Few weeks ago, I bought some “cursed company” models from bring and buy.
In case you don’t know what they are, “The Cursed company” is a undead Regiment of Renown, a Dogs of war unit leads by Richter Kreugar the Damned. Interested in their background, I searched for information related to them and a short story was enough to inspire my imagination.

Summary
The Cursed Company”
“Richter Kreugar was a young mercenary captain who was willing to hire out his service freely as long as the price was right. The tragic tale of “The cursed Company” began century ago when Richter allied with a powerful Necromancer against the Empire. However the Empire fought hard and pushed back the Necromancer. Seeing the Necromancer faltering, Richter accepted the bribes from the Empire and stroke down the Necromancer. Before his dying breath, the unholy sorcerer gasped a curse on Richter and turned him into a walking nightmare.
And so it is that Richter stalks the Old World and beyond, countless times he has been cut down, but only to awake again the following night. A terrible element of the curse is evoked each time Richter or one of his companies slay an enemy; the lifeless victim is instantly enslaved to the will of Richter, rising to accompany him in his eternal curse.
He travels the world, fighting wherever he finds battle, as his Cursed Company increases in size each day.”

I read this few pages reference related to this Regiment of Renown and their terrible, eternal curse. This gave me the inspiration to create a Cursed Company army leads by Richter Kreugar himself and created opportunity to allow me to make a new undead army like nothing before.

With theme and background decided it was time to get down to business. I decided to use tomb king rules to represent this army as I found it suits better than Vampire count. There are a few reasons behind this; firstly VC is one of the “big 3” which lots of ppl avoid like plague if they want good composition. Secondly, TK has undead cavalries, archers and chariots which fit nicely into my background of my army, representing foe slain by Richter, then rises to accompany him in his eternal curse.

In order to decide what to have in my army list, I went through the Tomb king army book and think about what sort of conversion I can do.

Tomb king = Richter Kreugar (of course)
Tomb Prince = undead Chaos champion
Liche Priest = Necromancer

Archers = mixture of undead, high elves archers, glade guards, Bretonnia peasant bowmen, orc archers, empire archers .. etc.

Chariots = undead high elves chariots, chaos chariots, wolf chariots, dark elf chariots .. etc.
Light horsemen = undead mounted marauders, glade riders, yeomen, reavers.. etc
Heavy horsemen = silver helm, empire knights… etc

Tomb guards = THE cursed company, undead lizardmen, dwarf, empire swordmen, men at arms, highelves spearmen, chaos warriors… etc...

Carrions = same models

Screaming skull catapult = trebuchet, orc stone thrower with undead crews

Bone giant = undead giant/ zombie giant

Tomb scorpion = don’t know yet
Tomb swarm = don’t know yet

This army allows lots of room for conversion, imagination, and crazy ideas. Basically there are no limits to what I can do. Each model will look unique and special but still looked cohesive and retained its individuality.

This is what I can come up with so far, comments / suggestions welcome.

Tomb scorpion = don’t know yet

Undead Hell Pit Abomination.  It tunnels, and it's fashionable... Wink

I like the overall concept.  Crusty Hoskins from the original GW store in the city took a DoW army consisting of the biggest mix of shop-painted models he could get his hands on to a tournament once.  It looked great.  Doing the same thing with 'undeadified models' and a consistent paint/basing scheme would be awesome.  Plus much opportunity for the modelling equivalent of warhammer puns for the real geeks out there to recognise.

I remember that army  *rofl*

Simon, potential is there using a lot of non-gw figure range as well, which can help in $ terms.  Methinks some of the mantic games undead could look well in this - have you seen those?

i'm ok in tern of $$, I have almost every single fantasy armies, i'm sure I have enough bits and pieces to begin without needing to buy too many extra models.
