Yeah, suppose I should actually 'read' the codex before I come up with any other ideas.

as for your question Laz, i haven't seen anything in there yet, that stops you putting 6 termies into the stormraven

homing beacons and scouts will solve that.

Yeah that is true, makes for a pretty expensive combination after all those factors are in place, I think the high cost balances out how it can be used. Glad no assaults can be made either. Opens it up for high strength fire opportunity. It will however be allowed to fire a weapon or two via the machine spirit which could be nasty Smiley

But if you use a storm raven what is better than a land raider they can deepstrike in and assault out of it.

That sounds like a better option, a deep striking Land Raider almost seems like a gimmick if that's the right word Cheesy

I'm mostly worried about those troop cutting dreadnoughts, It's soo damned easy for a regular dread to get AT LEAST one unsaved wound on a SM squad, quite some potential there.

yeah there doesn't seem to be anything so far that i can think of cursorily that will stop a stormraven from allowing its payload to assault after deep striking.  i'm pretty certain you can't disembark after a vehicle goes flatout, but that isn't deepstriking.

though the deepstriking rules do state that a unit arriving like this is totally disallowed from assaulting.  so far all transports that DS carry a small paragraph disallowing disembarking troops from assaulting, but the stormraven so far doesn't have this

i'm pretty sure some where in the codex stated you cannot assault out from a deep striking storm raven. can't remember which page.

would would rather have a full sanguinary guard army Speed power and toughness better than dreads. And they can score as they are troops with Dante And then run a few priests in there to give them feal no pain. Owch that would hurt.

Good idea but boring same with the dreads

I bought the 'dex yesterday. Looks really fun and really not that op.

I'd suggest that everyone reads  it and plays against BA a few times before screaming that the sky is falling. Smiley. Or not..Scream away if it floats your boat. Smiley

@ daemion: That all dread/DC list comes in at over 2500pts (without any upgrades).

So, not an option for normal games, eh?

The army aint broken, man. At least, no more so than any other army.

ie x3 Monolith armies, Flying Harlequin Circus, x20 Nob Bikerz with Painboy and Nob (therefore troops), IG (enough said), x2 Lash Prince x9 Oblit, x30 PMs, Thunderwolf Cavalry, JOTWW, 'nid monstrous creatures that crap out 'gants AND are scoring etc, etc...

The point is that EVERY army has its broken units. The other point is that VERY few people actually take those units (costing issues - money AND points and that most people  aint a$$&oles who'd actually like to play more that once before people tell them to shove off). Relax, dudes.

Oh, and the Librarian power that those dreads have access to is Str8 Ap1, not Str10.  Wink

As a hobbyist I think the new additions are awesome. The hero-type figures are really well done, and the plastic sets come with copious amounts of extras for fleshing out other squads in BA Iconography. I picked up the Sanguinor, Sanguinary Guard, plus another Assault squad and Dante. The extra bits in the Guard box will go on the Assault squad and I'll turn them into an Honor guard for Dante. I still want to get a Death Company set...

I also picked up the codex, because I like a bit of Fluff, and putting together basic lists (With my limited experience), also shows the army to be quite well themed, but still allows you to do what you want if you have a specific play style. Yes, some of the units are excellent and seems way to strong, but they cost A LOT, and the extras just add to the cost.

While I admit I don't have as much experience as you guys, I think there is the potential for a lot of fun to be had with them... Now I imagine the next release will be Dark Angels...

if only....

they'll have to hang till the end of the design cycle, black templars and inquisitional forces take presidence and that's ignoring that necrons, dark eldar and tau are champing at the bit.  and really, eldar should get a look in, though they're list is still pretty damned powerful considering all the codexes that have come out after it

i think marines will be put to the side for a while now, i would say they all have a new book in the lest 2-3 years. remmber BA and SW where 2nd ed codexs still untill 2010. What mean it could be another 5-10 years untill they get done again and i think the first will always be the stock space marine codex.

The only thing Dark Angels/Black Templars need is a one line Errata.

"Where wargear/vehicles listed in the DA/BT codex and C:SM vary, use the rules and points values from C:SM."

Done, problem solved.

so after reading the codex , who out there is going to start  a blood angels army, there is enough in there to make playing them very different from your average SM army

I'm very tempted......i love  the idea of a big group of death gaurd, with chaplins urging them on

Me; my chapter is very easy to convert to Blood Angels. Plus I was sold to the Blood Angels when I purchased Space Hulk...
