So I finally got to learn how to make an army list at GWS Sylvia Park last weekend following being able to play (with alot of help) one of the new battle missions with all the shop's best ork toys And because I'm hoping to get cool things for my birthday like Kommandoz annd Stormboyz we have worked out I might end up with only 1 mob of actual boyz so I oughta make 'em 'Ard as nails. so what can I do to the models to make them look like hard boys, so far only painted one properly the rest are only undercoated and will be that way probably until the end of semester.

Take a shot of the one you've already done and then we'll be able to give you some constructive feedback Smiley

are you actually going to try making a mob of orkz look like Ard Boyz?  the guys with extra armour?

if so i'm reminded of a few models where the black ork kit from the fantasy line was used, seeing they have full plate on.  even though the armour does look more fantasy-ish, mixed with the 40k ork kit it doesn't look out of place either.

but then if you're writing up a list i'd hazard people would reccomend you not worry about spending the points to give a mob a 4+ save.  probably better to just add more orkz to the mob

Yes I am trying to make my normal boyz look like 'ard boyz, I'll take a photo in the weekend of the results of my ork painting lesson. Well not sure how things will go with my army yet but we kinda worked it out on a dream team army kinda thing with killa kans and deff dredd and special troops I wanted, I really like the idea of kommandoz.

i'm thinking about the same thing at the moment,as i now have two ork boy mobs nearly finished, and my third i would like to be ard boyz and look different from the previous mobs.

Using the black ork kit from fantasy is an option, but an exspensive one as you will maybe get 12 boys out of two kits (i have looked at both kits and tried to figure out what can go where)
i'm thinking of going down this route, even though black ork mini's are taller than 40k boys. But also bolster out the mob to at least twenty with normal boys (or nobz?) and try and paint the mob slightly differently.

As my army colour's are red and black (very original i know) i'm going to paint them mainly black with red warpaint etc, where the rest of my mobs have been mainly red with black warpaint.
so at least i can say on the tabletop" thouse fellows there painted black are ARD BOYZ " and then there can be no probs for you or your opponent.

Actually was thinking of popping into the bead shop to see if there was anything that could either double as armour or as some kind if trophy (teeny little skulls etc) that I could somehow glue onto them somewhere to differentiate them from normal boyz.

i use black orcs as nobs as the sizes are closer than to normal boys.
my fav is the one with the drum!

the way GW said to make boys into ard boys is by doing the following.
this was shown to me when the first ork plastics came out years ago!

build all you guys up so they are a torso and legs, split them into two groups, guys with chestplates and armour across there back (the ard boys)and the other guys (ork boys). next you glue on your arms as you see fit (shoota boys or slugga choppa) then you use the shoulder pads and the helmeted heads for the ard boys and the normal head for the normal boys. normal ork boys 6+ save (flimsy clothing and maybe a chest plate), vs ard boys 4+ save (chest plate, helmet, back plate and shoulder pads.etc)
space marine shoulder guards make excellent knee pads! of course painted in your regular opponets colours!
this is all you need to do, no colour changes really required as the ard boys will obviously have 'eavy Armour. thay are after all exactly the same orks just with better gear.

" hey you! thats my helmet"
"is not!"
Thwaaaaaak!!!
"is mine now!"

I'm going to use normal boys and either sculpt or glue extra armour on. Have considered using the WFB Marauder shoulder pads, IG pads, and SM pads. They'll look uniform as I'll be using all the helmeted heads as the ard boyz.
Plus I was thinking of just not taking ard boys and going with a another unit  of nobs : ) I have shite load of boyz so maybe scrap that and just have a horde 'o' boyz!

Didn't even remember thay had those extra bits. good tips about mixing and matching bodies and heads too although I've already stuck mine together. Will see how I go once I get a bunch of stuff off Wouster and see how generous my friends are for my birthday.  Smiley I need a truckload more time too, damned genetics and chemistry.
