How strict is WYSIWYG usually?

For example could a Vampire with a Claw and a Sheild be armed with a Sword of Battle and no Sheild?

Or could two claws be counted for the +1 Attack for SoB?

Not that strict, you can get away with that kind of thing without any eyebrows lifted.

Most of the time, sometimes it is nice to have the actual model, I'm horrible with WYSIWYG, Flail character has a halberd???

That is a really good question Chris.
I think it is a matter of courtesy rather than a rule that is to be rigidly adhered to.

yeh. 4 sure. as long as your opoonent knows exactly what your figs are armed with BEFORE u start playing, who gives a toss?
... we all like to try new combos and cant be arsed ripping weapons off so go for it.

However you get huge credit for style if you can pull off as much true representation as possible.  My tomb prince has flames all over his chariot to represent the magic upgrade I almost always take for him... but then I give him a flail instead of a great weapon while the model has a great weapon.  go figure.

All sounds fair there.

Went with the no sheild in the end.

VC's are almost coming to completion, just need to find some more character parts, finalise the character build and source a couple of boxes more ghouls and I'll be onto the next project, definitely something more adaptable and less boring than vamps this time.

yeh... i have 1 im doing at the moment with my arbites. in necromunda i can give one a heavy stubber but in 40k i cant. however i still use the heavy stubber model in 40k and count it as a melta gun cause it has 'improved ammo and built in suspensors which improves its Armour penetrating performance yet lowers its rate of fire....'

and as long as my opponent knows, its all good..... now where did i put that 2nd heavy stubber.......

I really prefer if characters are armed with something representative . For example I would be annoyed if a model with a great weapon actually had a flail, or vice versa. I hate forgetting things like that in the heat of a game, and making poor decisions because of it.
Wait, he has a 1+ save? Hows that? Oh, the enchanted shield......

On the other hand, a big hand weapon is fine as a counts as great weapon, or vice versa.
