Not really about to start collecting a new 40k army but it's on the long term option board mainly because i've been enjoying work on my woc fantasy army and i've got a buttload of spare bits to use for conversions on a similar 40k project.  I don't really play regular 40k so my understanding of what makes competitive play tick is pretty limited at this stage.  My main impression is that a good emphasis on close combat, anti-vehicle and objective control seems to be key.  I'm also big on armies that have some strong sort of theme behind them visually and on the battlefield.

Experienced 40k dudes feel free to let me know how this sort of setup would fare;

90 - Chaos Lord
10 - Mark of Khorne
20 - Jump Pack
30 - Pair of Lightning claws   - 150

90 - Chaos Lord
10 - Mark of Khorne
30 - Terminator Armour
10 - Power fist         - 140

120 - 4x Chaos Terminators
30  - Mark of Khorne
15  - Chainfist

100 - 5x Raptors
15  - Aspiring Champ
25  - Power Fist      - 140

150 - 10x Chaos Space Marines
15  - Aspiring Champion
25  - Power Fist
35  - Rhino         - 225

150 - 10x Chaos Space Marines
15  - Aspiring Champion
25  - Power Fist
35  - Rhino         - 225

210 - 10x Berzerkers
15  - Skull Champion
25  - Power Fist
35  - Rhino         - 285

220 - Chaos Land Raider
20  - Daemonic Possession

150 - Defiler

125 - Chaos Vindicator

[1845]

The two khorne characters are quite fun but obviously aren't as effective as lash princes - but they theme a lot better and I like the painting opportunities.  Can't get over the forge world khorne terminator lord miniature.  The standard jump pack lord model also appeals.  Also, the raptors might not be optimum but I like the jump pack lord and giving him a supporting squad seems appropriate.  List lacks special/heavy weapons on the csm squads but i'm not sure I need them if their main role is to grab objectives and assist in close combat?  What would be the first stuff to cut from the list if I need weapons for them?

I'm convinced that the land raider and defiler need to be there in a list like this, but the vindicator is one of those things that appeared last.  Also considered a laser pred.  Vindicator seems to work out lower pointswise and the army is generally going to be trying to get into close range regardless, so it will be a pretty aggressive deployment most of the time.  Also, it probably has a bit of an overlap role between antivehicle and anti heavy infantry?

whelp i guess i can jump in first to tick off a standard response you'd generally get - the chaos lord with term armour may prefer to roll with a power weapon/lightning claw instead.  maybe shift the power fist on to one of the regular termies, or save the points and give your CSMs a special weapon or two, ideally melta maybe

i'm guessing the armament is based on that FW model, so i understand if you don't want to go down this path. i could suggest that his pf can be converted into a lighting claw with little effort, but again - who's really that keen to convert FW stuff?

solo vindicators i've found have more bark than bite - but i'm sure that's something you'd work to your advantage. mine has always been a priority target, and yet has done little when its managed to pull a shot off.  still, they're fun tanks

what might appeal though would be to maybe drop a powerfist from someone and trade the vindi in for another defiler? battle cannon will do almost as much on infantry, from turn one, and you get this scary fleeting spider tank running at you ignoring stunned and shaken results.

can't comment much on option of the pred except to say it seems a little out of theme for a khorne army

I'm not experienced in list building by any stretch, but I just have to say I like the idea of a lord with jet-pack roaming with the raptors. That unit will have some bite.

I'll be interested to see what you can do with a 40K army with your current painting skills and some WoC conversions, sounds cool.
