same :s

sometimes all the crap i have waiting to be done looks way too daunting.  thankfully my nids look like they have an end point in sight.  weird considering i bought a whole bunch more models, but i'm chugging my way through some of the dust-gatherers on my desk fast enough.

these marines will be a chore, but there's enough fun stuff in this army in terms of conversions and units i haven't tried doing before i'm quite looking forward to them.

then when its all done, i might see about doing other people's armies :s Shamar's salamanders will be a nice little project and a friend's imperial guard would be a choice experiment in painting an army entirely with washes.

i think i have myself booked out for the next year or two Sad

I'm going to force myself to do most of my Salamanders as I would really like to improve my painting skills, and I've read up on the techniques enough that it's just down to practice now.

I will let you know if I crumble and need some help, the problem will be any you do will look a mile better than my own Tongue

Are you coming to battlecry if so what army are you taking because this is really nice stuff. Did you wet blend the armour and how did you do the bone?

probably will go to battlecry, why stop a good thing? Smiley

it'd be nice to take this army, but as its a mate's he might be keen to play it himself, so i'll probably just stick with the trusty ol' nids.

my first attempts at painting the blue was with wet blending, but i found i could achieve the same result faster by feathering with one colour.  the bone is pretty basic - bleached bone, devlan mud, then bleached bone again, highlighting with skull white and another wash of gryphonne sepia

that hella flattering Laz, but your blood angels are looking pretty dope.

it'd be great to get a bunch of these guys ready for battle cry, but it'll be down to the wire if i decide to run with them. we'll see i guess, i doubt my mate will end up wanting to enter, and i'd prefer to use my nids anyways (the less power armour armies on the day, the better i reckon)

a much belated update;

i've actually had these guys finished for a while, but just didn't bother to take photos till today.

so then, the last 4 members of our vanguard squad;

Relic Blade fella

Plebb

Fisto

Grr

and a group shot all together.

currently working on a few nids to round off my tournament army, but then it'll be onto finishing the drop pod, starting on a pair of landspeeders, pulling together a second tactical squad, and finishing this guy up:

a very WIP Jason, chapter master of the Argonauts

The war grit, filth and weathering really lends realism to the models.

They make your standard, clean cut, polished space marine look cartoonish in comparison.

jason's done

and i reckon he looks like the boss alright

a couple more angles

and i'll do some WIP shots

drop pods man, they're great models, but egads, what a pain

this shows what i'm up to with the exterior, but the interior needs a bunch of work and this angle doesn't show the back which needs a tonne of highlight, heh.

i've gotten around to assembling the next tactical squad too

thought it'd be good to show some before-and-after shots

Jason looks like the Boss!

Going to add any damage to the black fin parts of the drop pod? It's looking damned great, but I appreciate how much time that particular model can consume, I think it has nearly double the painting surface area of a land raider :S

those black parts already have boltgun metal painted onto them, you just can't really see anything reflected on that photo i suppose (my screen is super bright so i have no problems)

i'm dreading having to paint all the chevrons on the door-rims D:
