PLAYER’S PACK 2010

Welcome and thank-you for showing an interest in Cityguard’s Charity tournament: Can-Opener 2010!  This information pack will hopefully explain everything you need to know in order to prepare for and play this year’s tournament. If you have any general questions about the event please contact the 40K Tournament Organizer (TO) Tristan Sample: custombike@woosh.co.nz

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WILL WORK

Entry Fee is $5 and Three Cans of food. No late entry penalty, pay on the day is fine. Just let me know if you plan on playing as soon as possible so I have an idea of numbers. (You can turn up, enter, pay and play on the day as long as there is room, tables and opponents to play) but please let me know in advance if you can.

At Can-Opener 2010 you will play 4 missions over the course of one day of gaming. Each game will be against a different opponent. Games will be played on a 4’ x 4’ table with an appropriate amount of terrain.

You will need to bring:
At least 3 cans of food
Your Army
Your army list
Your relevant army Codex
A tape measure
Dice and templates as appropriate
A pen or pencil

THE AIM OF CAN-OPENER 2010

This tournament has been devised so that a group of like-minded gamers can meet in a competitive but friendly environment and play some interesting games of 40k. The primary goal of the tournament however, is to raise funds and canned food for the Auckland City Mission winter appeal. Each player MUST bring at least 3 cans of food. The Cityguard will donate this to the Auckland City Mission on your behalf at the conclusion of the event. However, the cans also have an in-game effect! Each can allows you to reroll a single dice once (but not a dice that has already been re-rolled). Once you have used your can you must surrender it to the TO. This may be a D6 reroll or a scatter dice reroll. Any dice can be rerolled (this means by way of examples: leadership checks – pass or fail (both dice); sweeping advance; psychic tests (both dice); reserve rolls; to hit and to wound rolls; scatter (all three dice); ordnance and vehicle penetration rolls; damage rolls vs vehicles) ALL ROLLS! But remember you can’t re-roll a re-roll.  You may bring as many cans as you wish to the event but you must bring a minimum of three. At the conclusion of the tournament any unused cans can be relinquished to the TO. Cans used in games do count towards your 3 can minimum.

The primary gaming purpose is to have fun and help someone less fortunate! This is not a serious tournament event and should not be entered into as such (winning is winning so bragging rights do apply). The missions have been created and used with fun, wackiness and ease of play in mind.

Play to win, but play nice and with good humour.

ARMY RESTRICTIONS

When writing your list for Can Opener 2010 you will need to bear the following restrictions in mind:

No more than 1200 points may be spent on the army.
All armies must comply with the Force Organisation chart and have a minimum of 1 HQ choice and 2 Troops choices. Only one detachment may be fielded (no allies).
No Special or Named Characters
Armies can only be chosen from the latest version of their Codex from the following list:

Eldar, Dark Eldar, Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Black Templars, Space Wolves, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard, Witch Hunters, Daemon Hunters, Daemons, Necrons, Tau Empire.

Your army list is judged to be legal unless challenged by another player, it will be checked and ruled on there and then, T.O. ruling Final. Latest FAQs will be supplied if needed. Cheese is welcomed but cheating is not so keep it honest please.

SCHEDULE

08:00 – 08:45   Registration
09:00 – 10:30   Round One
10:45 – 12:15   Round Two
12:15 – 12:45   Lunch
12:45 – 14:15   Round Three
14:30 – 16:00   Round Four
16:00 – 16:30   Cleanup
16:45      Awards Presentation

The time limit for each round is 1 and a half hours.

MISSIONS

You will notice (if you haven’t already) that there are no missions included in this Player Pack. Bwahahahaha…

The mission for each round will be announced before the round draw. Each table will have a copy of the current round mission available for player perusal. Three of the four missions in Can Opener 2010 will use Objectives and one will be kill points.

WINNING THE TOURNAMENT

While it’s clear that this tournament has honourable and charitable aims, we still need to determine an overall winner. After each game you will need to work and record the result. In addition to this you will need to give you opponent a Sportsmanship rating.

This tournament has a weighting of 80% battle points and 20% sportsmanship. In each game you will have the opportunity to get up to 15 battle points 5 Bonus Points and 5 sportsmanship points.

There is no scoring for composition and no scoring for painting. You may play with unpainted miniatures (although your luck may not be as good).

While there is no scoring for composition be warned...
Who Cares! Go Cheese! try and win by annihilation, its still fun. But remember this is a charity event so play nice and smile as you destroy your opponent.

Loss          5 Points

I'm on the fence with this one as I should play WFB. Will let you know though. It's great that you're organising a 40K event. Have you let the guys at GW and Vaga's know so they can advertise for you as well?

At the moment im in Tris! woooooooooo! unless their is a heroclix event on i will be bringing my chaos out to play. or maybe my black templars, or maybe my fallen angels .... arg! too many choices!

hmmmm. 2 daemonprinces with mark of slaanesh and lash, 3 obliterators, 2 defilers, two 5 man csm squads in rhinos... rest in disposable lesser daemons.... looks good to me.

Hi, any reason why Tyranids and Sisters of Battle are not in the list of allowed armies?

ATTENTION NID PLAYERS!

any army with a codex (latest versions only) can enter can opener, nids, sisters anyone. me missing them out in the players pack is a memory error... something peope who know me will agree happens all to often.

funny thing is: When i first got the 2008 players pack and updated it there was no chaos space marines, demons on the list and obviousy nids too. go back and have a look in the old threads.. its there.
