Over the weekend WARPFIRE the first NZ tournament of the year was run in Wellington. Although it competed with an AC/DC concert it attracted 26 people. Especially pleasing was that there were players from all parts of the country.

The comp system used was lifted from the UK Masters - a series of hard caps with VP bands based on three tiers. The hardest tier required victory by 500 points, the second by 300 and the weakest by only 100.

Gameplay made up 60% of the overall with Sports and Presentation splitting the remaining 40%.

Here are the results:

Thanks to everyone who traveled to the event and also to Jack who TO'd his first event.

Regards

Pete

Another reason why comp is a good reason, Less likelyhood of a draw
Comp being an additional tiebreaker,  and a score to throw into the mix.

Congrats on your skaven army doing so well once again.
and to Joe with his WoC army

I enjoyed the hard caps but they made magic very ineffective in my opinion. Most armies stopped mos spells.

I think the armies were much more similar in power level than you would generally see at a tournament. It was also generally agreed that the Dark Elf army there was by far the hardest - 68 shots per turn plus most of the usual tricks.

I certainly look at using them again though we would probably split the VP bands into single point increments rather than the 2 point increments they were. This would give more differentiatio n in scores.

Joe and I had same scores across the board and drew 10-10. I gave him the 1st Place trophy and took the Tyrant award Wink
