Nice to see Equinox got your blood lust up In answer to your question - no, I don't think there is one. Or at least... maybe Battlecry next February? Due to an over-reliance on Wayde and a general antipathy amongst Auckland 40k players, no one sticks their hand up to run a big (2-day) event.

we're antipathetic? i always thought it was a result of all the main 40k events being held out of Auckland till the end of the year. the only thing that may come up is Daemian's qseudo-tournie that'll be held at the same time as guardcon and i reckon that's just meant to be a bit of fun. if there any obvious holes in terms of no clashes with other events and people are interested, i'd happily put my hand up if the time is right and you all don't mind that i'm a relative outsider i think i'd do a decent job immitating Wayde at waving a stick around and threatening the players

I wouldn't say the Auckland 40k community is antipathetic, more so just apathetic. There's a big difference. No more Auckland events until Battlecry seems crazy... but its the community that has to front up and run one if they want that to change I would happily come up to support the Auckland 40k scene if someone were to look at running one.

personally I would love to see at least 3 "2-days 40k tournaments" per year in auckland.
give those ppl who are unable to go wellington a chance to go on the 40k ranking.

This sort of positive discussion is well and good... right up to the point where someone has to stick their hand up and commit to running an event. Then it tends to get awfully quiet.
A Tin Soldier-esque 40k event would be a good start - find a cheap and decent venue, borrow tabletops and terrain from the club and go for it.

While it is not a two day tourney; Vagabonds in the city are hosting a month long round robin tourney during April.

Your attitude total SUCKS! With out people traveling to events how do you expect them to grow? And by putting on events that clash with other events running the same systems your going to kill your player base.

good on welly for running all the 40k events. hell, its the only place that does them regularly. once again just pointing out your average auckland based 40k'er cant be bothered going south of the bombays to play....

Maybe but there are a few who make the effort to travel like the fosters and David L. Also the gamers above Auckland and Hamilton who would have to pick one event over the other and that don't make sense.

you say there are a few..... and thats it. there are only a few who regularly travel.... i wish there was more. ... i really do, and i wish i was one of them. shit i never used to miss a torney before i had my kids i regularly got down to hamdog and even got my lazy arse down to welly once. then the junior fun police came on the scene and now i dont travel.... canrt even play aucks ones.... but it doesnt change the fact that yes, there are a select few who always do travel to play.... but not as many as used to.... btw, wat event are we talking bout here anyway?

absolutely nothing 'o' bartosh of da north... if u can do it, do itl;. all i said was your average aucklander cant be arsed travelling out of aucks to start. then i get jumped on for telling the truth. oh well, im off to whangamata this weekend with my wife and kids and some family friends... 10 years ago at easter i wud be playing games at the nats. this year im hanging with the family and i actually am looking forward to it. oh, wat bout the gamers north and south of aucks? they aint aucklanders. of course they will travel. get a grip guys! i simply stated that aucklanders dont travel(as a generalisation ...)

I travel, i just have limits. Usually brought on by cost and/or hassle. I will go the Whangarei, I will go to Hamilton/Tauranga. I won't go to Wellington though, mainly due to cost. Like many of us, I am no longer single with a pile of disposable income. Unfortunately, this means I can't just jump on my bike and ride to Taupo for a burger (or Welly for a tourny) like I once used to. If this makes me a "lazy-arse" Aucklander, so be it. Unfortunately, we all have to grow up sometime.

i'm trying a new approach with the misses, i start talking about this great mini or this great battle report. she generally comes out with the statement "thats nice dear" and then goes "i think i'll go read my book" so i hope that when i do get up to torny standard and i say " i'm going to welly this weekend to blast a hole in the empire with my great kill kannon" her reply will be " thats nice dear, i think i might go read my book " so she won't want to come and try and drag me off to some shocking shopping mall
