Painting ork clans

So I got the very basic paint set when I started and bought a few useful skintones for orks but now I'm getting started on the hard out painting I want to do clans, without having to buy too much extra paint what is the best red for blood axes and their vehicles and what is the best yellow to get for bad moons, I only have the red that comes in the basic set which I can't remember what it's called and the poo mustard yellow dark sun I think it's called, great for ground not for fashion conscious orks.
Also not being terribly excited by the basic brown for straps and stuff (yeah I know it looks cooler in the photos because they highlight em properly but their shade looks better too, been muching around with mixing the brown with different shades to get a better colour.
Cheers for any tips regarding painting orks skin tones etc. I had a lesson with Sam at Sylvia park and turned out a half decent finished ork although Sam had to fix the face somewhat.

Hey Flutterfly,
7pm is fine if you still want a game Thurs? How many orks do you need to borrow? Sunday is open at the club too and will introduce you to some of the painters to get your started. Sorry haven't replied sooner but weekend was hectic. Text me about the games.
My 2 cents on the painting thing. Gradual layers from darker colours with lighter mixed skull white with original colours work pretty well. I'm lazy so I just go and buy all the different pots of different colours. I'll show you the P3 paints that are pretty cool to use too. I've been told getting a colour wheel/chart is helpfull too but don't ask me how.

hello mr Butterfly....s
ounds like you have the foundation paint set.
which is a very rich/thick set of colours but also muted darker tones.
by rich i mean it dosn't need lots of coats of paint, it applies to the mini really well hence why its called foundation paint, as in it goes on as the first layer.
You will need to get a next colour up to get some sort of difference or highlight.
it sounds like you are just getting started in the relm of painting. best advice i can give you on painting orks, is use the washes from GW the brown can turn your straps and bags interesting, the black can make your guns dirty and the orange ( with a dash of brown ) can turn any any armour or vehicle rusty.
Second peice of advice is to go to the GW site, look up ork army, and how to paint orks. They do step by step layering and label the colours they use them. its a great way to start and get your confidence up,and don't worry if it don't look like pro paint job at first. These things take time.
hope this was some help

If it's a thousand poit game then you'd need to lend me a ton of orks. Perhaps it would be better if I did schoolwork on thursday night and joined you at the club on sunday? and asked here if there are a few other people who wouldn"t mind small point games. Just have no times to make up orks n trukks by then.
