Sorry this seems the best place to post this as the events thread has this on the 19th&20ths, vs your players pack that says 20th and 21st.
I am assuming the players pack has the correct dates.
thanks.

Reminder

Lists due 29 January, 5pm

I am expecting at least a quarter to be vetoed...

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, if your list is waaay softer than what you usually *face* in terms of overall army hardness for a normal tournament - you are on the right track. Minimum comp of 24/60 is not going to get you on the podium one suspects...

So far I have had two teams submitted.

Registrations at 21

Nick,
Can people submit army lists early, so that they can be checked early, allowing time for resubmission without incurring penalty?

Hi Ant

Part of the judging process is to look at the field *as a whole*

What might seem marginal in isolation may suffer by comparison to truck-loads of mega-fluff. Part of my self-appointed role is to save fluff-bunnies from getting rogered because of soft choices :-)
This is after all one of their few opportunities to safely compete in the tournament scene...

I have deliberately not pre-approved suggested lists or commented much on any of them. Accordingly early lists used as a rangefinding exercise are unlikely to be judged before the bulk of lists come in - which was on the due date last year...

To be blunt, I expect the "hardest" lists this year to be softer than the "hardest" lists from last year  :-)

I didn't read anything related to penalty on vetoed listS in the player pack

"If a list is awarded a VETO by one or more judges the player will be given any feedback from the judges about it and given one opportunity to submit a revised list with a potential penalty of up to 15 points at the TO’s discretion. New players are more likely to avoid this penalty than those who should know better and “try it on”. You know I love you really :-)"

Are you expecting your army to be kiboshed Master G? All those cheeesssey pistollars Wink
Well I think my Elves will sneak in the restrictions with all those terror causing spearmen and way too broken silverhelms. Who said that the art of stealth cheese is lost. Bring out your guns fellow gamers cos my regen Eagles of doom are gonna rule the roost! Wonder if Hippos will be Vetoed... Goes off and paints his Brets Wink

Serious note: Thanks Nick for the heads up and really can't wait for my 1st tournament of the year (sry Philthy).

Wow, does that mean that you feel the players pack didn't adequately express what is expected at the tournament, or do you just expect people to ignore the warnings and push the boundaries? It makes me nervous having submitted a wyvern list, despite it being softer than my idea of a 'normal tournament list' if there is such a thing.

Maybe you're just referring to all the cheesy monkeys that are taking Demons and Dark Elves!

err... no

It is simply that if Nick expects a 25% reject rate then it pays to have some facility for people to get a bit of confidence that their army is OK. Last year it was easy, build a soft version of your army. This year it is build a soft army, and that is more tricky.

(sry Philthy).

Absolutely appalling!  Are gurdges allowed at Fluffycon?  If so then I slap thee several times with my gloved hand, calling thee a slacker and challenging you to a Fluffycon grudge match!

Hey Ryan,
Just because it is Fluffycon doesn't mean it should be chumpcon. How do you fancy a first round game?

Gauntlet thrown...

In answer to your question Josh, I think less people this year have demonstrated that they have "got with the programme" than last year. I get the feeling that for a lot of people their aim is to pitch a list at "as hard as I can get away with". That is skating on thin ice I reckon :-)

I hope to be wrong :-)

I have had a couple of lists so atypical that you would *never* see them normally at a tournament. That at least is encouraging.

Grudges are allowed if a suitably credible matchup.

cheers

I've recently been hearing some people's thoughts on how to overcome the whole phenomenon of players walking as close as possible to the edge - something which is pretty much going to happen whenever you have a players pack that is much like a prison with no security and instead a sign saying "don't escape - if you do anyway and get caught there will be consequences".

- Offer no prizes for podium winners or best general etc, and do not allow the tournament to count towards rankings i.e an opportunity to make it into the masters

- Remove battle scores, so that there is really no temptation on players to bring a hard list, the tournament will then be friendly in spirit and there is at least a little competition to see who can design the silliest list, paint it the best, and make the most friends

- Release a sample army list for every race, as the maximum hardness for races submitted of that variety - this really takes the fight to the real offenders on their own turf, because these are the people (myself included, naturally) whose game it is to aim for a percieved level of hardness like it was a dartboard.  Might be a way to compress the playing field enough to eliminate the gap between the rich and poor in terms of tough toys and combos.

A few interesting ideas there, who is to say they would work?  Maybe next year though.
