from Dosadi:

"Not to drop a bomb or anything, but yes, 8th edition will be out next summer with a new boxed set in the fall. I’ve heard Empire vs. Orks in the box with a new O&G book out in Q1 2010. Plastic Empire Knights and Orc Boar boys will be in the new set I’ve heard. They keep one-upping themselves with the box sets so I would expect a mountain of amazing plastics in the new starter set. "

this guy is pretty accurate so i think this is 90% believable

There's been pictures of the new boar boys floating around for a while and the empire vs orcs I think was a given. However, I doubt the timetable, but we'll see!

A new edition can only improve the general game system but as we all know it is the army books which seem to need the most work.  At best, we could see some clever way of mitigating the power of some of the existing books.  I think in the current scene large monsters, heavy shooting and some kinds of magic builds are the toughest things to deal with.  Perhaps 8th will have some minor but global changes to the way that large target monsters work, or changes to the power dice or miscast table system or whatever.

Not necessarily. In many ways they bugger'd up 40K with the new edition... Change isn't always for the better.

But you are right, Luke, they have to do something about some of the magic combos. Roll Eyes

Hey Lezle I agree with you on the 40k front.  On the warhammer fantasy side of things though they have really made some good progress over the years on the core system in my opinion.  so maybe we're both right Smiley

40k definitely took a kick to the nuts when it changed from 2nd to 3rd but i'd argue its slowly getting better. but more as result of the new codexes than the core gaming system.  i was really hoping they'd introduce a shift in the system's paradigm with 5th, but instead it just became 40k v3.2
